So fun fact: the first Hamtaro game isn't really a pet simulator game. It's actually a daily fortune teller game. That's why Hamtaro asks for things like your birthday and blood type. @@Thomasmemoryscentral It technically did have a series finale but a week after the regular series wrapped up the show got moved to 5 minute CGI shorts for a programming block. This is where the really skinny hams and Hi! Hamtaro game comes from
Ham-Ham Heartbreak was such a cool, unexpected little gem when I came across it like four years ago. A cute and charming aesthetic, as well as a fairly unique gameplay type that I hadn't experienced at the time. It was really fun seeing all the adorable little pixel animations play out, which made it compelling to seek out new words and get new animations. I'm so glad these are getting more of a spotlight
Hamham Heartbreak is unironically one of my all time favorite games. I’m currently making my partner play it, and it’s so adorable :’) I’m still so frustrated that Rainbow Rescue never got a proper NA release, but at least I can play the PAL version :D I got my sister a copy of it for xmas in like 2016
Heartbreak is my favorite Hamtaro game. I still have my copy, 100% completed. I also learned it's possible to softlock the game, forcing you to restart from the very beginning.
@@Thomasmemoryscentral Wait Seriously? I just checked and WTF when did Heartbreak get so expensive all of a sudden! Holy shit kinda glad I got ham-hams unite and ham-ham games when I did..

Its always great when someone talks about Hamtaro! I honestly prefer the style of Unite and Heartbreak over Rainbow Rescue but that's mostly because I love P&C adventure games
Ham-Hams Unite was my absolute jam as a kid. I never beat it, but I spent countless hours running around in the levels, trying out all the little scenes, playing dress up in the photobooth, making dance routines in the music room, and visiting all the hamsters in their rooms. I finally revisited the game and beat it a few years ago. I'm man enough to admit I had to look up a walkthrough to find where to get the last few Ham Chats.
I’ve actually had fantasies of Hamtaro being in _Super Smash Bros._ . I picture him and Bijou being playable in a tag team a’la the Ice Climbers, with a moveset made up of Ham-Chats. But alas, Sakurai said that only video game characters can be featured in _Smash_ . One can dream, I guess.
The funny thing about that is that hamtaro is actually mentioned in Super Smash Bros. Brawl if you can believe that! Some of the hamtaro games are listed in the chronicle option. UPDATE: Sorry I had posted this before I started watching this video and I had no idea antdude already mentioned it lol
@@HamtaroSonicHedgehog Still, I'm impressed Nintendo had the guts to put a comprehensive list of games since Brawl's release! Including copyrighted ones.
Let’s be glad it’s only Video game characters, the smash community is way too ruthless for their requests and give Sakurai way too much of a hard time for what he gives in smash. I honestly think that Sakurai had some kind of foresight to this and acted accordingly. It also has been stated that his choice of video game only characters was also partly due to it being his friend/co-workers dying wish.
Awww man, this reminded me of some fond memories of playing these Hamtaro games and staying up way late to play them! Collecting the ham-words, mending hearts. I still remember the little Hawaiian dance segment made up of ham-actions. Thanks for the review, AntDude!
Ham Ham Heartbreak is one of my FAVORITE games. I remember getting it when I was 8 and being terrified of the Boo Manor level. I could not play it at night.
I loved Hamtaro ever since I was a kid. I was even desperate to get Rainbow Rescue because of how polished and adorable and even unique. I don’t play them anymore, but the memories will always be there.
I love the Hamtaro anime and maybe even more so the games, the GBA ones plus Unite in particular, it's a shame practically nobody even mentions them so thank you for covering them! 4:55 Didn't know about this, no surprise I enjoyed Unite and Heartbreak so much then, Mole Mania is another game that I really like! 12:16 Beautiful, too bad they didn't include it in the final game.
Ham-Ham Unite and Heartbreak were a huge part of my childhood thank you so much for finally covering these!!! It's good to know there's a third game in the Hamtaro adventure game set, I'll have to track down an English copy sometime (or, you know, get it some other way). And for the record, they couldn't add Hamtaro to Smash because the Legendary Spoon would be OP.
