@@Epicmonk117 that was most likely because that jump wasn’t intended to be survivable. I tested it myself, and the double jump does negate Torrent’s fall damage, if the jump is survivable. If it’s not, then whatever you do, you’ll die anyways.
Dunno if beginners notice it enough, but the glowing skulls laying around on the ground that you can kick around, can actually be broken for a rune item, 200 runes per pop. Or ran over with Torrent. Super useful early on.
definitely much easier with torrent, you can gallop at full speed over them and spam Y and collect them reliably with no slowing down. these things are suprisingly useful to bank (along with all runes) b/c you can top yourself up to the next level when you are close to dump souls before a boss fight or something that might risk losing your whole pool
I thought that was obvious until I was streaming for a friend to show him an area and he said "Wait, you can hit those things?" Then I was like huh, I guess some people just don't hit everything they see.
Another tip: The enemies in the mines carrying the minerals on their backs; They are often weak to fire damage and sometimes even explode with just 1 hit from your torch.
Minor horse tip: if you're having trouble with some trickier parkour sections, invest in the Telescope item. If used on horseback, it will allow you to rotate Torrent in place without the extra forward or backward movement
@@rickybindahoose6193 on a related note, resist the urge to hit Circle/B to try putting the scope away. It doesn't do that 😖 edit: well, i guess technically it *does* put it away, just not how i intended
Basic Tip that I know a lot of people missed. Crafting throwables like fire urns require Cracked Urns but they seem rare for most players. So they don't craft them. However Cracked Urns are not consumed in the making of Throwables. Instead they simply act like Flask Charges for Throwables. The more Cracked Urns you fine the more throwables you can have at one time. So don't feel afraid to craft throwables in the game.
@@GreazedPanther The cracked pots aren't consumed on making things so just think of them as pot charges. If you have 5 cracked pots you can make 5 firebombs. or 3 firebombs and 2 holy bombs. After using 1 holy bomb you could replace it with any other throwable you can make from the crafting menu. And since you can hold 20 of them It would seem you can have 20 throwables at your disposal.
The getting coated in poison when rolling in it mechanic was in Dark Souls 2, and for those who don't know- you can use the Soap item to clean that off and stop the build up
Daym, I played DS2 and I had no clue this was a thing, just kept rolling like a madman :D but I guess it just comes down to that either you do rolling and don't mind or you try to avoid it completely if you can. Still very useful to know
There's also an incantation you can find called "use the flame, cleanse me" that cures poison and scarlet rot. it's in Liurnia of the Lakes at a Fire Monk camp southeast of the Church of Vows.
The part of demi-humans is actually on a note one of the merchants have. Not sure which one, but i read it ingame. Those notes all cost 200 runes and is actually really useful
Thank you for making and sharing this video! Two years ago, at the age of 72, I purchased my first ever gaming system a PS 4 Pro. I've played several COD's, God of War, GTA, AVC, Ghost recon Breakpoint, Wildlands, and Division 2 which I obtained the platinum trophy. Earlier this year, I was able to buy a PS 5 and 4K monitor so I bought Ghost of Tsushima! WOW!!!! A week ago, I bought Elden Ring. I've been getting my butt kicked and die a100 or times or more a day. I'm going to use your tips to try and make some progress.
Here's another tip, if you summon an Ashes npc helper, or summon a player helper, use throwing knives or bow and arrow to juggle the agro between you and the helper, this should make some tough fights easier! And keep having fun on the games! I really love your comment, take care.
You were right, there is one guy who didn't know you could attack to your left on your horse. Thanks! I can't believe I never even did it accidently throughout 34 hours of play.
I did it by accident the first time, I guess it's easy enough to forget to check. Oh and another fun thing, if you use a casting medium you still get the ability to attack on your left side while using it. So r1 is casting while the others are regular attacks. Not sure how many has tried using spells from horseback yet, but it could be useful in a pinch
Another useful tip. If you're sick of having to two-hand your weapon in order to use its weapon art. There is an Ash of War that is called No Skill. Attach that to your shield and now your weapon's skill will be the default attack that comes out when you press L2. Even when you have the shield out. (Spoiler: you can buy it from Warwick, a merchant in a shack to the east of Stormveil Castle)
soo good with the uchi art, really lets you use it to counter quickly, or retaliate after blocking. I dont know if there are any other arts that are as fast, but ive found that using it to counter enemy attacks and staggering them has been QUITE effective. even bosses. the R2 version is SO much better tho. I mean, im hitting for over 700 with a +8. not to mention it breaks blocks too. so block, r2 draw, stagger blocking enemy and posture break them, then a free stab. ez
I really hope the Devs are proud of themselves. I mean that. This game is a masterpiece, and I hope they feel proud of what they've made, and how much love it's getting.
You must be on a console lol. PC needs help with stuttering and frame rate drops. Obviously it's not keeping us from playing. My first Soul Bourne. Loving it
@Xavier people say Radahn is bad but the three Putrid Crystalians i found in a hidden cave I think is literally the worst boss I've ever seen in a Soulsborne game lmao. Three Crystalians in one fight that also cause scarlet rot- and you only get 7000 souls for beating them. It's hot garbage.
@@inkytanku8935 It's not about specs, it's about the game's poor optimisation (probably related to the use of Easy AntiCheat). They've definitely taken steps to improve it, but I'm still noticing a couple of hitches on a PC that otherwise gets buttery smooth performance running any game on max settings.
I went to the Mistwood and found an elevator inside this big structure. I went inside figuring it was just another mini dungeon. Waited on the elevator for almost 30 seconds as it took me down into these huge, underground ruins. There is so much cool stuff to see in this game it’s unreal.
