    Why don't people add "Fuel Stabil" by Golden Eagle for short term or long term storage?
    Another simple trick is to find a local boat dealer! Why! They sell outboard engines and many of the fishing boats and pontoons have fuel tanks built in. What people don't know is that each engine comes in a create with a fuel tank, hose, squeeze bulb and engine fitting. The parts dept have these stacked to the ceiling and can't get rid of them. These tanks are given away, thrown in the trash or sold for pennes on the dollar. They all come in odd numbers like 3 gallons, 6 gallons and such. Remove the hose end fitting, install a cheap peacock, and mark one for oil mix or 2 stroke, and the larger one for straight gas. Use gravity to unroll the hose, place in the weed eater or chainsaw and open the valve. If the tank is high and the tool is low, a siphon will allow you to accurately fill the tank without spillage. Do not let the little hydrocarbons escape an run free into the 10k atmosphere as it creates photo smog. Stuff you can see! Otherwise, I don't care but some people from the Sierra Club may faint! Remember,
    Don't let the cows fart,
    Don't let June bugs make ducks dart,
    Never let frogs create art,
    And don't pass gas near uncle Art. He smokes a pipe, it may lite!

    Sir. I normally don’t leave comments, but I just had to let you know how much I thought of your video. TIP TOP my good man! Awesome! I’m having trouble with my old 5hp Briggs and Stratton. It’s I bought an aftermarket carburetor and I’m having issues with it. After I squirt a tiny bit of gas in the carburetor it cranks, but I have to keep my hand over the intake where the air filter fits down over it.. It has a pretty good suction on my hand abs when I take my hand off the intake to quickly put the air filter on my engine dies. I’m assuming the carburetor is getting to much air. Ive checked the diagram and about everything you can check. I don’t like the seal of the gasket that goes in between the carburetor and the tank. I think it’s leaking and possibly pulling air also. That might be why I have to squirt a tiny bit of gas in the carburetor to get the engine started. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated sir. Thank you.

    • @baldeagle242
      @baldeagle242  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds like you are on the right track. From what you’re saying it has to be sucking air somewhere or possible the fuel tube is sucking air. Either way I’d pull it apart and look closely at it. Good luck with it and let me know what you find.

    Just today tried to get my 5hp Troybuilt tiller carb running better, with same carb. It was constantly flooding but still runs slowly. Air filter no issue as it runs same with filter off. I did the same breakdown and cleaning but when put back together, stills runs the same. Odd that it runs better about 60 seconds before it runs out of gas. ANY SUGGESTIONS? I didn't have a rebuild kit so didn't replace any gaskets. Only other thing I wonder about is; I think it was running good this summer before I changed oil. Maybe I overfilled oil. I will try tomorrow to take out a few ounces so it won't run out fill cap and see if that is the problem. Maybe it is burning extra oil instead of gas, but wouldn't that make it smoke?

    Very nice video and great to hear that engine running so smoothly, too bad about the muffler. Only concern i have is the compressor tank condition on the inside due to age. Basically a ticking time bomb when pressurised if the wall thickness has deteriorated due to rusting inside. We routinely drain any water from ours every 2 or 3 days in the warmer months due to high humidity and once per week during the winter months since the shop is heated.

    • @baldeagle242
      @baldeagle242  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for the feedback, Wayne. I have the same concern about the tank. There's no way to tell how much it's deteriorated on the inside. Even testing it for the video, I was reluctant to let it pump much past 70psi. I haven't tried to adjust it yet but ill probably set it up to top off around 50 or 60 psi. That's more than I'll need to blow up a mower or utility trailer tire.

Apparently the fuel is leaking back into the tank depriving the engine of fuel. I tried to seal it with jb weld,but it didnt help. No one makes a fuel tank for it anymore,so options are limited. I've got a new predator engine in a box that my son in law had given me. I'll probably see if I can switch it out. It's a rear tine tillsmith tiller that's built like a tank. It's hard to handle because it's got no reverse and only one speed,but itll dig up a garden,lol.

    How much compression for a similar 1978 B&S engine (080202-0855) should be?
    You said that yours started at zero (0) compression and I believe, after repair, you brought it to 60?

    • @baldeagle242
      @baldeagle242  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Anything over 90psi is good. Most engines will still run at 60 but may be challenging to start and down on power. I don't recall checking this one after I cleaned up the valve, but my guess is it was closer to 90.
      Even though this was an older engine it showed limited usage over the years.

    Good day. Awesome video. Doing a go kart project with my boy. We seem to be missing the part that is at the back of the carb. I believe you called it a carb pump. What does that do exactly. This is a go kart I used to drive as a kid 25 years ago lol. We used to just plug that hole with a rag to get it started when the engine was cold. If you could let me know what that part is exactly it would be much appreciated. I can’t seem to find anything online about it.

    • @darcylegal3930
      @darcylegal3930 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe you are 100% correct about that. Not sure how the whole assembly looks and works as none of it is existant on this old beast haha. But makes sense as plugging that whole with a rag to choke it used to get it going. With that piece not being there I would assume that would wreak havoc on the whole air/fuel mixture screw setting. Used to reach around and turn that screw in and out while I was driving it as a kid. Was like redneck horsepower tuning. Hahaha.

    What is that tube that goes from the side of the choke to the block for, and does it matter if the boots are loose? I got a free generator with the same engine and carb, but the throttle is different and so far I cleaned the points and got spark, I got it to run off of carb cleaner for a few seconds but then it just dies. I've been all over TH-cam and this is the best video I have found showing how this carb works. I think before I go further I wanna get a lamp and make sure the generator part still works. Anyways thanks to anyone for some advice!

      That tube is for crank case blow by. If it’s loose you can take a small plastic tie wrap and put it around the boot to tighten it up.

    • @baldeagle242
      @baldeagle242  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t see to many of these old Briggs engines anymore. This was a 3.5hp. Most of the ones I’ve had were 5hp and had a similar version to what’s on this one. If the tank is mounted below the carb it will have to have some type of pump to pull fuel up into the carb.

    • @GertTown
      @GertTown ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Baldeagle242 after looking at it, I think the 2 hp has the small flat tank so the pickup just goes right in the tank and it doesn't need a pump to bring fuel up. It looks like the same exact carb with just the short pickup and no diaphragm pump.