Hamtaro, Sailor Moon, and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood were my first anime, and I'd say those were good, maybe even great starters! I also have fond memories of playing a little bit of Sonic Advance, a *ton* of Pokémon LeafGreen, a lot of Rainbow Rescue, and a little bit of Ham-Ham Heartbreak all on a GBA emulator that my big sister set up for me and my little brother to play on her laptop. Those were good times…
1:58 You just brought back some dark memories of me watching Ebichu online 6 years ago thinking it was some sort of Hamtaro spinoff. My innocence has since diminished...
Context but waayy too toned down please i still remember a comment on remix 10 perfect taking about an animation of the same style but too toned up. Please i don't want to see the Wikipedia description
Ham-ham heartbreak is SUCH a good game, for kids or just fans of cute stuff! I played it in high school so I wasn't the target audience but I still found it a lot of fun. Lots of exploration and entertaining interactions, and a few neat puzzles, even.
I love Hamtaro and played the first three Gameboy games. I even took my very first alone bus ride downtown to buy Ham-Ham Heartbreak late one night right when it was freshly released
It's so cool to see someone mainstream covering the Hamtaro Games! They're honestly so underrated. That being said, I admittedly can't help but be disappointed that you did not see Rainbow Rescue through to the end. Not only is it arguably the best hamtaro game, but you've only completed less than half of it. Rainbow Rescue has a beefy post game that unlocks whole new areas to explore and ham-hams to meet. You even get the ability to choose any combination of the ham-hams from the clubhouse to come with you. It's kind of a disservice to the game to say you've reviewed it when you haven't even at least seen the second credits screen.
Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Heartbreak holds a special place in my heart. That game is so charming and feel good that it's helped me get through some bad times in my life. I will sing that game's praises until the day I die.
Thanks for doing this, the first three games (minus the fortune telling one) are my favs. I find myself replaying them out of nostalgia sometimes, it’s hard to believe Hamtaro games were as great as they were before ultimately succumbing to shovelware tier. Hamtaro will always be a part of my fav childhood memories, the show and games cemented that.
Aw man, I remember watching the anime... It was just so cute! Like, there was this episode where the Ham-Hams were to go watch the cherry blossom trees and have a picnic near them, but Bijou stayed at her owner's home to keep her company because she was sick. So, Boss and the others decided to bring in bundles of cherry blossoms and hang by her home's backyard tree, so it could feel like they had a cherry blossom tree right next to them! Just how sweet and adorable is that?? And man, I absolutely must play these adventure games, all three a dem, I just MUST!
i absolutely loved hamham heartbreak! even had a friend in college and we’d both play and swap off when we couldn’t progress anymore, it did have a lot of wandering involved, but amazing music and it was so CUTE!
Look, I'll be totally honest, Hamtaro *is* kinda one of, if not my favorite anime of all time. For kids? Sure, but still. It might've been my first experience with anime. 19:33 Ah, you see, that's because that game was designed for the artstyle of a Japan-only reboot of sorts, or perhaps a sequel, _Tottoko Hamutaro Hai,_ which was a collection of 3D animated shorts, which made the Ham-Hams shaped like peanuts for some reason.
I love that you made a video on these games since I love Hamtaro. I used to play all these games all the time as a kid and seeing people talk about them in 2022 is amazing.
I remember growing up playing Hamtaro Ham Ham Heartbreak! The worlds and puzzles were such a treat to play through, and its just such a great game to chill out with.
7:03 - My favorite part about this is, if I remember correctly, "Nopookie" meant "dislike" Imagine falling to your death and all you can say is "I dislike this"
I played the ever living s*** out of heartbreak. At so much fun as a child trying to figure out how to progress in the story and what to do. It probably wouldn't live up to the same amount of fun as I had before but it was a nice casual game to play.
So I'm 41/F, never watched the anime or got into Hamtaro but I was aware of it. This year I started getting back into retro games and was at a store and bought ham-ham heartbreak for about $55 along with ham-ham games for $12. I looked up a quick review and considering the price being an indicator of popularity perhaps, I took a gamble. I have to say, I'm loving this game (heartbreak) so much. It's super cute and so wholesome. I've been enjoying it so much so I went online and bought ham-ham unite, rainbow rescue, and ham-ham challenge. It's unfortunate to hear challenge will likely not be as fun but I look forward to playing the others. Also, Hamtaro and Bijou should totally be in Smash. Also, that titanic parody should've been left in... It would've been hilarious.