I ran through that are last night. It is huge. It seems totally optional too, which is wild to think. Such a beautiful looking, and fun area might be missed by a fair bit of people.
Another tip I just figured out after 30 hours. You get more runes at night when you see the golden leaves of the Erdtree raining down. I think it applies the same buff as the gold-pickled fowl foot.
@@thereallollifeoflegacy7524 I kept thinking why the hell am I randomly getting buffed at night. Came across it in a rune farming guide, and lo and behold none of my friends knew it was a thing either.
Another horse tip: using the command to two hand a weapon will switch to your off hand weapon. This is useful if you off hand a spell focus, as you can switch to it easy on horseback.
Duuuude that's actually super useful for me. I want my staff in my offhand so I can have both magic+melee available, but it was annoying because I couldn't use my spells while on horseback. This changes everything! Thanks!
Here's another really useful tip i just realised: when on horseback, you only need to press the sprint button once to keep moving fast. You don't have to keep holding it like in previous souls games. Torrent will start walking slowly again when you fall down to a lower platform, but then just press sprint again once to start moving fast
@Kamyuyon I think he was just meaning to run in the games in general you had to hold the button where here to go fast you just need to toggle, I assume for the horse and character
@@DirtyLillNeo nah for your character you need to hold down. In witcher 3 you could toggle your horses speed. Anyways I stop nitpicking now and am going back to Eldest Bling
Great video! Something to add to the rainbow stone is that if it lands and turns yellow, it means you’ll take fall damage. If it’s green it means you won’t :)
This game is a masterpiece. I’ve already accumulated over 20 hours and I haven’t even fought the main boss of limgrave yet. Also I think all of us can agree that we need a certain metallic fruit to guide us through the pvp meta
PvP sucks, atleast what i've seen. Had 3 Invasions and every single one was some omega tryhard with a weapon i have never seen, 2-shotting our host. I have 7 hours and not yet a single proper fight against a human.
@@CODA96 there is a zone east of the limgrave castle where you can get acess to competitive pvp items. I tried it a few times and the matches were pretty balanced. I have no idea if there is lvl based matchmaking like other games.
Same, I'm around 20 hours in and I just beat the castle door boss. As soon as I found the rot area, I spent like 5 hours just exploring and getting one shot by mobs and bosses I was obviously not ready to face. Still had a ton of fun though, this game really nails exploration.
@@CODA96 Nah man, the PvP in this is even better than DS2 (Which had the best.) The need to read your opponent and the necessity to use your full moveset is VERY rewarding. You have the advantage in a 3v1. If the invader wins, it's purely testament to his skill, regardless of the amount of damage he does. However, the damage from Invaders have been negligible at best. I've been testing PvP and the only guys who do a lot of damage are the guys who defeated the Grafted Scion. They deserve the damage if the won that fight.
One thing I've never seen people mention is crouch attacks. You get a different R1 attack while crouching and you can pull it off pretty fast. Even while walking if you click crouch and then attack right after you'll pull it off and go back to standing. It could have use in pvp but in the main game it'll probably depend on how different the attack swing is.
@@DankbeastPaul But sometimes the rolling attack is no different than the standard attack. It doesn't do anything for me with the heavy greataxe, I guess cause you can't really stab with an axe
By looking closely at the gargoyle statues you can see whether or not there is a key already in place. This way you know whether you need one or two keys to unlock the fog wall.
@@Serafiniert the first one you see requires 2. I think it's why you get 2 as a starting item instead of 1. They're pretty easy to find though & a good few merchants sell them
Here's one thing I think you should add: Don't be afraid to two hand your shield to block. The amount of attacks you'll survive is staggering. The tree sentinel can't even touch you as long as you manage your stamina. Even if an attack breaks your guard you won't take any damage as long as your shield blocks all physical. A good starting class is any character with a shield that blocks all physical because you can study the enemy's attack pattern easier.
The Soldiers of Godric enemies (soldiers with the orange and green armor) can drop a kite shield with 100% physical damage negation. Only caveat is that some classes (at least starting out) won’t meet the Strength requirement to use a lot of these shields
That's true. I DESTROYED the bloodhound knight just by blocking all his attacks. All you gotta do against him is block, wait for a 3 hit chain or a heavy with cooldown and then attack once. He does the combos and heavies a lot, so it won't take too long. Just be careful with the blood loss, make distance when the bar is big
There's a really cool, super niche hidden mechanic in a weapon nobody ever uses - Crystal Darts! When you hit an enemy enough times with Crystal Darts, it causes them to frenzy and attack everything around them. For me, this turned the Watchdog fight at the Minor Erdtree Catacombs from "broken statue of Marika" to "Wait for one of the bosses to kill the other and have 3/4ths of its health depleted."
bruh i literally sit in mines and stock up on hundreds of crack crystals for the free magic damage. shit is so fast and rips through anybody with bad mag resistance
Here's one that took me a while to get: with a rapier or a curved sword, if you do a backstep while charging a heavy attack you'll do a backstep attack unique to those weapon classes.
all classes pretty sure have own movesets to a degree. Katana's for example when you do a visceral have their own little stabbing thing, but think they use generic straight sword back stab, so that is an interesting note.
One more tip, backstabs are easier pivoting from the enemies left side since you'll be using the right hand weapon to backstab, you don't need to be exactly behind the enemy but your weapon does, so you'll get the backstab even when your to the left of the enemy's back. Additional note, daggers and rapiers will have faster backstab animations than other weapons.
I found this out day one by randomly trying to pull off a backstab. I was fishing, and noticed I wasn't fully behind the enemy. Such a cool, and welcome touch to combat. Excellent tip!
