Wow. Yesterday I literally considered messaging you Bruce for an update on this beauty! You answered my questions. I love this watch and your perspective. It's my grail and I've looked at other brands closely as well. But the President speaks to me as few others. When I started my career in the 1980s, top executives treated themselves to the Day-Date. I honestly thought it was douchy but years and maturity have clearly altered my view. Luxury, if one is fortunate and so choses, is a delightful treat and regardless of reason, is a personal choice that I respect. For me, I rarely wear my Rolex DJs exposed. My two-tone is a personal satisfaction experience and I love to take a peek under the long sleeves. That's just me - so should I be fortunate to find the perfect 118238, (my price comfort range), I believe I would not expose it. I do laugh though at your qualifier one year later; "almost" a one-watch guy. Ha. You "were" a one-watch fella when your classy DD first appeared! Congrats and thanks for the great segment! I agree with the one negative point. The baggage that comes from wearing a gold Rolex. Living in California, I'm very, very careful when and where I wear it. It sucks because, like you, I would wear it much more often, but that's not the world we live in.
Wine country California or Skid Row? California is a LARGE state with lots of very... rich places. Seems a bit daft to generalize the entire state like that lol
@planecrashcorner7283 I generalize because not only do I live in a major city in California, but I travel up and down the state for work. In many of the major cities, SF, LA, Sacramento, San Diego..etc., I am very careful. Even the smaller cities I've been, Lodi, Bakersfield, Stockton, I'm still very careful. You even have to be careful with rich areas. People get robbed walked down Rodeo dr in LA... so even rich areas are targeted.
I'm in the LA area and I feel you. 100% tissot prx 18k fluted gold bezel for most days little more under the radar but to those who know it still stands firm.
Bruce, I’ll be honest I’ve always liked your content but one thing I’d shake my head about sometimes, is how you’d buy dozens of pieces that you said you loved and would keep forever, and then sell 6 months later. The fact you’re not doing that anymore, and that you’ve truly altered your collecting philosophy is how I know this piece has powerfully moved you. It’s cool to see. Cheers!
I was in Bermuda last year and we took a private tour of the island. Our guide, a man in his late 60’s, was wearing a yellow gold Daydate 36 black dial that his wife gifted him on his 45th birthday. She is a VP at one of the international insurance companies that make Bermuda home. I mentioned nice watch and he told me he’s worn it everyday and everywhere since receiving it including the UK which he travels to every few years. I told him to be careful next time he goes.
IT'S A TIMELESS CLASSIC. I wear mine all the time and very few people notice it. It's really comfortable and just makes me feel good to know that I have a grail watch on my wrist. I have other rolex and omega and even solid gold patek.... This is my favorite. Enjoy. Thanks for the great review
You’d be surprised. A lot of people assume these are fake gold generic watches or a fake Rolex. Probably would be more likely to get robbed with a submariner
That is a stunning watch. Anyone would wear the day date with pride. The current climate around high end watches and mugging makes me nervous. I have several watches the I absolutely love. The fact that I have become too nervous to wear them in public has diminished the pleasure of ownership. Your day date is a true work of art. I’m glad you have given your watch the wrist time it deserves.
Fair point. To me, it's special occasions or always long sleeves or known environments first. Second, insurance. Traveling, it stays home unless someone is getting married.
I say get the yellow or the rose and wear it at home. People don’t need to know what you have. We don’t need validation. Crooks these days don’t care if it’s SS or platinum. They will try you for it.
It's so not my kind of watch, but I enjoyed your presentation very much. It's great to see an ultimate purchase like this being used as daily wear. What you said about wrist time is true - my Rolex was my main wear until it was knocked off my wrist by a Tudor 4 years ago. Currently my only gold wristwatch is a JLC dress watch, which is where I kinda believe gold best belongs.
My Tudor BB Bronze Boutique Edition is among my favorites. I meticulously keep patina away. It looks like a soft red gold. A beauty and the price point is quite attractive.
Even here in FL, the Day-Date carries business implications. Had a client that wore a Day-Date for some 40 years. During Covid, I needed to raise my prices. He threw an absolute fit. Next time I saw him , he was wearing an 80s TAG. Why? It's hard to pretend you can't afford modest price increases while simultaneously showing everyone how wealthy you are. It also works in the reverse. Harder to justify your pricing to clients when you're flossing wealth in their face. It's a catch-22.
Ehh, I would expect someone who was very good with money to negotiate pretty hard and push back against any price increases - it's just good business sense.