Hamtaro is surprisingly one of the most well known anime ever, but I didn’t know that they’ve made so many games based around this adorable little hamster 🐹. Even it got its N64 game, which is even more amazing. It’s really incredible that how much handheld games they’ve made and Nintendo themselves have endorsed it in their library of games. Hamtaro is indeed the king of all kawaiis.
Oh my god...Unite and Heartbreak just hit me with a wave of nostalgia. I wonder if I still have them somewhere, because damn, I really want to play them now.
Ham Ham Heartbreak was such a fun part of my childhood. I really wish we got more Hamtaro. We were so close with Story of Seasons Trio of Towns a few years ago. But Hamtaro ended up being a Japanese exclusive.
Ham-Ham Heartbreak & Ham-Ham Games are SO nostalgic and important to me and my family. I think Ham-Ham Heartbreak might be the first game I ever played start to finish? I know the missions by heart, and the music still slaps. And even though Ham-Ham Games is mainly a minigame collection, I LOVE that there’s such a vibrant overworld hub to explore. I know it wasn’t mentioned in the video, but the in-game weeks have their own little running storylines that repeat in three-week intervals. It’s such a small detail, but it really gives the game so much personality IMO. Even though I didn’t really grow up with Rainbow Rescue like the others, it’s probably my personal favorite of the bunch, and I just love the gameplay loop and vibrant world. I’m very fortunate to own a physical copy!
ham hams unite is the oddest game I've played that I borrowed from a friend a long time ago but somehow I really liked this game, it's endearing, it's music is quite nice and collecting the ham chat words filled that collectathon part of my brain
I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve replayed Hamtaro Ham-Ham Heartbreak. Even as an adult it still stands up as a well made game with a lot of charm. I got into the series from my friends in elementary school and remember us secretly huddling around a GBC during recess to play the earlier games in the series. When that Nintendo Summer 2003 guide came out with Rainbow Rescue I was so excited, sad we never got it in NA but at least I can play it now I’ve come across a lot of “rip-off” hamster adventure games here in Japan that seem interesting and am looking forward to going through those too
@@IgorsDen Oh wow!! I’m so happy to hear that, wasn’t expecting anyone to have seen and then remembered them haha. I’ll probably end up doing the rest of the game as one extra long video someday.

Ham-Ham Heartbreak was always one of my favorite games on the GBA. I remember the clerk at the store I bought it at making fun of me for buying it because I guess I was a little too old to be enjoying Hamtaro at the time but, whatever, I had a blast with that game.
I never got to play Rainbow Rescue, but the other two original games were so fun to play, especially Ham-Ham Heartbreak! I can't count the number of times I replayed that game. :3
Man I was obsessed with Ham Ham Games for awhile. I remember I could churn out a season of games in like 20 minutes tops (I sucked at Penelope's obstacle course tho. Was awesome at volleyball, though.
YESSSS! Amazing games. Glad to see so many other people in the comments talking about how they too were completely charmed by these games, particularly the one I grew up with, Ham Ham Heartbreak. The music, atmosphere, and spritework completely sells these games, and the gameplay perfectly accentuates these aspects with its focus on exploring interesting environments, meeting new characters, and learning new words. The plot itself is really creative for a video game too, I think. Rather than a simple point-based game or set of minigames, narrative puzzles had to be designed for each couple, which is not the easy-way-out. Gah, I loved Heartbreak as a kid, and I'm so mad at myself I didn't buy Hams Hams Unite when I saw it at a used book store because I was embarrassed to in front of friends. And yes, the music is so good! Some of the best tunes I've ever heard using the gba sound font. Shop theme was one of my favorites too!
I would be down for Nintendo to do more licensed games. Imagine Nintendo making a My Hero Academia game, or at the very least HAL Laboratory since they’re third party and Bandai Namco has the license for My Hero Academia. Also Popeye should be in the next Smash Bros.
Make it Sonic Adventure style with individual campaigns for each of the 1A students and the main villains or just six for Izuku, Bakugo, Ochako, Tenya, Todoroki, and Himiko as the villain rep ala Gamma with UA, Musutafa City, and All For One’s Hideout as the three explorable HUB worlds.

