  • Something that I was asked to look at recently was an Xbox one. First thing I noticed was the noisy PSU fan, so I figured let's attempt to clean out all the dust and filth and silence it.

This was an excellent guide, mine power supply went from making a noise that I couldn’t drown out with increased television volume, and now they hum of the Xbox fan is louder. Thanks a lot !

“Lube the shaft” 🤣😂 But thanks for the video this literally happened to me today and thought my Xbox broke.

This is a great explanative video, and after I get the right screwdriver I’ll definitely be using this. Thank you for said video.

23.8db vs. 27db is a good improvement for the time this took. Since decibels are measured on a logarithmic scale, the 23.8db is 1.45x quieter than 27db. And, I wasn't aware the fan could just be pulled off like that - TIL! Thanks.

Thanks for this video, very helpful. Note to get the bottom feet/plugs out, I found out to stick a very small screwdriver through the center of the rubber feet and the pry them out from the center (the center of the plug, past the rubber part is hollow). You end up with a tiny hole, but the whole piece pops out without destroying them all. Just my two cents! After cleaning, my son's brick sounded like new!

I just broke two of the feets before realising that I had to stab all the screw into the rubber. That's the harder part of all this process.

I've cleaned out the power brick before but its still loud enough to anoy me so I'm planning on applying some grease, thanks for the tutorial.

After pulling the tv unit out this arvo I realised how bad mine was.
    This did the trick perfectly.

    Damn. Second! ;)
That was a rather simple improvement -- gross, but worth it. I didn't know you could dismantle that fan down to the magnets.

I dont have any white lithium grease so I tried using bearing grease and the noise didn't go down, do I have a bad power supply or should I go get some lithium grease?

How loud is it compared to the Xbox itself? For example when I have the Xbox sitting in the dashboard and the power brick right next to it, I can only just hear the fan in the brick, the Xbox fans are about twice as loud but at a lower pitch. Lithium grease may help, but I can't say it will be a huge improvement over what you have already done. So if it's still annoying loud, I would just order a new fan
At least now you know how to easily replace it

@@TheRetroChannel The boise started about a month ago and if I'm in my room playing it is very noticeable its like a high pitched buzzing noise comming from the brick. Its a little or just as loud as the xbox itself

Are you certain it's coming from the fan? You can try powering on the Xbox briefly without the fan connected, it won't instantly overheat without the fan, just don't go playing RDR for 12 hours straight without it. Obviously make sure to unplug the brick every time you open it

@@TheRetroChannel I know this sounds dangerous but when it was open I plugged it in to see what the sound was and it was comming from the fan itself, everything looks normal so I'm not sure why its making this loud buzzing noise, it only turns off once I full shut down or unplug the console

@@TheRetroChannel I also notice when I have the brick facing downwards the noise seems to go away, but I'm afraid it will overheat

I bought a third party one when my original melted it self lol I've had the new one for about like 5 months one day it was blinking indicating a system fault I just heated up the bottom with a torch then plugged it back in was still blinking so I smacked the hell out of it and it started working 🤷

After trying many things all TH-cam around I followed the instructions in this video with very low expectations, but guess what. It solved completely the annoying noise.