@@LanguagesWithAndrew Yup - the reason he has wealth is because he is upset with paying more. All the brokies I know like to pretend price hikes don't effect them for image and go deeper into debt.
You can avoid that only negative by getting the white gold day date 40, I have mine with the olive green dial that I bought in white gold to tone down the flashiness and it has been a joy to wear basically everywhere, I rarely use the rest of my Rolex heavy collection.
Just got my first watch from my local AD!! Two tone yellow gold DJ 41 with fluted bezel and champagne diamond dial. Couldn’t be happier with it. One day I’ll have the watch you have. That’s the pinnacle of class.

Great assessment. You’re right about the dd vs other brand’s full gold watches. Over the years I’ve slimmed down my collection to almost only Rolex, and that was based on just wrist time. Not because they are Rolex, just because they are my favourites as pieces. The Sub is my daily work wear. GMT Batman for weekends and travel. The Datejust for a suit and/or slimmer cuff. The only other watch I want, despite no bracelet is a JLC Calendar.
A great one year review of a truly iconic watch. Bruce, you got me started on my luxury watch journey and now I want a gold Rolex. Thinking very seriously of picking up a 36 mm Day Date as my exit watch. I want to be an old man with a gold Rolex on his wrist :) Cheers!

Sold my Day-Date after a few months, too uncomfortable, still didnt't fit even with the 1/4 link, too top heavy, bracelet is insanely sensitive, caseback surface on the wrist is too small, so it hurts after some time. Excellent video covering everything we need to know about this watch from the owner experience perspective. I was very lucky to wear your watch recently during a visit and it has an understated elegance to the full gold Rolex experience that is unlike any other gold watch I have ever worn.
Absolute baller watch! Love that you daily it. I've only one watch: yellow gold Daytona on a black leather strap from 2000. Rolex's yellow gold is the new stainless steel 😄
I got a omega speedmaster professional because of the city I live in. I have only ever been approved by other watch guys to compliment me on my watch. Rolex is great but I have had friends have issues wearing their Rolex in major cities.

Simple elegance that's unrivalled in the watch industry but I do have this in 36mm . I find that I don't wear it because I'm afraid of scratching it and the effect it has on others so l just rock my Oyster perpetual green dial on a daily basis . Top tip , the OP is the best all round Rolex to own . Slips under the radar, durable and stunning at the same time .
I think you knew this was going to be the one. You’ve bought and sold many, enjoyed different brands, and now you’re settling down. Congrats. I’m sure you feel great about not having to be in the hunt.
Enjoy your watch. You earned it. Quit caring about the haters. They hate because of envy and jealousy and wouldn’t give you a dime for a watch. Rolex IS a flex watch especially the gold ones. So what. It has a crown on it for a reason at twelve and another one for those who know. Lol. Don’t let haters dictate how you live your life. Beautiful watch by the way. Spend your $$$ how you want. Now go get a Ferrari, a 20,000 sq. ft house on your personal golf course, and a Gulfstream jet! Have to give haters something to hate. It’ll make their day.
Ha ha ha ha. Best comment here. It's so true. My wife and I love wearing our rolex and mine is the ultimate dd president bling with factory diamond bezel and diamond string face.... I found every single friend sent my messages that rolex was crashing in price. Love it because I'll never sell any. And with my gorgeous wife 41 years younger.... Omg... Lol... Been together 8 awesome years and everybody hates it. Too hilarious. We absolutely love every single moment of our lives. Thanks for the awesome comment. 😊😊
I own a two tone date just, but I sold the gold day date I inherited. i felt uncomfortable wearing it for the risk and even more for feeling I didn't deserve it.
i have a couple rolex sport models and i enjoy how easy it is to adjust the clasp to get the perfect fit. How easy is that president bracelet to adjust?
Not that easy, there is no easy link or glide lock so you need to have it adjusted just right from the get go, not to tight just in case your wrist get swollen because you will not be able to make any adjustments
Beautiful President. I have the same 18k Rolex with the black diagonal motif. Despite the weight it’s super comfortable to wear. Although I generally wear mine on special occasions and nice dinner outings. My daily wear is a two-tone GMT Master II (zombie). I also travel for work extensively (pilot) so it’s quite functional.
As I wear my tissot prx blue dial 18k rose fluted gold bezel! While debating a Tudor Royal 41 day date 2 tone gold dial ..... what's your thought on this as a 2 piece collection?
