I buy what I like to wear and hopefully keep until I pass them along. But I also want to know I’m getting value for money. Good news is - you won’t go too wrong with most any Rolex at retail. Thanks for the helpful information.
Unfortunately 50-60% of the market, their first question is: “Is this an investment piece?” So it’s a relevant video as that’s where most people’s minds are nowadays.
@@chadbailey7038 The problem is you buy a watch and it appears to go up 25%, who do you sell it to? A grey market site will lowball you. To make the profit, you have to make a private sale. I've decided to buy my first luxury watch and I really love the datejust fluted with jubilee with blue dial. From what I understand this is the entry level watch so I won't even have to wait a long time to get it? Also, it's a great watch that retains its value (not planning to sell it but it's good to know it will maintain it's value in the future).
Sea Dwellers? Walked into a local AD and they'd just gotten a Rolesor that morning. To me it blew away the steel (on display) so I bought it. They sell just about retail on the secondary. But I noticed in the states there are very few around relative to say a Rootbeer or... Forget about Subs. There's a ton of black sub 41mm. The watch wears slightly smaller than the Explorer 2 on my wrist. Really sharp.
1. the first watch steel gold with black dial does not list for 12.1k, it lists for 14.3k on the Rolex website. 2. people do not buy these watches to sell, they buy them because they like them, so re-sale value means nothing.

Such a nice watch watch but has always been a slower seller than the other sports professional models unfortunately. Price wise an over list watch and higher than the blue dial 👍🏻
Smashed it out of the park as usual Charlie 🤘Another very enjoyable video, thank you. The only thing I'd add to your Datejust observation is that the mint green dial is slightly more sought after than the blue dial although you can't go wrong with either. Fluted bezel and jubilee FTW 😉
While discussing the Bluesy, after saying the feedback you've recieved from buyers saying they turn it down because there's nothing in it for them. You should teach those buyers to buy what they love and not worry that after buying they can only resell for $300 more over retail and not $3000...The mindset of a true watch collector isn't focused on profiting on their timepieces.
I agree. Folks are using the word collector too loosely. The overwhelming majority of THESE watches are not purchased for collecting. The new gold rush is watch flipping. The fantasy currency known as crypto, has the watch flippers smarting a bit.

Hi Charlie, very informative as usual. As per an earlier comment you should buy what you like. For me it's Sky-Dwellers. The white gold with the black dial on leather is very subdued but again a lovely looking piece on the wrist. Looking forward to your next video. Great stuff.
This is dumb. Not everyone is concerned about their new Rolex being instantly worth more than they paid for it from an AD.