I have a question on this mechanic...Do you have to press or hold the light attack button when backstabbing? I find that the backstabbing only works about half of the time for me.
@ 4:45 for poison or rot heres a little tip In a room similar to that dungeon tomb he is in. Turn around with your back to the direction you wanna go and mash the jump back button you use to dodge in fights. You wont roll and will cover distance faster. Work great in rot areas
For video ideas, I imagine making videos about "missable" stuff in different map fragments/areas is something a lot of people would want to see and search for. Your way of presenting stuff and addressing the audience is superb. I remember watching you since the good old Dark Souls 2 meme days, the quality of the channel just keeps going up.
Another tip... if you're really trying to get down somewhere and aren't sure if the fall will kill you or not, go to the edge and attack using a combo that typically advances you (don't press forward, just attack). If the fall is fatal, you'll stop at the edge. If the fall is safe, you'll end up going off the edge.
@@phantaminum630 nah, it works. Unless you use an ash of war, any attack that makes you jump in the air, or an enemy attack pushes you, you won't fall off
I woke up early before work today to play this! I'm 33 and I haven't done that in years. This game has me hooked. Thanks for all the tips! See you around!
In the first legacy dungeon you are supposed to do (the castle) there is an area where a couple of birds throw barrels at you. If you exit the site of grace room and then jump off the edge instantly, you can make it onto the roof of another building and skip a fair amount of the area
Since I've died several times facing the knight after the church, I've passed through these birds enough times to notice something else. When you aggro these birds, the first one will throw its barrel at you then get in position to rush towards you while the second one throws its own barrel. If you avoid the first barrel and then arrange for the second to be thrown on the stairs, you have a good chance to have the first bird touch the range of the explosion and die. With good timing/luck, you can even have both dying at once. The same applies to the third bird at the end of that path, hidden behind a tower and a bunch of explosive barrels. If you advance towards these barrels and go back quickly, the bird will have already started its attack animation, blow the barrels up and die from the explosion. The birds are also pretty frail and hence weak to riposts.
Another tip- I have so many - when you pull up the map, press triangle (ps5) Then press square to quickly travel to the round table- No more dragging the cursor all over the map
I'm pretty sure there's a whole bunch of other cool things you can do in the menu after hitting triangle but I've only ever used it to get back to roundtable quicker XD
Some weapons have a faster r1 sneak attack than their normal r1, flails for example. You can use it if an enemy is low to the ground or if you want to get a quick hit in pvp.
Not just that. Some weapons have completely different crouching R1s. Ex. the Lance gets a wide sweep that's way better for crowd control if you crouch first.
Another little tip - a good use for ruins fragments - a cheap item that can be thrown to make noise (as he mentioned this can be useful for distracting/drawing enemies), or if you hit an enemy directly you can aggro it without aggroing nearby enemies, allowing you to single out enemies from a horde
You can also “sprint” while crouching. It’s not a huge difference and I’m not sure how it impacts stealth, but hitting sprint makes you duck-walk a little faster!
If you play the bandit class like I do and put a good amount of points in dex, you can crouch sprint right up behind any enemy and they won't hear you. (Only lvl 49 atm too)
About the Shield Bounce, that ash of war that enhances your shields reflection capability will cause attacks that normally wouldnt bounce to bounce, another really cool thing about is that you can use its animation to block an attack immediately, like a monster hunter guard point, its really useful for when you get surprised by an attack and dont have time to raise your shield normally.
Another tip for the horse double jump - you can actually use this to juke and trick a lot of enemies off cliffs to their deaths. Learning this trick basically trivializes a lot of the night rider world bosses, you can get 40+k souls at the start of the game this way.
Another tip that I didn't realize until I had put several hours into the game is that you can mark tons of beacons on the map and they are numbered as you place them. So you can leave a very elaborate series of breadcrumbs to help navigate to trickier to reach areas. It helps a lot more than you'd think considering how easy it is to get sidetracked or turned around in the massive world.
I like to leave them as reminders to check an area out later if I'm busy with something else, like when I accidentally stumbled on a Death Bird spawn during the day. For those who don't know, there are some enemies and even bosses who only spawn at night (in the case of enemies it's more like they just spawn in places where they don't during the day, but the bosses can't be found any other way. I won't say where they are, though; you'll have to find that yourselves). Also, a little tip for the stealth lads; if you'd like a cheaper, albeit less accurate and shorter-ranged alternative to arrows or knives for distracting or luring enemies, the "ruin fragment" items that are carried by the wandering nobles or found on crumbling stone structures aren't just crafting materials; they can also be thrown. Great for getting an enemy's aggro and luring them away from their buddies to pick them off, one by one or, if you're a phantom and your host is at low health without any flasks and close to the next Grace, you can aggro any enemies in the way and lead them away. The later is, of course, extremely situational, but any tarnished worth their salt knows that they should have a plan for any situation, no matter how unlikely, and a backup plan, too, just in case. Returning to the subject of the ruin fragments, they're also useful for... not much other then crafting, if we're talking about actually, genuinely useful stuff, but if you're the kind of tarnished who likes doing stupid shit or engaging in dumbassery of the most extreme and absurd kind, you might be able to use them in useless mix ups in pvp, randomly throwing a rock at someone's head to confuse them because why would anyone stop to throw a rock at someone in the middle of a fight to the death, but they also deal an astonishing, mind blowing, dumbfounding, mind boggling, buffoon-flumouxing and game changing 1 damage, and you can carry 999 of them. That's nine hundred and ninety-nine rocks, for 999 damage over the course of the next three years, so if you're thinking of attempting or currently engaged in a consumable-only run, then I have wasted your time because who the hell is going to use this worthless information? Also, it's really funny when you get a boss to one hp and finish them with a rock to the head (if they even have a head), give it a try sometime.