I played two of the Hamtaro games growing up and they were my FAVORITES!! There is absolutely no combat. Your only goal is to help a ton of adorable hamsters with their problems, and it's perfect. Never found another game quite like it since. It's a puzzley, funny, adorable adventure.
As a kid I was a big fan of the anime, and saw one of these games in the local toy shop. So naturally I begged my mom to get it. When we got home she though it was "too childish" for me and went back to trade it in for a different game. She got me the GBA version of DKC, which, I guess isn't a bad trade. But man I feel ilke I've been missing out on this experience.

Not gonna lie, I loved this game as a kid. An absolutely massive game and really needed when you only get 2-3 games a a year as a kid.
The reason the first game asks your blood type is that in Japan there's a belief your blood type determines your personality, kinda like a horoscope.
Hold onto that fame, it's one of those expensive PAL games and Ham Ham Heartbreak suddenly shot up in price
@@Thomasmemoryscentral Wait Seriously? I just checked and WTF when did Heartbreak get so expensive all of a sudden!
Holy shit kinda glad I got ham-hams unite and ham-ham games when I did..
@@HamtaroSonicHedgehog yeah but ham Heartbreak isnt insane expensive as the late 90s nes sequels. Loose copies can be bought under 100.
Ham Ham Unite and Ham Ham Games are still affordable too.
@@Thomasmemoryscentral You're right that it's not exactly a "burn your wallet" kind of price, but I'm still shocked that it got pricier now all of a sudden.
Ham-Ham Heartbreak was actually my first GBA game. I remember buying it with a clear pink GBA.
That's why Smash Bros. Modding exists! But seriously, Ham-Chats as moves sounds very creative!
@@sybils-butler-bentley Right? 😊
Ham-ham heartbreak is one of my FAVOURITE GAMES growing up. I’ve replayed it like 20 times.
Playing ham hams unite nonstop is one of my earliest memories, and I completely forgot about it. Thank you for the nostalgia.
It's nice to see these underrated games are still being mentioned
And when will you do the rest of the starfy series?
Everyone wants Master Chief, Dante, and Geno for Smash yet this legend of a Rodent is excluded!?
A Ham-Ham Heartbreak indeed.
Wanna know what’s also a ham ham-heartbreak?
The fact that the doom slayer is a mini skin.
@@Parky64 So terrible it make one want to *rip* out the tissue and *tear* up.
@@Parky64I mean, at least he’s in the game at all!
THE NOSTALGIA 😭😭 I was obsessed with the hamtaro games when I was younger 🥺
Never did I think I'd find a single TH-camr talk about Ham Ham Heartbreak.
I also can't believe I still vividly remember this game
This is so cool because my wife and i just played through and 100%'d Ham-Hams Unite like 2 weeks ago and it was so nice
Ant, I love that you are covering these! I have such nostalgia for Ham-Ham Heartbreak and the GBC one as well
It's actually really interesting that Nintendo made licensed games based on Hamtaro. It's really cool
Ham-Hams Unite was one of my childhood favorites! The entire series has just been a delight to cover
Rainbow Rescue is so fun! The post-game is like a whole second game in its own right.
And he's like "only a spoonful!" And then thats when King Hamtaro pulls out a comically large spoon
Hamtaro Ham-Ham Heartbreak is an S tier game and you can't convince me otherwise.
Hamtaro as a videogame deserves a comeback
Antdude is really “hamming” up how good these games are
-_-
Don’t go ham on these jokes
@@DirectorOfChaos9292 thanks. It’s better than being a fun killer
I remember growing up playing Hamtaro Ham Ham Heartbreak! The worlds and puzzles were such a treat to play through, and its just such a great game to chill out with.
7:03 - My favorite part about this is, if I remember correctly, "Nopookie" meant "dislike"
Imagine falling to your death and all you can say is "I dislike this"
I played the ever living s*** out of heartbreak. At so much fun as a child trying to figure out how to progress in the story and what to do. It probably wouldn't live up to the same amount of fun as I had before but it was a nice casual game to play.
