Wayforward actually has a very sizable catalogue of licensed games and contract work for larger studios that's still growing. They use these titles to bring revenue and train/hone their craft for when they make a new original title. The result is a mixed bag of quality, but the visual style is usually pretty good, as Wayforward is known for
I personally appreciate Contra 4 for letting Jake Kaufman take his Contra-inspired song, Vile Red Falcon, and make it canonical as the first stage theme on Easy and Normal.
@@cartkart1 I must've been tired when I posted that comment. I just meant that Wayforward is known for having a strong sense of visual style and animation quality.
"With their older titles, Wayforward was not quite as well known for quality" Yes, that was only on their old projects. Bakugan on the Switch is indeed the pinnacle of video games.
I know I said over a hundred times why I hate Nickelodeon with all my heart, but one of the reasons I was yet to bring up is that even without that evil excuse of a company making it, the 32-bit SpongeBob games suck ass and because there's 5 + 2, some of them couldn't even land on PhantomStrider's list of worst SB games. And while I pointed out how it's understandable, there's still a lot of horrible games in the franchise like SpongeBob Heropants, Plankton's Robotic Revenge and etc because SpongeBob is one of the best examples of a "zombie franchise" along with Family Guy, The Simpsons, The Powerpuff Girls (like SB, it was only great for the first few seasons), Ice Age, Alpha & Omega and Norm of the North!
OMG! You have to be kidding me! Lights, camera, pants was the game I was looking for this whole time?! I remember playing it on my GBA! I lost both my GBA and the game, and just seeing it here honestly brought me joy.
It’s strange looking at Supersponge, on the PS1 version the sprites have really weird scaling artefacts, as if the sprites were drawn for a lower resolution then poorly scaled up a bit. I thought at first that maybe it was the sprites were just drawn from the GBA version and scaled up but it’s clear to see here that they’re different but similar sprites, and I expect the scaling artefacts come instead from the 2D sprites being positioned into the 3D world and scaled slightly to fit the perspective.
Seeing the amount of character sprites behind Ant continually grow is extremely satisfying. Can’t wait to see that Mrs. Puff sprite back there someday.
I'm pretty nostalgic for BFBB on the GBA. That was the version of the game I grew up with. I didn't even know a better GC version existed until a few years after owning the game

So I have massive nostalgia bias for it, RotFD, BfBB, and the movie game all on GBA. I miss sidescrolling platformers like these. To be honest, the backtracking you cited as a huge negative for Flying Dutchman only really made it more satisfying to beat the stage for me. I remember the same christmas night I got BFBB was the night I got my Dark Blue GBA and two family members bought me the same version of The Movie for GBA as well. It was really funny and I wanted to keep both but they brought the other one back to Toys R Us or Target I can't remember. I was the weird kid who was actually happy to get two of the same game so I could keep thee other mint in box.
I had all the cardboard boxes at some point but my mom threw them away and I'm still sad about it. I still have both carts and my GBA though. I still play it from time to time.
2:35, *Cuphead comes out* Spongebob: Hold my spatula...
5:34 it's *WAY* closer to the sound effect that plays when you shoot a Star Bit (by pointing the Wiimote and pressing the B button)
Atlantis Squarepantis was my first ever game and i loved it as a kid so it hurts to see it that low on the tier list but i understand. The other games did look better. Hope I can play them all someday.
2:11 Maybe it's my musical genre bias, but I'd have said "somebody help me change this animal I have become".
I remember playing the movie gba game all the time as a kid .
That and the creature from the crusty krab were basically all I played on the gba and I beat them like a trillion times.
The movie game was my childhood ❤️
I had several of these SpongeBob games as a kid. What memories!
Would love to see the Spongebob and Friends series covered always enjoyed being able to play as Danny Phantom as a kid
You should play duck tales remastered, it was also made my wayforward and its great!
I've got some pretty fond memories of the movie game mostly from sharing level select passwords with friends lol. I wasn't very good at the autoscrolling or the boss fights so I probably wouldn't have finished it otherwise. I also remember raging on the one level where the wind keeps blowing you to the side of the screen lmao
Sad that there’s no WEESNAW in chat
*sad human noises*
Took you long enough antdude
WHEEEEEEEEE SNAWWWWWWW
I loved Supersponge on PS1. Played it with the boys back in elementary at the afterschool club we went to.
Ah hecc naw they're making a video on Spunch Bop portable games now
I love how the bead sprite collection continues to grow :)
I recently bought battle for bikini bottom on PC. Worst 50p I’ve ever spent.
You haven't spent much money i take it.
@@camharkness bought angry birds space on pc too. Spent a grand total of 1 pound on those two masterpieces
@@dunktastic4232 huh. Well. Eh. If you didn't like battle for bikini bottom rehydrated thats fine.
I guess I'm just envious. I've spent money on things that I ended up not liking.
I Just LOVE that Banjo and Kazooie behind you
No one expects the Spongebob Inquisition.
That's because there isn't one.
12:13 missed opportunity to use the Mrs. Puff "Don't ask questions" line from BFBB.
I remember playing 3 of the spongebob Gba games, bfbb, movie game and lights camera pants. I really missed out on the OG versions
12:48 “a whole lot more digestible” aaah yoou. nothing gets past me.
Im sorry antdude but Super sponge is LITERALLY the best one it's aesthetic was unique and I genuinely loved what you did in the story and goals and the areas you explored were genuinely crazy
The Spongebob Movie GBA game was one of the first games I ever played as a kid. My first gaming experience was from Wayforward and I didn't even know it!
i had alantis squarepantis, truth or square, drawn to life, and boating bash on my ds and i have so many fun memories from those. especially playing the alantis one with a friend at summer camp
The Flying Dutchman can grant wishes though. In the episode Shanghaied he gives Spongebob and Patrick three wishes for his special sock back
I remember having Atlantas squarepantas on ds and really liked it
I'm really excited to see him cover supersponge on the ds because oh boy do I have weird weird nostalgia with that game.
Such a weird game