I have another trick: each weapon has another attack animation when pressing R1 while crouching, they're not as strong but usually faster and hit lower if you ever had the problem where you just miss the small enemies
The tip at 5:10 about breaking an enemies stance to stagger them is CLUTCH dude!!! I could not figure out why sometimes I would smack an enemy three or four times and take a ton of damage off, and then, if I died, sometimes I would fight the same enemy immediately after and hit them 10 times and take less hp off them. This was great.
Really great video! I've been avoiding all elden ring content like the plague because I want to experience everything first-hand, but this is exactly the type of stuff I'd like. No spoilers, no visuals from zones I haven't been to, and some really useful info. Also, I've never played a fromsoft game so anything dark souls fans will know innately at this point completely goes over my head. Pointing out those kinds of things (eg ladder mechanics, more info about stats) is really helpful. Thanks!
I like how you don't just assume people already know things from playing dark souls game and also include tips that are probably common knowledge to dark souls players. This game really set a standard for boss fights. Even the mini bosses randomly found around the world have challenging and interesting fight mechanics. Music and sound design of each boss also amazing. Also quality of life improvements to respawn outside the boss area, to quickly retry again rather then having to run back through the area.
These are all of the things I point out when I see people complaining about not playing this because they are scared off by the reputation of Souls games.
First off, thank you for an amazing video. I'm an old dog learning a new trick. At 43 years old this is the first Souls type game I've decided to play. Now I feel like I've been missing out all these years lol. Great video to go with a game that is simply stunning in every way. Best wishes, Iron P.

Regarding the last tip (jumping onto breakable objects), you can jump on the pots (which are breakable, so time it correctly) in the poison floor sections, allowing you to let your meter go down before continuing onward. This is useful when you're starting off naked and don't have enough poison resist to make it all the way in the starting area.
There is an Ash of War you can buy called "no skill" for shields that will allow you to use your weapon art with a shield equipped. Used it with Unsheathe to carry me through the early part of the game.

After a year, I finally found the time to play this massive game. Thanks for the tips! Here's one from me: You can switch between different weapons on horse by holding Y and pressing LB or RB. However, when you dismount from the horse, you'll find yourself in a dual-wielding state, i did not notice that in the early playing as mage,i have to put to staffs on left and right hand😅
What I just noticed today what would've been very useful to know earlier: Skeletons usually revive themselves with this glowing light animation. When you hit them mid-animation, you can actually kill them, so that they won't get up again and you get their runes.
another thing about skeletons, if you use a holy grease (or whatever its called) or enchant your weapon with sacred in some way, that will also kill them for good (and do a heck ton of extra damage against them)
● This particular tip carries over from Dark Souls 3. Some locations feature water deep enough to impede your movement (aka you slow walk), and will sometimes cause poison or scarlet rot buildup until you make it back to dry land. You wont be able to sprint and rolling is not the answer due to the reason he mentioned. The solution is to equip a weapon with the "Quickstep" weapon art and simply quickstep thru the water. Though it uses FP, dont worry if you havent leveled that up, since you can continue to perform quickstep even with an empty FP bar. ● This game punishes you for roll spamming in swamps. Rolling will cause your body to become covered in the toxic liquid, and if this happens you will continue to experience poison build-up even after you have made it to safe ground. Should you find yourself in this situation, it's time to finally make use of that soap you crafted forever ago but never knew what to do with. ● Alot of you guys probably already know this next tip, but I'll say it regardless. The items "Margits/Mohgs Shackle" can be used to reveal illusory walls from a substantial distance away. Useful if you can't remember exactly where a specific hidden wall is, or if there are multiple in close proximity, such as in the Sealed Tunnel. They can also trigger the flame colums you use to destroy the chariots in various Heroes Grave locations (normally you'd have to physically hit it or shoot with an arrow, this lets you safely activate them without having to place yourself in danger. The shackles also work for tripping the little sword traps in Caria Manor, specifically the part up on the battlements with all the blue spectral soldiers. Margits Shackle has more range than Mohgs. The Shackles will NOT clear out the little poison mines utilized by the Vulgar Militia dudes. They will NOT trigger the floating lightning ball things in Siofra/Consecrated. They will NOT trigger the buried giant finger spiders lying in wait to emerge
This helped me get the golden scarab. Couldn't get through the abandoned mine without losing a chunk of my flasks and hp, but I quickstepped through and lost a LOT less of my supplies. Thanks!
Another one: You can ride Torrent through poison or scarlet-rot swamps without suffering status affliction. That one was probably a given, but just in case someone didn't think to try it.
if you didn't know about being able to attack and heal on ladders, it's probably also helpful to know you can drop down from them by double tapping the dodge button
The stone miner enemies in the mines are extremely susceptible to magic. I put the basic magic cast on my sword art and was able to one shot them with only 10 int. Lot easier than melee and makes farming a lot faster.
Minor Horse trick: changing direction mid jump makes Torrent jump every so slightly higher, so if you can’t reach somewhere by straight double jump, try changing direction mid jump, it might be enough to get you up there. (I’m talking a VERY small increase, but it’s often just enough)
Just wanted to say thank you for making these videos. I am 100% a souls/fromsoft newb and have never played these games before so I know NOTHING. I don't understand how ANYTHING works in these games. This is the only video I have watched where things were "Dumbed down" enough for me to understand/learn. If you are interested in making more TIPS/tutorials for beginners I would definitely watch more. I want to learn all about how the game works. What the attributes do? How do I use magic? What do all the controls do? Basic combat tips and tricks. I need the BARE bones, explain everything like its my first time playing a video game because I feel very lost and confused trying to learn how to play. Great video!