I was obsessed with Hamtaro as a kid. Glad to see these games get the love they deserve.
"He's much better when he's naked"
So not even Hamtaro an apron could make you happy? Damn.
Glad you're finally covering these hidden gems. My sibling used to make me help them beat their Hamtaro games, and they are, of course, excellent.
What a high quality video
Grew up watching Hamtaro. Wish we got a complete series blu-ray or a complete collection of the manga
Antdude has talked about Hamtaro for like 2 years now and I have never heard of it before. I am glad too finally have this history lesson.
I have such fond memories of Ham Ham Heartbreak as a kid, so much so i went back a few years ago and re-completed it because it still holds up to me.
I wonder if I still have them somewhere, because damn, I really want to play them now.
i played both hamham rainbow rescue and hamham games in my childhood and this was a nice throwback. thank you. ☺️
We appreciate the cool backgrounds every episode Ant! All those sunseeds on the desk! 😂❤️
Ham-Ham Heartbreak was SO FUN and adorable and I picked it up in 2002 when I was like 25 and I have NO REGRETS
I loved Hamtaro so much as a kid; I named my actual hamster after him. Kind of shocked I never played any of these in hindsight.
ham hams unite is the oddest game I've played that I borrowed from a friend a long time ago
but somehow I really liked this game, it's endearing, it's music is quite nice and collecting the ham chat words filled that collectathon part of my brain
When that Nintendo Summer 2003 guide came out with Rainbow Rescue I was so excited, sad we never got it in NA but at least I can play it now
I’ve come across a lot of “rip-off” hamster adventure games here in Japan that seem interesting and am looking forward to going through those too
Remember enjoying some of your Hamtaro videos a couple of years back
@@IgorsDen Oh wow!! I’m so happy to hear that, wasn’t expecting anyone to have seen and then remembered them haha. I’ll probably end up doing the rest of the game as one extra long video someday.
@@StarlitGlitch I particularly remember your video in the Hamtaro café!
Man these games were my entire childhood. Rainbow Rescue was my favourite, I played it so many times. Not only was the story really cute and energizing there was also so much to do in the post game, even though I played the game a least half a dozen times I always kept discovering new stuff
Ham-Ham Heartbreak was always one of my favorite games on the GBA. I remember the clerk at the store I bought it at making fun of me for buying it because I guess I was a little too old to be enjoying Hamtaro at the time but, whatever, I had a blast with that game.
Shoulda just told them "HAMTARO KILLED A MAN!"
I love the pile of sunflower seeds on your desk, great touch!
I never got to play Rainbow Rescue, but the other two original games were so fun to play, especially Ham-Ham Heartbreak! I can't count the number of times I replayed that game. :3
Thanks so much Antdude for covering these games!! Hamtaro and the GBC-GBA games were a core part of my childhood!
Man I was obsessed with Ham Ham Games for awhile. I remember I could churn out a season of games in like 20 minutes tops (I sucked at Penelope's obstacle course tho. Was awesome at volleyball, though.
Hantaro is one of my favorite things from childhood, and I’ve heard ham-ham heartbreak in particular is a VERY good game many people love!
DUDE, I LOVE THESE GAMES. THIS ANIME INTRODUCED ME TO SO MUCH.
Nintendo should do licensed games but not those. And Goku needs to be in SSB before Popeye.

That's just genius. What with being able to play as the main trio of Izuku, Bakugou, and Todoroki along with Ochako and Tenya, Izuku's first friends at U.A. along with Himiko.
@Master Shifu Like Joker from P5? Persona is part of the SMT series which is adapted from a book, so the series' origins are non-gaming.
@Master Shifu I'm telling you Sakurai has been inconsistent. He even considered James Bond who obviously didn't originate in gaming. And again, the SMT series didn't either. His arbitrary rules mean nothing.
I played two of the Hamtaro games growing up and they were my FAVORITES!! There is absolutely no combat. Your only goal is to help a ton of adorable hamsters with their problems, and it's perfect. Never found another game quite like it since. It's a puzzley, funny, adorable adventure.
Revisiting the video since it got sampled in a siivagunner song!
I'm glad I randomly stumbled upon this video! My love for Hamtaro knows no bonds and all of the GBA games were amazing
