Bought a used 2021 mt09 in Aug 2023 at a local dealer. Yamaha had issued a Stop Sale Order / recall due to this same issue. The ecu got a reflash, and the o2 sensor on the exhaust may corrode and cause the bike to stop running. It took 2-3 months for a final fix, I believe mostly o2 sensor related, either a new o2 sensor and harness and/or shielding or cover to protect the sensor.
I have the SP, it does the same to me occasionally. When it shuts off, pull in ur clutch and press the start button. Also, I try not to totally close my throttle during deceleration. I can’t wait for the recall mail to fix this.
@@godzeus9702 this problem was definitely irritating but overall the MT09 is a great bike. If I had to go back and grab another bike tho, I would look at the Z900 or Indian FTR
I got the recall notice this week for my 2021 SP. Got it scheduled to go in on 4/11. I haven't had mine do it but I've only put a little over 500 miles on it. Ride safe.

This is the same issue I’m having. It happened after I installed the dominator exhaust. Dealer said I needed a ecu flash. Guess they’re wrong. Also you can’t change power modes while it’s happening.
I had the same thing happen on my 2021 MT09 SP. All off a sudden the throttle had no response, I was able to coast to a not as bad spot on the side of the road. The bike remained idling but there was no throttle response. Turned it off, then back on and the bike ran fine but the engine light was on. I took it to the dealer that day. By the time I got there the engine light was off but the code was still there. They said the parameters on the throttle body did not meet the parameters on the throttle position sensor but could not say why it happened. Hopefully the recall for an ECU reprogram will fix this as well. It has only happened to me once and I have about 2700 miles on the bike.
I got the same bike no problems with my I've heard of this going on to the mt 09 2021 but I haven't had any issues with it thanks God. I SUB BECAUSE I GOTTA SUPPORT ANY MT09 LOVERS MAN IS A SWEET MOTORCYCLE

Recall came out just before they were done and they reflashed it before giving the bike back to me. Not sure if the throttle body or recall flash fixed the issue but the bike has been perfect ever since.
I installed the gp3 exhaust like you and was going to send my ecu to 2wdw and thank god for this video I found out about this and the dealer told me about the tune/recall conflict so thank god I knew in time to get the recall done first love the videos man the mic does not do the exhaust justice it sounds way better in person but also is ear shattering loud I get the nasties looks now it’s hilarious

I had the same issue happen to me once where I had absolutely no throttle response & CEL appeared. Turned the bike off & back on like you & It was back but still with a CEL. Brought to the dealer the next day but they didn’t have a solution. This was back in October but I’m starting to see a lot more people with the same issue. Going to keep an eye on this for sure because It is concerning
That is f'ed up and scary! I have an '18 and a new '21. Never had issues with '18. However, my '21 does a funny almost die kinda thing when decelerating to a stop, just approaching 600mi. Done it a couple times now, I can tell it's when it's closing the throttle/butterflies on decelerating. Just kinda weird, haven't had issues as bad as yours though. There are obviously fueling issues, possible recall coming, it's pretty serious safety issue. By the way, like my '21 too. Guy I bought '18 from spent ridiculous amounts of money on it, took it from dealer to performance place and spent about another $6k in parts alone. '18 has K-Tech suspension front and rear, it's an absolute Cadillac compared to my new '21. '18 has a yosh exhaust/flash, it's an absolute beast, 116whp. Going to miss the '18 cause it's so dialed, it only has like 4k mi on it. Going to have to start over and and start building new bike from scratch, a rear shock will definitely be on the list. Can't keep them both. Kinda wished I had flipped for the sp but I can make plane jane just as good if not better than an sp. Wish you luck with your problem. Yea mine has slight stalling issues from take off. And I have heard my idle drop pretty low coming to a stop. I definitely agree, wish I would’ve grabbed a SP but, I’m definitely content with the standard 09. Dropped the bike off at the shop today, we’ll see what they say.
Yea I think so. That’s what I asked them. Just had my ecu flashed by 2wdw and Yamaha said I’d have to have them reflash it for me to have it tuned again. So I’m sending the ecu back out to be retuned.
@@KingFriday274looks like you have same problem I had. A lot of throttle bodies are faulty straight from manufacture. I took bike to dealership they changed the tps. It already had ecu flashed. Never fixed the problem so I bought a used set off eBay and problem fixed. Yamaha don’t want to admit that it’s a problem though which is absolutely ridiculous
Mine done the same thing with less than 60 miles on it. Plus two times now the key won't turn on? It's like when you're in a car and steering wheel is turned to far it won't let it turn on. I did see that there is a recall on bike cutting off.
Haven't had the key problem but I took the bike in for the ECU recall. Hopefully that fixes my issue. Is it both keys or just one? could be some damage on your key, could be barely missing a pin
Hi there, i got my bike recently, and it has same issue in your video. My vin number shows that my bike was assemble on January 2021. I bring it to my dealer and told them about the issue. They were surprise about the recall (my country is Vietnam) and asked some link for reference. In the end they are update the ECU for me said that it is the latest firmware but im not sure it is. They show me the picture before and after the ECU was update it is the same number. 202201_BAM3_01. Did the dealer show you the version of the firmware?
So did you have 2WDW flash it before taking it in for recall? I want to send my ECU to 2WDW. But dont want that to cause problems if i ever have to take it in for recall
Yea I got it flashed before taking it in. unfortunately the reflash from Yamaha will erase my 2wdw tune. So I will have to send the ECU back out to 2wdw to get reflashed.

Not that I know of. I have mine Flashed by 2wdw and when the bike is operating properly, it’s amazing. Yamaha is reflashing my ecu so I will have to get it retuned.
@@RevolverMaxx if it keeps happening even after the flash I may contact Yamaha about getting a different bike. Not sure how’d they work that out but I’d rather give the bike up and jump on something else then ride a bike I can’t trust
Vnut flash does not fix this. If you had it flashed before the dealer does the recall then you will need to send it back to tuner and get it flashed again
Bought my 2022 yesterday and made sure they applied the reflash before they delivered it today thanks to a few of these videos.

Exactly. All my settings got locked and I couldn’t do anything
My bike isn’t on the recall list. Following you now. Hopefully we can get a fix for this soon.
@@daniellgray1987 if it’s a 21 or 22 MT09 your bike is on the list. It’s 100 percent of the production.

You can tune ecu back to stock when you need warranty! TWDW WILL FLASH BACK TO STOCK FREE.

There is a recall on the ecu for certain Vin models
I had my ECU reflashed by Moore Mafia i never expected this issue in 6k miles if i get the Yamaha fix i think I'll lose my Moore Mafia tune

There is a recall for that. It only takes about an hour to fix.

Just got my bike to the shop, they are just going to reflash the ecu and that should fix my issue. We’ll see.

I sent my ECU to vcyclenut I believe his flash fixes this issue. As well as the recall for the bike.

The new mt-09 is rubbish. And that's a fact. I have gotten rid of it and got myself a KTM duke 790 instead. Love the KTM.