Another hidden feature is the DS Curved Sword Kick by pressing the roll button during the charged Heavy Attack animation. Not sure which other weapons has this feature, but it’ll make some interesting combos/ gap closers since you can change directions doing it + do it consistently. Rapiers also have it but with a sweeping back step
I recommend putting the healing potions on your pouch so you can easily hit Triangle/y and a direction to immediately use it. No matter what it's faster and can save you in a tough boss fight.
Thanks for the great tips video! -Apparently when you die in legacy dungeons(dungeons with story related bosses), you loose 30% of your souls when you die. So even if you pick it up again it will have reduced amount. As far as I know this is not mentioned in tutorials so just wanted to add.- edit : Apparently above is not true as @guy incognito says in the comment chain. It is the gatekeeper who is stealing the runes and you can get it back by keeping him. See th-cam.com/video/vdMpo4FSfmk/w-d-xo.html
That's not correct, the 30% lost runes are stolen by the gatekeeper (see th-cam.com/video/vdMpo4FSfmk/w-d-xo.html) if you kill him he drops all the stolen runes and a bell which you can give to the maidens in the roundtable hall to have access to his wares. Edit: And after that you gain all your runes after each death
@@NeuralWraith Thanks fam.Wasn't sure if I was going to lose is wares. I did some searching yesterday noticing I was losing souls ... echos and found out he did that. Did not however find that he drops a bell. Do all merchants drop bells? (haven't yet, castle is kicking my ass)
I think “Wacky Tactics” would be an interesting Elden Ring series where you take on areas in the most outlandish of ways with mis-matching armor, odd weapons, and generally somewhat of a balls-to-the-walls kind of approach. Super exciting everyone seems to be on the same boat with this game being absolutely immense
There is a beast-repellent torch you can buy from a merchant in dragonbarrow (northwest part of Caelid) for only 1,200 runes. It keeps many irritating creatures from attacking you, like rats and wolves. The effect works even if you don't have the required stats, so get it as early as you can. Also the effect works even while riding Torrent. (Doesn't work on bats or those giant birds.)
Also works on the massive dogs in Caelid (a massive lifesaver tbh) and it works against basilisks too so you can run through areas with them relatively safely
Hey fam hope you had a great day! If u can Check out some of my videos and if u like them then subscribe if not then carry on and have good rest of ur day!:) I also make elden ring stuff quite a bit so u might like it:)
If you jump on the spot, and hold Circle/B whilst you're in the air and keep it held: when when you land you'll still be stationary, yet can go straight into a running jump. Really good for some of the platforming areas where you're given little space.
I used this truck in quite a few places to get me into spots I shouldn't have had access too which allowed me to get a +10 bloodhounds fang waaay earlier than I was supposed to lol
3:00 If I'm not mistaken the shield bounce mechanic is pretty much the same as in Dark Souls 1 (and maybe the sequels, but I only have DS1). although it is kinda a hidden mechanic. Btw that dodging by sitting down at 2:53 was absolutely swag Love your vids
A followup for the stance-breaking mechanic: Charged strong attacks definitely break stances quicker, but one neat thing that can be done is right after doing a finisher animation (like a backstab, parry, or stance break attack on an enemy), there is usually a short window of time before they finish getting back up that you can land a charged attack or two. On smaller/faster enemies this isn't as useful, but on huge enemies that take a while to wind up an attack, you can usually land two fully charged attacks on a leg and immediately break their poise again. It is a bit of a double-edged sword if the animation they do right after is one of their faster attacks, but if they do a slow wind-up you can just chain together a second, third, even fourth stance break.
This is extremely prevalent for co-op gameplay, the easiest boss strat is to have one player build Strong Dad who aims to knock down the boss for a crit, the other player gets that, and Strong Dad gets to use the time to get a fully charged heavy attack. Be careful however because enemies do have i-frames as they recover from the backstab
5:55 flail is a great weapon against rock enemies, because with it not even normal attacks bounce back (which makes total sense if you think about it since it's dangling on a chain)
Yes!! My katanas sucked against them and I tried using my black knight flail on them, since thats the purpose of flails and maces, damaging heavy armor. Worked like a charm. Now my main weapon in mines or against crystalized enemies is flails.
This is due to the damage type of Flails, Hammers, and Maces being strike, while other weapons have the Standard, Slash , or Pierce damage type. Enemies with hard skin(like the miners), are weak to strike damage, but resist the others.
Very small tip but a lot don't seem to know about it: when crouched in stealth you can hold sprint to move more quickly and remain in stealth. Bonus little tip: if you are at a merchant and need to use Golden runes for more "souls", you don't have to go into your inventory and use them. You can sell them to the merchant for the same price as if you used them in the inventory screen.
Biggy backing off of this if you want to use a lot of runes faster and don't have a vendor or your lazy like me press r3 in a couple times till you see your character and then use the runes so you don't have to keep opening the menu and going to inventory. Only downside is you can't see how many souls your accumulating while using the runes if that makes sense.
