- After five long years of using a cardboard desktop, I finally built the wall mounted desk 2.0...out of walnut.

Looks awesome! PS - I think generally you're supposed to pull card scrapers, rather than push them - this will make it much more comfortable for your hand. I'm no expert, but I know it'll leave your wood smooth and hard, just like your mom.
Ahhhhaha this guy! I’ll try to pull next time I had 3 band aids per hand it was just silly
"You never planned on building this anyway." I feel personally called out, because i definitely was thinking i don't have all the necessary tools.
sad but true
Yeah that cracked me up.
What a massive improvement. I saw the first video of five years ago and saw so many flaws and then saw this and man, you have improved so so much as a woodworker. Well done. This is a beautiful, beautiful build.
I am loving this deluge "WINK WINK" of videos rick! BEST, MOST ENTERTAINING woodworking channel on the youtubes!
Appreciate it paladin! Just hitting publish in 2021 no matter what
@9:20 😂 a little Tyler Durden esque trolling... Well played sir!👏🏼
By far, the most entertaining and witty video I have watched about building a table top like this ... so impressed you worked Missy Elliott into your tutorial! Awesome! And the table looks great!
Alright bro. You didn't have to do me with the "you never planned to do it yourself" line😢😢😢😢
That desk is absolutely stunning.
Thank you for your video. It really helps me with the understanding of built-it furniture for my architecture course!
Awesome stuff, really love your entertaining style and the things you built and continue to make!
thanks herky!
This is the most fun DIY video I've ever seen. Got a good chuckle out of me this morning. ☺️
appreciate that leah glad you liked it!
Liked and subscribed. I built your first DIY build as my first computer desk and it's awesome. I agree with the cardboard nature of Ikea desk too. Thank your making the videos, they helped me learn a lot!
That's awesome Adam! Desks are the best things to build since we get so much daily use out of them.
I almost bought a desk with legs, but I am glad I found your channel. Great work and explanation.
Oh that is so awesome!
Me who made the family dining table watching this, thinking yep mostly the same process and now looking at wood 😂 damn I was only planning a "quick and dirty" solution to needing more workspace for my stopmotion.
Beautiful desk and great video
Rick took some time off and came back with a BANGER! Nice man.
Thanks Terrence! more on the way!
That came out awesome!
Beautiful job man.
Dude, way to step up your game and desk. It's absolutely beautiful. Love your work!
Beautiful job .
The wood joke just added you a new subscriber 🙌🏿🤣
Looks so good 💪🏻
Duuuuude thats awesome, thanks for sharing!
Bro we have the same humor or something cause I was cracking up the whole time. Well done! 🤣💯
Thank you for complimenting my mother ;) she is watching this video with me
That is a damn fine desk. It needs to be complimented by a nice monitor and keyboard ;)
Very nice work!
Thank you!
Great build
Absolutely EPIC Diy video my friend. I enjoyed it tremendously. :) Excellent craftsmanship btw!
thanks nathan! working on the craftmanship as I go along but it's a fun road
Nice craftsmanship
Thanks for this video. Also for making it fun. You're one of the best fixers I've seen on TH-cam
Watching this from my wall mounted desk 1.0
yaaaaasss!
I just love everything about this video ❤️❤️❤️i wish i had the same tools as you have…
Good job on your comic relief! 🙂
Simple and beauty.
Hahaaa, dissing a cardboard table top, and desperately finding studs because the drywall won't hold your desk. I understand the economic efficiency of stick frame building, but as a European living in a concrete and brick house, it will always seem a bit vulnerable. But that's a very nicely built and good looking wall mounted table, with a lot of love in the project.
Subbed for the mom jokes
Only problem with this video @diywithrick is that there isn't a 10 minute montage of you applying that stain... great project! I built the model 1.0 4.5 years ago, as an L-shaped desk and it's still working great. Hope to make this one someday!
lol I used super light speed fast forward on that clearcoat clip! L shaped-very cool! I think you'd be very pleased with some WALNUT!!
This is amazing, both in quality and humor. Thank you, you've made me laugh while getting Missy Elliot-ed. 😄
who would've thought you'd get missy elliot-ed...on a WEDNESDAY?! 2021, man...
@@DIYwithRick Yup, gonna be another doozie, I can tell. 😄
We finished the video: we cried together when we saw the "SUBSCRIBE" message at the end. Thank you a lot for everything.
my wife will never come there and its quiet - golden words!
Looking great, now I just need 20k in machinery to make this simple, cheap DIY project.
Great outcome with the walnut. Much better than cardboard for sure. Certainly looks better under that cool movie poster. So, do I think Josey Wales would like it? I reckon so...Lol🤠 I sure do! Very nice work. Troy
I RECKON SO!! Thanks for watching!
Ok but I actually DO plan to build these brackets, lol. More research required. Great build! I’m looking to do the perimeter (3 walls) of a small bedroom to turn into an office/school spot for my son and I.
Funny stuff. And you're right, I'm never going to build it anyway. LOL
see!
I think you hold the cardscraper like a burrito and drag it across instead oft pushing it. Will also be much easier on your hands.
My wimpy hands thank you Lukas. 🙏
Well done sir.
Nice tools.
BEAUTIFUL! Thanks :)
Great Video :)
Best DIY video ever
Thanks Alessandro!!
