It's very interesting that you said the price . With inflation , 10430 GBP in 1996 = 24093 GBP in 2023 . when grey market dealers say buying a Rolex is an investment it's a lie. You buy a watch if you like it and you want to wear it period.
Totally agree, last 3 years have been a bizarre climate for all watches. Things will revert to how they used to be when watches like this could be attained for a discount
@@Watcheswornwell yeh my only gripe is that the president bracelet is either slightly too tight or slightly too loose. Looking into getting a 1.25 link if I can source one. I’ll no doubt switch to leather at some point as well.
I'm thinking of purchasing a white gold 18239 in the future. Any thoughts on white gold vs yellow gold? Absolutely stunning watch btw and hope you wear it in good health!
Thank you. I love white gold, its a real flex 'to those that know!' Especially because the day date is only available on precious metal Regarding value, I think its less mainstream of course, but still super desirable so wouldn't have thought there'd be much added risk
Not solid gold im afraid. They are semi solid until the 00's the 118238 was the first solid link DD. I have a 18238 with diamond indices and the 6 figure watch is 70grm heavier. Also, there are 2 variations of box the standard wine coloured leather box with cedar wood partition for paperwork and the presentation one you have with yours. Also, the book only came with the presentation box.
Thank you for an interesting video - what is the actual diameter? Is it 36? I have seen some saying 33 but that may have been heavily overpolished. Best regards from Norway
In 2023, this reference looks and wears just like something you inherited/borrowed from a rich grandpa .. The newest 128238 reference look so much fresh even if it's almost the same watch .. But there's just something different ..
Thanks for your comment! What do you see as the visual differences? I think the differences are small: beefier bracelet, better clasp, wider case shoulders... the newer model has solid end links so is heavier. But I'm not sure the modern one is worth the cost premium
Actually all those differences combined are what makes it so different and contemporary. Sure, it's not worth paying double the price for a 2020 DD36, however it's just sad how these watches do not hold value compared to steel references. For example Pepsi reference from 40 years ago now costs same or more than the full gold Daydate from the same period. @@Watcheswornwell
When I was 8, my dream was to be a president to change the world. Today, I made a decision rather to buy the vintage watch :) Feeling like being a president. Yeah, I have to sell my CIVIC and Harley and...mmmm

maybe more than 20 years ago I travelled to China, I bought a set of Rolex for $25 for my daughter gift... beautiful, impressive.. but I told my young daughter never to use, otherwise might get robbed or killed....hehe
I love that it truly is a full set and was your fathers. Treasure it.
So kind, thank you!

It is a truly beautiful watch. I have one from 1979 and, although I have a lot of watches, I consider this the “perfect” watch.
It is an icon!
As a skateboarder I remember that Nixon watch, it was actually pretty cool. Beautiful rolex you have there
Perfect Watch and Perfect Size, I wouldn't do a Dial change, but your watch your choice, it's my Goal to get 1 eventually ❤
Received one of these today. Pics and videos just can’t do it justice can they. Blown away by it
Great to hear it. I'm tempted to try mine on a leather strap, changes the look completely

The ultimate watch. I have the same with diamond markers ❤
Great review. I just recently bought one as well. I ended up getting a vintage 26mm and it’s a beauty. Really enjoy the look and feel of the watch.
Very nice! Smaller watches are going to make a big comeback in 2024, Mark my words!!
@@Watcheswornwell I agree. I’ve never been a fan of women wearing oversized watches.

Can't go wrong with the "Tony Soprano"
Proper watch!
Truly one of the best watches ever made but good lord it’s expensive
It really is! There is a decent amount of gold there though!
Exactly the same watch... as Tony Soprano
Channeling my inner gangster
Aye Tone, hehe

This one is a 36mm
Definitely getting one, might have to go to the US to get a good example 👍🏽
Ma786sai Dua mine is a 18 carat yellow solid-gold Cosmograph Daytona Ref 116528 with the black diamond dot dial. A treasure forever
What a watch!!
Ive always wanted the day date, had a datejust first then got the gmt master 2 and now cant go back to a 36mm looks so tiny🤷🏻♂️
I think the trend will move back towards smaller watches but let's see!

I hope that's true!
I get alot of attention wearing presidential day date, champagne dail. Alot of sneaky stirres 😊

@@Watcheswornwell to be fair the watch it self is just hard to miss lol very noticeable!