My Tips, learn to use -Auto-lock. Great for single enemies, shooting a bow, or magic. Also good for attacking those glowing Beetle Balls that gives you ash. -When on Horseback use a long reach. Helps with reach. I would prefer Halo Scythe, Blood hound Fang, or a long katana. -how to Hold Both Hands for weapons, Hold Y(Xbox) and press RB or LB. -Use your Quick Menu. Xbox is Hold Y button. Have your Horse, Heath potion, Food for your Horse or/and Magic Potion or Flask equipped on. It makes it easier to find those items faster. -Buy a Torch or Lantern early. Helps for dungeons. There’s more than 1 Torch with different properties. Like seeing Invisible enemies. - Try to use different weapons. So many weapons in the game. You might defeat a hard enemy by just switching to a different weapon. -Helmets will give you different stats. Be on a lookout for them. The silver Chrome helmet will give you Plus 8 Arcane. Some will give Plus 2 strength, Intelligence, Faith or Dexterity. - some Armor will have High “Immunity”. Use it for traveling through Poison or Rot Damage. -Early Game Leveling is “Vitally” is Priority. This will help you out if you’re a new Players. When you get more Runes, Endurance and Strength would be next. The other Stats I would level up on Weapons you want to use. In the Game you can Re-Spec your Stats. But I never did, I kept everything at least 35 or higher so I can use most of the weapons in the game. -Just Explore. Use your Map icons to mark areas. Look for Dungeons, Merchants and maps. Good luck.
@@drphalanges1520 i have tried sneaking past the same groups of enemies sprint sneaking and normal sneaking, and gotten detected while sprint sneaking, but not otherwise.
I would say the horse controls are on par with shadow of the colossus. You have a lot of control, but it's just floaty enough for Torrent to feel like a creature you are riding.
Another kinda useful tip is that two handing your weapon then guarding with it and picking up an item cancels half the animation so running with your weapon guard up drains your stamina but you only have to do it over the item, really useful in grab and go situations
when fighting enemies while standing in poison, jump instead of rolling. Jumping has I-frames and wont cover you in poison. Jumping in combat is good in general as in addition to having I-frames, you can still attack in the air
Jumping has s? I don't think that's right, I've attacked a number of enemies while in the air. I think backsteps have s, like DS 2. It was a mystery why they didn't have them in DS 3.
@Bombadil Squire I wonder if people actually think before they speak nowadays, being able to jump made exploration a million times better. I've spent around 10 hours or more in stormveil castle AFTER killing Godrick just to find every secret and item, and a ton of places I could only get to by parkouring/jumping. I swear to god people are just so eager to shit on games nowadays even when they're fucking incredible
@Bombadil Squire There's literally rewards on top of so many things you can only get to by jumping, though. Also jumping has s and can be very useful in combat.
There's even several cliffs and ledges in caves and elsewhere that you literally have to jump to get up, or gaps to jump across. These aren't hidden paths, these are like main paths and the sincere way to progress in these areas. Jumping is a core part of traversal in this game, even if you personally feel like you don't have a use for it, somehow. Jumping is itself climbing in this game, there doesn't need to be some dedicated "climbing mechanic" to warrant it. You can just jump, like you can just sprint and roll.
speaking of obscure mechanics-- I have played 39 hours since release and I just now figured out that while mounted, you can press triangle + LT to switch to your left handed armament! Like if you have a sword in the right hand and a catalyst or bow in the left, you can switch to it while riding, with triangle + LT. Seems like a pretty big deal to people who like to use catalyst in the left hand, and such
Something I haven’t seen going around you can make gemstone arrows that will light up were ever you shoot. They don’t last forever but has many uses. Like tracking a specific enemy.
Just seen the ending, suggestions: NPC questline videos, secret area videos, funny builds, and I expect many would watch you just stream a playthrough- I would!
Also something I didn't realize because I assumed it as a souls vet, powerstancing. In DS2 you had to have 1.5x the strength requirement of both weapons of the same type to powerstance them. In Elden Ring that is no longer a requirement and I was overjoyed when I found out I didn't need to wait to level up more to do that.
@@ryanrudinger1680 Late reply but yes, powerstancing basically allows you to swing both weapons in one LB/L1 press. Pretty fun to powerstance two colossal weapons.
It's not a tip, it's a trick, literally, Torrent can do a sick BMX stunt trick. When you double-jump with Torrent, the very moment you press X the second time to initiate the double-jump, spin the left stick in a circle as fast as you can and if you do it just right Torrent can do a sweet 360⁰. I've never seen anybody's white ghost doing it so it seems like people don't know it's possible, but I do it all over the place hoping someone will see my white ghost do it and figure out how to do it themselves. Pretty snazzy trick, Torrent! 🐐
@@TheAngryTrapezoid I found that I bounced 1 handing a curved greatsword, but struck true 2 handing. My stats weren't quite high enough at the time to 1 hand it though, so maybe that's why.
@@holyspear26 I'm wrong about the guaranteed no bounce. Strike damage (as opposed to slash) has increased effectiveness against armored/rocky/brittle enemies. So maybe it's just easier to not bounce and I happened to be right at that threshold. The bonus damage is for sure
Fun tip! In case anyone is worried that changing an ash of war on their weapon will make the previous weapon art unusable, don’t worry because you can always change it back. You can also change the scaling of your weapon when applying an ash of war.
I figured the rainbow stone one out on my own while using them to see if a landing spot was right below me or misleading. I'm glad to see you spreading the love. The holding D-pad one I had no idea and that will be so helpful!
That "shield bounce" mechanic has been there since at least Dark Souls 1. I remembered I tried every shield in DkS 1, and found that there are three types of deflection corresponding to each shield class. The only exceptions are the trash shield from the Hollows which has a Light deflection for a Medium shield, and Shiva's shield which has Heavy deflection for a Medium shield. Assuming Elden Ring still uses this system, you may want to read the shields' lore/description which might hint about the shield's deflection level, like what they did with Shiva's shield.