I looked at that one but went with the Gold Submariner. A couple reasons, I like the easy link band, 41MM size, and mostly, luminescent indices, see the time in the dark.
I remember thinking to myself when you got it - here he goes again…another piece that’s going to flame out in 6mos. So happy I was dead wrong. Looks like you found your true love.
4:39 Bruce, is there a reason the crown is unscrewed? Presume it's just because you wanted to set it to an appealing time or had just wound it up. But wanted to check you don't store it unwound and if so, why?
It's sad that so many people live in crappy places where law enforcement will not protect them and they are not allowed to protect themselves. They are like sheep with no shepherd watching the flock.
Most people are wearing this going from their home to their office and back. They will get you are your home if they want it along with the rest of your stuff. LOL
@@venom5809 yup take it from me I had this exact watch (228238 but with silver dial) robbed at gunpoint. I just bought it again for my birthday a year and a half after the robbrey. the watch is more for myself and my accomplishments so I'm much more wary about where I wear it out.
I have the 36mm rose gold day date with gold dial and diamonds. It's gorgeous but I don't wear it as often as I would like. I wish the bracelet had a micro adjustment. It fits fine but I would prefer it a tad looser. If the AD puts the removed link back in then it is far too loose. I can't wear it on a hot day because it feels just a bit too tight. That's my only complaint about this watch.
Beautiful watch. My personal grail watch is the yellow gold Day Date with the green dial. Working hard towards it. I already have a couple of Rolex purchases with the AD, after the next one I plan on quizzing them about the Day Date.
Quick question I recently purchased the exact same watch. Usually I take my submariner on vacation but this time want to take only my day date. Would you swim in the pool with this watch? I know it has water resistance but still wanted your opinion
Well done. That watch can certainly be a one and done piece. I wore various 18 karat yellow gold Rolex watches for 40 years and they hold up great. Remember, there’s nothing special about a stainless steel watch.
Only watch I need is a Day Date 18k yellow gold 40MM with presidential braclet. Trying to find a used one for a decent price from a reliable vendor with box.
Love your yellow gold DD and would love to see yellow gold watches become more mainstream/accepted. As I recall, in the past a gold watch actually was considered a long term life/work/goal fulfillment and was not frowned upon like these days. It is a bit sad that people might refrain from buying and enjoying a gold watch out of fear from being robbed or other peoples negative opinion about the piece and its wearer.
Happy for you Bruce, as it is gorgeous. I dont think i could wear all gold in good conscience, but i do love a great two tone look. Dad has the two tone bluesy sub though he NEVER wears it. I wear an Oris D65 bico, and I enjoy that bit of warm color a two tone brings out. Keep enjoying it Bruce, be safe
Yellow gold, champagne Stick dial. CLASSIC! I love it. My only worry would be the softness of the gold, but hey, maybe I could wear it daily. My own story is I have a Royal Oak 15500 (Blue!) for fancy, and a polar explorer for daily - and OK yes, I have several other watches that I don't wear much. The A.P. is super delicate, but the Day-Date can definitely be that one-watch cross-over. Fancy and reasonably robust. To my eyes, you picked the classic configuration. Mad respect! One caveat: Security could be a big issue, but it depends on your situation - it might not be that big. If someone takes my Polar, it's replaceable. My A.P.'s another matter.
your DD is a beautiful Rolex. - the 2 watch collection - your DD & a black date sub . - the DD is a good piece to wear , with your pocket pistol . ~ JDS/CT.
Hi Bruce, that Rolie looks great on your wrist, perfect size and shape. also the yellow gold really goes with your skin tone and the hairs on your wrist give off a bit of ''maturity'' allowing you to be able to pull it off, not everyone can do it. a yellow gold watch i believe is not an easy watch to wear but you can can pull it off. the Rolex president is a beautiful beautiful thing!

If I’m ever wealthy enough to buy the Day-Date in either white gold, platinum, or yellow gold I will feel incredible. Cheers Bruce, you hit a home run and I’m thrilled for you…
Simple elegance that's unrivalled in the watch industry but I do have this in 36mm . I find that I don't wear it because I'm afraid of scratching it and the effect it has on others so l just rock my Oyster perpetual green dial on a daily basis . Top tip , the OP is the best all round Rolex to own . Slips under the radar, durable and stunning at the same time .
0:15 What is that yellow watch that the seller has? Thank you
Oyster perpetual with yellow dial
Nice one mate...I quite enjoyed this. I actually sold all of my ROLEX...I am now wearing Patek...
