This SUPER easy DIY desk build was completed with just 5 2x2 boards and a half sheet of plywood.
And the dimensions make it super easy to configure into desk pods perfect for families who are homeschooling or just have multiple kids that share a workspace.
You can even assemble two of these together to make a super easy L shaped desk for cheap!
All you need is a drill, circ saw, miter saw, and a pocket hole jig. Oh, and did I mention there's enough leftover plywood to make an easy book stand, too? Don't worry, I'm sharing all the details in the link above and the video here.
Check out how I make my own 2x2s here:
    www.woodshopdi...
And how I cut down my plywood sheets here:

I just built this for my daughter last weekend. I appreciate the video and your website with plans/cut-list. A few notes for those who are looking to build it: 1. be cognizant of which side you prefer the shelves -- this plan has them on the left but I prefer right side so I flipped the legs, 2. I personally feel like the desk frame is a bit flimsy without the top and shelves in place--it's hard to get good rigidity with just one pocket screw and glue per joint, 3. I personally had an issue the top middle joint with 3 pocket screws all going into a similar location; two of my screws hit and I had to rotate one of the rungs to get them to fit, 4. this is a TALL desk! After putting it together you're looking at 31.75"--I didn't realize this but after making it and putting it in my daughter's room she needed a counter height chair to feel comfortable on it. I measured two of my standard desks at home and they both are around 29". I'm thinking of cutting the legs to make it shorter! Overall I'm happy with the desk and my daughter loves it--I hope she can use it for years to come!

Excellent design Shara! A simple solution to todays new reality of learning at home. If you’re like me, I’ll look forward to seeing your shop skills and thirst for knowing all things woodworking continue to grow. A couple things you may want to look into are plate joiners also know as biscuit joiner (affordable), Rockler beadlock (affordable) and Festool domino (expensive). Also some simple easy joinery like half laps and bridal joints.

I have been having trouble making my mind up on what kind of desk I want. I'm new at building (again), but not totally inexperienced. I just can't decide. Tonight I started looking for the final design. It's time for me to build! LOL.
I found the perfect design, two videos ago, and again in the last video, and again, here.
I don't like the 2x4 route and considered 1x4. However, I think I like your 2x2 design. I've split my share of 2x4s so that doesn't scare me at all.
I happen to like the X farmhouse style, so I will consider it in my build. My desk will be 42 x 24 with the left 16 inches for cat shelves for my assistants.
I am also hoping to replace all the furniture in this "office", a spare room in the house, with the same style as the desk. We'll see how that works out.
    Thank you for sharing.

Nice project. We all need a desk at home these days. One quick suggestion, before cutting dimensional lumber with a saw, checks the ends of the boards to be sure there isn’t a staple in there. Oftentimes staples are used to help hold stickers on them, and sometimes the stickers come off anyway, or a staple will be below the sticker so always check closely to avoid ruining your saw blades.

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks...I always examine all edges of my board for staples/nails/cracks before running them through the saw.

Very nice! Just as a safety rule; wait your miter saw to fully stop before lifting up. It might throw little pieces if it is still spinning.

Great simple project. I am new to your channel and found you when searching for something else but stayed to watch this video because my son, who is doing online school asked me for a desk. I think this one will work great. I see the link above to the blog post but I was wondering if there are printable plans somewhere so I don't have to take my laptop into my shop.

Thank you so much!! I’m sorry I don’t have a printable copy of this project, but you could pull it up on your phone vs laptop for this or sketch it out on a notepad since it’s a pretty simple project.

I'm new in this diy world. Thanks for the plan. I'm trying to make a computer desk. I think I would improvise your design to make the top with 47" length. But I wonder whether 2"x2" leg still suitable / sturdy for a computer desk 🤔