This is actually the first tips & tricks video that i found extra useful and informative. Not the usual, "did you know......(random basic information here" so thank you for paying attention to the details and compiling them
The pouch mechanic is pretty useful for the most used items. Hold Y or Triangle and press a D-pad direction to use that item instantly. Good for Health, FP, Torrent and your mixed flask.
@@dimisbam7725 It's the four slots in the top right of your start menu. I think by default you have Memory of Grace as one of them, just press Triangle or Y to swap each slot.
Using K&M with an MMO mouse with the side button grid, I made macros to use my pouch slots and put them on those, and was able to one button flask (both kinds), mount, and summon. Really made things flow well.
Here's a tip for people new to FS games: If you save and quit during a boss fight you will spawn outside of the boss room. This is useful if you died in the boss fight and just want to retrieve your runes without defeating the boss, I only use this when I know I am way under-leveled/under-geared for a boss and plan to come back later. It's a bit scummy/cheesy to do, so I only use it when I have no other choice.
Just expanding a bit on the sound attracting for enemies: There’s actually an arrow you can use that amplifies the sound and attracts them, if I remember correctly. It’s the Shattershard arrow that you can craft if you have the Nomadic Warrior’s Cookbook [11]
Hey fam hope you had a great day! If u can Check out some of my videos and if u like them then subscribe if not then carry on and have good rest of ur day!:) I also make elden ring stuff quite a bit so u might like it:)
Another horse tip: If you need to turn around on a narrow platform to line up a jump, you can use the telescope! if you just turn left or right without having the scope out, the horse does a little circle that can cause you to fall. But with it out, you can spin on a dime
True! And also if you want to avoid the little circle you can try pulling the movement stick in exactly the opposite direction to where torrent is facing and he should do an in-place 180 animation that's safer
@@Shmethan The spyglass is safer, it forces Torrent to rotate without any movement, whereas the 180 animation actually causes Torrent to move about a bit, I have fallen off of 2 cliffs already because of that
Amazing video as always, amazed how quickly this has come from release! To build off of what he is saying about great shields causing stagger on enemies this actually goes further if the shield has the barricade shield, and even many bosses(mainly of the elite enemy variety) will start staggering!
Also power stancing is back (if you have 2 of the same type of weapon equiped, then you'll attack with both using L1). I've been decimating enemies with dual great swords
One small tip I think you forgot to add is that using soap removes the poison/scarlet rot on your armor preventing more build up after exiting the poison area. It doesn't remove the actual effect if you already are infected.
You can tell if your horse is dead by the symbol for the whistle. If it's combined with a flask it means that your horse is dead and you need to spend one sip of your flask to get your horse back. Also, after you beat Godrick a new room opens up in the Roundtable Hold where you can do boss soul transposition, and the guy in the library will have information for what you can expect from the other demigods.
I can't 100% confirm this yet obviously since the game is only just out, but based on your comment you probably unlock boss soul transfusion after defeating any shardbearer. My friend and I were able to confirm that the trigger to get to the Roundtable is just touching a grace that is on the way to any one of the major shardbearers. He got to the Roundtable by touching the very first grace on the way to Stormveil whereas I got there by touching grace near where I exited Sellia after opening the trapped chest.
@@Ekqo3 Thanks for replying to my comment with more information! It's good to start congregating what we know together as the game starts getting into more hands now that the weekend has come and gone.
Here's another extremely important tip (or rather warning):
*_TORRENT'S DOUBLE JUMP DOES NOT NEGATE FALL DAMAGE_*
Yeah... I heard this from other guys, but after having try it several times, it's fake -.-
@@alexepic3255 Nope. I’ve hurt and even killed myself with fall damage after double jumping a few feet before landing many times.
@@Epicmonk117 that was most likely because that jump wasn’t intended to be survivable. I tested it myself, and the double jump does negate Torrent’s fall damage, if the jump is survivable. If it’s not, then whatever you do, you’ll die anyways.
Learnt early on :P
A brutal lesson it was, Tarnished!
@@laelornith what about YOUR fall damage? You still take fall damage while on Torrent.
Dunno if beginners notice it enough, but the glowing skulls laying around on the ground that you can kick around, can actually be broken for a rune item, 200 runes per pop. Or ran over with Torrent. Super useful early on.
Ya, if you press triangle the same time you run it over with torrent, you will break and pick up the rune without needing to slow down or turn around.
definitely much easier with torrent, you can gallop at full speed over them and spam Y and collect them reliably with no slowing down. these things are suprisingly useful to bank (along with all runes) b/c you can top yourself up to the next level when you are close to dump souls before a boss fight or something that might risk losing your whole pool

I thought that was obvious until I was streaming for a friend to show him an area and he said "Wait, you can hit those things?" Then I was like huh, I guess some people just don't hit everything they see.
if you're on foot, roll over them. much easier than trying to hit them
Another tip: The enemies in the mines carrying the minerals on their backs; They are often weak to fire damage and sometimes even explode with just 1 hit from your torch.
Wish I saw this at the beginning
It's only going to be ones with a cask of some kind on their back. I would be careful of using your torch 😅
Super weak to strike/hammer attacks. Same with the clay dudes in Siofra River.
An explosion doesn't sound like what I want
I'm currently here in the game so will try this out, thanks!
Minor horse tip: if you're having trouble with some trickier parkour sections, invest in the Telescope item. If used on horseback, it will allow you to rotate Torrent in place without the extra forward or backward movement

Thank you! The in-game description is not very clear on this. Also it doesnt really make sense that you craft throwables but still retain the pot. :D
Do you just get the cracked pots back or the whole firebomb/holy bomb/whatever?
@@GreazedPanther just the cracked pots. The other mats used (mushroom, fire butterfly, etc.) are consumed.