I can’t believe it’s been a year since you brought it 😮
I think you knew this was going to be the one.
Just got mine…yellow gold, champagne dial, baguette markers…absolutely gorgeous!!! Will never get rid of it…
How many videos have you made so far about that watch?
I think its a wonderful watch but difficult to wear, too much gold, like a warning on your wrist. Doesn’t come with luminova?
Agree 💯%. I wear a solid 18k vintage/1979 Lady Datejust with baguette and round diamond markers -- the gold is bark finish. Love it.
It’s so hard to get. How can you get this
I own a two tone date just, but I sold the gold day date I inherited. i felt uncomfortable wearing it for the risk and even more for feeling I didn't deserve it.
Elegant, timeless and absolute class. A grail piece for sure.
i have a couple rolex sport models and i enjoy how easy it is to adjust the clasp to get the perfect fit. How easy is that president bracelet to adjust?
Weak trolling..
@@MPD90 i intentionally try to be subtle!!
Not that easy, there is no easy link or glide lock so you need to have it adjusted just right from the get go, not to tight just in case your wrist get swollen because you will not be able to make any adjustments
@@sergiogarcia9822 thanks so much......i figured as much, but I just wasn't sure. Rolex comes up with some innovative things
I personally like the yellow gold, white dial with romans.
I remember thinking to myself when you got it - here he goes again…another piece that’s going to flame out in 6mos. So happy I was dead wrong. Looks like you found your true love.
Full yellow gold is very2 nice but it's just too blingy and loud. The fluted bezel makes it even more so. Maybe 2 tone with Everose gold is better 😂
Blingy is better.
Shiny, high polished gold.
Worse
4:39 Bruce, is there a reason the crown is unscrewed? Presume it's just because you wanted to set it to an appealing time or had just wound it up. But wanted to check you don't store it unwound and if so, why?
They don't make the Roman dials with lume ?
I personally wear a 18038 and wear all the time and had the choice to buy a newer a version but have no regrets
It's a beautiful piece for sure, but like other comments have already stated, wearing it in public would be a risky proposition for most.
Currently wearing my 36 mm yellow gold two tone champagne fluted DJ lusting after this hard. Should I upgrade? I can never remember what day it is.
I have the 36mm version with champagne dial I bought last 2019 when the newer version came out, and I love it so much!! ❤
Rolex Day Date-the President. Congratulations! This is the watch you need!
Definitely my grail watch as well, but I’m after the green dial. Absolutely stunning watch. Love your video on it! Thank you!
Beautiful watch. My personal grail watch is the yellow gold Day Date with the green dial. Working hard towards it. I already have a couple of Rolex purchases with the AD, after the next one I plan on quizzing them about the Day Date.
Who did you sell your other watches with?
Quick question I recently purchased the exact same watch. Usually I take my submariner on vacation but this time want to take only my day date. Would you swim in the pool with this watch? I know it has water resistance but still wanted your opinion
I do. No problem.
You can always get a gold casio A168 as a backup / beater ;)
I have a meteorite dial day date in white gold. Love it!
Well done. That watch can certainly be a one and done piece. I wore various 18 karat yellow gold Rolex watches for 40 years and they hold up great. Remember, there’s nothing special about a stainless steel watch.
What makes gold more special? Some gold rolexes lose way more value than SS, and are made by the same people
DD signifies success since decades. However, 18kt gold is rather soft and will ding easily. I would be too concerned while wearing.
Amazing watch Bruce; did you think about another dials with YG like white / ivory with Roman numerals or a green one ?
Just got mine. So happy
Question : what ’s your job and what your customers are thinking about a full gold watch when you are trying closing them? Just curious
Only watch I need is a Day Date 18k yellow gold 40MM with presidential braclet. Trying to find a used one for a decent price from a reliable vendor with box.
It's gorgeous!!!! The best thing I like about this watch is the Roman numerals on the dial. Stick markers are 5/10. Roman numerals is it!!!!
What size is this one in particular?
Hey - did you consider white gold, to be a bit less noticeable?
One of the most gorgeous timepieces. Nothing like a rolex
Gorgeous. How much? How long of a AD wait for it to buy? Thanks for sharing.
That's a 40,000 + watch easily
Sadly no mention of use/accuracy, setting, winding, movement fee etc. Cheers, lovely piece.
And how does it fare against the Globemaster?
How much did you get it for?
Retail
Agreed, it performs well with every outfit and it does command significant and status once noticed.
What macro lens do you use?
your DD is a beautiful Rolex.
How much was it
