Xbox One AC Adapter Making Noise [FIXED]

  • My Xbox One AC adapter started buzzing one day. I took it apart and found the fan was the cause. Clearing out the dust made no difference. Putting some grease on the fan resolved it.

    Thanks man still works for a fix. WD40 on a rag touched in the same places you put grease did the trick.

      WD-40 is a cleaner/degreaser, not really a lubricant. Your fix may be temporary. I found a lithium grease "crayon" at the hardware store which worked for me, so you don't have to buy a gi-normous tube of the stuff.

    Just for future reference, The bolts are actually called Torx head bolts. They aren't security bolts and are quite common in modern devices. They were designed as an alternative to the allen head style bolts (hexagon). And are often preferred for the fact that they are less likely to "round/ strip". Also they come in a single sizing standard where an allen head bolts can be either metric or sae.

      I think the screws in mine had the little pin in the middle. We usually call that type security bits at work, but that might be because we usually find them in security cameras, heh. Then again most of our nicknames for stuff are either incorrect and usually HR unapproved.

    • @duanetucker
      @duanetucker 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just for future reference the torx bits shown in the video are often referred to as 'tamper proof' or 'security screws' as was stated in the video to distinguish that the bits require a torx with a center hole due to the screw having a center pin. Doing a search online or Amazon with the wording of 'tamper proof' will yield the correct type of torx bit.

    Just want to say thank you so much for this video,I tried this and it works perfectly for me now. I just used some lubricant/cleaner on that little fan part connector. I was just going to buy a new power brick because it was so loud I wouldn’t want to even play anymore but I feel much more satisfied with myself knowing I fixed it myself

    I had the same problem. I figured it was the fan because of the annoying mechanical sound, which reminded me of the same issue with laptop fans. The sound would also stop, when I turned the power brick in my hand. I followed your tutorial and now it is humming silently as it should. Thumbs up!

  • @Baskaa2000
    @Baskaa2000 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Amazing! I though the loud fan noise was from the console itself, but when I moved things around to get the model number to replace the fan, the converter upgraded from loud to grinding. A dab of lithium grease fixed it, and it turns out the console makes no noise at all. It was the converter the whole time.
    This adapter is a replacement for another one that was grinding. If I haven't thrown it away, I can fix that one as well and have a backup.

Got a new one (a GameStop power brick) and a few months after using it without problems, the fan turns insanely loud, lawnmower loud. After cleaning out the little dust it had I followed this video’s instructions. I used WD-40 instead of what he used, and it’s whisper quiet now!

      Those security screws can really work your Patience. Atleast the ones on the xbox controller when repairing a trigger etc.. from the inside. Seems like they should have out more thought into the product itself and use regular screws instead of security screws then the customer has to do surgery to fix minor flaws of the product