Great work, I love the concept. How much weight would those wall brackets hold?
I like the color of the wall 🤙😎
Working on a wall mounted desk now (first time making any kind of wall mounted furniture) and this was very helpful! Any chance you have a copy of the specs/blueprint around?
Yes, very amusing and very informative. As for the scraper, just blow that $1,000 you'd put aside for a dirty weekend away with the missus and buy a Veritas Scraper Holder. Six (6) inches should do the trick, and because I'm an Australian, I'll leave the obvious joke well alone. So, I'm late to the party by about 2 years? Well, I'm an Australian. Cheers mate from Sydney - Dave
Never in a million years would I have thought that I would come here and get Missy Elliotted..
Thank you Dad ❤️
Wow! Not only is it beautiful but it's also nice & sturdy, just like your mom.
Here’s a fun tip, if you don’t have the right tools “let’s be honest, you weren’t going to build this anyways” hahahahah I have never laughed so hard at a DIY video. Lol fucking epic. Keep em coming man. Love that you’re back :)
thanks tyson appreciate it man! really fun new vid dropping soon...!
Wow! Make me one please! and so many funny jokes!
I love walnut
Nice!
Your mom will never come down there either...Desk looks great! Mom jokes never get old in my opinion haha
Haha! Never!!
Amazing video - quick question, can you tell me where you got your bar clamps from? Can't find anything that large at a budge.
Could this project be added to your website with the cut list, purchase list, tool list, etc. with instructions like you did your first wall mounted desk?
loved the handcrafted video! keep up the good work like this! more more more (and no more mom joke )
I dig the color of that wall! Is that black or a dark navy?
Is the desk platform not attached to the supports?
Also, can you lean on this?
Hey man! Looks amazing. Don’t suppose you know what colour your wall is behind your setup? I NEED it 😅
Love the look of it! I just did a similar design, but used plywood and edge banding like a cheap bastard
The ending zoom into the monitor was so dramatic, haha
As for the card scraper: I'm pretty sure your supposed to push, but with it on the long edge and mostly vertical. I imagine sharpening will help greatly as well. Katz-moses had a really nice video on scrapers sharpening recently, you could check that out!
I was going for that dramatic ending feel. Thanks for the scraper tips my hands appreciate you!
@@DIYwithRick I wish my missus talked to me like that.
The mother jokes are A1!
1 subscription for honesty
Paint your white baseboard. Will look 100 times better!
bro has a tool for everything 😂can't hate lol don't hate the player hate the game as they say lol
Nice corner pinning on the phone in the intro. What do you use for editing video? I’m learning Davinci Resolve now.
Thanks a little sloppy but I got lazy with a few of the custom masks/key frames. I used premiere pro mask tracking.
it's so beautiful 🤩 like your mother
Is the Domino a replacement for the Biscuiter or do they compliment each other in some way?
I got an idea. I will be making those angles. And use a two links scissor mechanism to attach it to the table top. That way I will have two height adjustments.
im still rockin version 1 over here lol
How do you fix the top cover to the walnut support?
Endeavor to persevere.
I hit subscribe at 1:07. Right after the “your mother” crack. 🤣 Correction, after the first “your mother” crack. 🤣
Six years ago i tried to make a wall mounted desk. I couldn't get it to be perpendicular to the wall. It bent down.
Now, after 6 year i got tired of pencils rolling of the table, I put a single support in the middle of the desk. It works like a charm
yeah that's tough. glad you sorted it out though!
Word to your mother. Whether pushing or pulling with a card scraper it is supposed to be nearly perpendicular to the workpiece. They get ground flat and burnished so a burr forms and bends over making a “hook”. It looked like you were pushing it like a chisel which definitely makes for uncomfortable hands. Check out the wood whisperer’s video on card scrapers. th-cam.com/video/4SG2LUdk-VE/w-d-xo.html
great tips, thanks for these...I'M GOING TO USE THEM!
“45 Special” has been upgraded!
sure has!
It's the josey wales. Who might you be granny?
Card scrapers are supposed to be held vertical. Perpendicular to your work surface, Its not a razer blade scraper.
What size bolt did you use?
Current my desk is your 1.0 😄
Does the desk wobble at all
Mom jokes are a lost art.
Miss Eliotted BWAAAAAAA
7:05 so true lol
How heavy is the desk? e.g. how much weight is the wall supporting?
It's heavy. Not sure EXACTLY how heavy though. Hard to guess. The plywood spacers added a lot to the total weight.
How much did it cost u ?
Love how you are wearing a respirator with the garage doors open and vacuum on the saw all while cutting WOOD!!!!!! What a tool🤣😂😂👍
i'm wearing a respirator while responding to this comment, too!
Your mom likes this video!
😂
can you please share the dimensions of the table
what trade is that
Can you please share dimensions of all
So the surface is not secured to the bracket?
Yes I must have sped it up too much. It’s attached to the bracket when I climb under the desk at the end of the vid.
@@DIYwithRick Oh now that you mention it, for a split second I can see you using some tool.
Also as you said I am not likely to make something so intricate, if I do I will make the bracket and a surface attached to it without the biscuit or domino joints.
Also would love to see how you managed the cables.
Music at roughly 10:45. What is the name of that one? I love the sound. Oh and the desk! Great work!
