  • In today’s video I give a fully honest review of the Hoka Clifton 9 running shoes as a beginner runner! I talk about the shoe stats (stack height, responsiveness, stability, cushion, heel toe drop), sizing, my experience running in them for the last 3 months as a beginner, who I think the shoe is best for, injury risk/injury prevention with maximal cushion shoes, barefoot running, and why I chose a maximal cushion shoe. This video is unsponsored and non-affiliate.

      @@cadencestringer got my first pair today, can't wait to run in them - gone from vans to Nike frees to hoka. Feels like I'm walking on marsh mellows.

    Lots of great information, very balanced discussion! I love my Clifton 9s! I had researched ‘orthotic-friendly’ as I require my custom orthotics to fit into whatever I wear (e.g., arthritic knees, one leg slightly shorter, history of plantar issues, pronator), and am in my 60s. I walk daily. Just ordered a second pair. The upper will stretch very slightly over use. One shoe was a bit tight near instep due to specific right foot morphology), so wore thin socks initially, but now can accommodate cushioned socks. Another note: their GTX (waterproof) version did not work for me due to stiffer lace-up.

    Interesting video about running shoes! Thanks for not acting like a know-it-all after finding the perfect shoe for you. I am team maximalist 🙋‍♀️. Three years ago I had a stress fracture that later turned into an actual fracture on my fifth metatarsal from wearing a zero drop minimalist shoe while trail running. I don’t really blame the shoe because I think it was just from overtraining and not taking the day off. But I think I had the mentality that wearing minimalist shoes made me bulletproof. I’ve been wearing maximalist shoes since. In fact, these shoes are the only reason I still run!

      Thank you so much for sharing!! Really helpful to hear about different experiences. Love that the maximalist shoe is the reason you run- I feel similarly.

    Hello there, thanks a lot for your video, i found it very interesting. I will try out this shoe in wide, i hope i find a story to try it on, i am coming from joe nimble addict shoes for daily walks (work and dog) but found myself getting issues lately from the Nimble SHoes so i am planning to try this shout. I dont need it for running, but daily walks 10 k steps and more, thanks a lot

      @@cadencestringer Hi there, I was in a store but they onle had normal widht, tried a 39 and a 40 and it was toooo small in the toe box, i have wide feed and they got even a bit wider after wearing Joe Nimble shoes for a year. But I will try to online order a 40 2/3 in Size Wide (Male Shoe) and hope that could be something. If not it will be very sad because I like the shoe

      Hello, i got my Clifton 9 yesterday : EU 40, Wide version and male version and it fits perfect! I use them for daily walks (so far), but maybe I will buy another pair for running, too. The only downside is, so few color options available for the wider version :/ Great Shoe, thanks again for your video.

    I think barefoot was a big trend for a while and whole brands and religions got created for it but seems to have fizzled out with people getting injured by transitioning too quickly. Comfort is key imo, walking barefoot on grass is comfortable, you could probably get a heel strike comfortable barefoot running experience by getting a low drop max stack soft cushion shoe, would be like running on sand more or less. Also regular zero drop running is all about forefoot striking and getting a more springy, bouncy shock absorption, you can forefoot run in a regular cushioned shoe or even more fun in a carbon plated race shoe for very similar results and more protection.

    I tried all the Hoka shoes in store and found them all bulky. I went with the Asics gel nimbus 25. Cushy but didn’t feel bulky on my feet.

    • @cadencestringer
      @cadencestringer  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That makes sense, they're definitely a bulky shoe. Just looked them up, and the asics gel nimbus shoes look really nice!

      I haven't tried the nimbus 26 so I'm not sure about those. I think the hoka clifton 9s would be good for walking and running those distances though!