@@GreazedPanther just the cracked pot... think of it like a jar in Zelda
The getting coated in poison when rolling in it mechanic was in Dark Souls 2, and for those who don't know- you can use the Soap item to clean that off and stop the build up
I found soap kinda early, and it took me way longer than I'd like to admit to figure this out.

soo good with the uchi art, really lets you use it to counter quickly, or retaliate after blocking.

@@drewsic8351 Yes there are those green balls. You can buy the recipe from that merchant near costal cave to craft them.
You can also buy a 100% physical block shield the moment you get to the roundtable hold.
Also, the common foot soldiers near the beginning drop a brass shield that is 100% block.
In a room similar to that dungeon tomb he is in. Turn around with your back to the direction you wanna go and mash the jump back button you use to dodge in fights. You wont roll and will cover distance faster. Work great in rot areas
What an excellent video. 25 non-spoiler but obscure mechanics that are incredibly useful to know.
Second this. Especially if there’s stuff that could be particularly useful
I have to try this
This seams like a trap xD
@@phantaminum630 nah, it works. Unless you use an ash of war, any attack that makes you jump in the air, or an enemy attack pushes you, you won't fall off

In the first legacy dungeon you are supposed to do (the castle) there is an area where a couple of birds throw barrels at you. If you exit the site of grace room and then jump off the edge instantly, you can make it onto the roof of another building and skip a fair amount of the area
Bless you for this. Those birds suuuuck.
I had more trouble with the knight than the birds, though that might be because I'm using magic mostly
Pro tip. Get some fire arrows. Blow those birds sky high.
If you have a shield the guard counter make the birds fall.
Another tip- I have so many - when you pull up the map, press triangle (ps5)
Then press square to quickly travel to the round table- No more dragging the cursor all over the map

Some weapons have a faster r1 sneak attack than their normal r1, flails for example. You can use it if an enemy is low to the ground or if you want to get a quick hit in pvp.
this has been my saving grace with hooked claws
I've been using the dismounter and it has a super speedy sneaking r1
Colossal Greatswords have a very fast sneaking r1 attack, and it is VERY useful
Same goes with R2 sneak attacks. There are some very useful R2 sneak movesets.
Not just that. Some weapons have completely different crouching R1s. Ex. the Lance gets a wide sweep that's way better for crowd control if you crouch first.
Here is a tip, especially for those trapped in Nokrom, pressing R3 will toggle surface to underground (and vice versa) on the map

Another little tip - a good use for ruins fragments - a cheap item that can be thrown to make noise (as he mentioned this can be useful for distracting/drawing enemies), or if you hit an enemy directly you can aggro it without aggroing nearby enemies, allowing you to single out enemies from a horde
Damn that would've been useful to know sooner, I'm glad I do now thanks!
You can also “sprint” while crouching. It’s not a huge difference and I’m not sure how it impacts stealth, but hitting sprint makes you duck-walk a little faster!
If you roll while crouching you will also stay crouched
From what I can tell, it doesn't impede your stealth at all. You just move faster.
Nah they hear you im afraid i tried it alot and if i crouch normal speed they dont notice me and if i run crouched the have a little faster response
i rely on it alot to travel around new areas.
I love that skill so much, it's OP
The turtle shell shield is so OP for this reason, since it has that Ash of War while also boosting stamina regen.
It helps a lot more than you'd think considering how easy it is to get sidetracked or turned around in the massive world.
....ok?

What I just noticed today what would've been very useful to know earlier:
Skeletons usually revive themselves with this glowing light animation.

Thanks!

Indeed. I do this on those big octopus-like things in swamps or beaches. Very neat and cheesy against them.
Saw a guy do the entirely of Malenia's first phase by abusing that.
He had to switch it up for phase 2, but still cool.
I used this exact tactic to farm the golems one the bridge out towards Godrick's divine tower

Bonus little tip: if you are at a merchant and need to use Golden runes for more "souls", you don't have to go into your inventory and use them. You can sell them to the merchant for the same price as if you used them in the inventory screen.

@Bombadil Squire Climbing vertical surfaces, jesus fucking christ.
Seems like a pretty big deal to people who like to use catalyst in the left hand, and such
Similar, triangle and lb/rb is how you two hand one weapon or the other
What you're actually doing is switching to 2-handed a weapon. Try it off your horse.
Most underrated comment ! works with RT too ! Srsly, N1 !
Something I haven’t seen going around you can make gemstone arrows that will light up were ever you shoot. They don’t last forever but has many uses. Like tracking a specific enemy.
So excited to see the content begin. Iron and Vaati are the 2 soulstubers I am eagerly awaiting every second of video from.
I'm equally excited for those two but I'd like to add Ymfah to the list of future Elden Ring videos.
Time to do a naked power stance dual greatsword build
What exactly is powerstance? When you dual wield same weapons to get the special LB/L1 attacks?
So basically 360 mid air before the second jump right?
With armored enemies like the rock guys, you can swap to a blunt weapon like a mace to avoid bouncing and do more damage
I'm using a curved greatsword and also never bounce off. I didn't even know you could bounce off of them until I watched this
I use the mace. It does bounce off the rock guys. R2s do not bounce off however
@@TheAngryTrapezoid I found that I bounced 1 handing a curved greatsword, but struck true 2 handing.
Yes, we've played Souls games before.
Fun tip! In case anyone is worried that changing an ash of war on their weapon will make the previous weapon art unusable, don’t worry because you can always change it back. You can also change the scaling of your weapon when applying an ash of war.
Could you elaborate on this? I havent used any ashes so far because i thought i might need them later and will be lost if i apply them to weapons lol.
Yeah same, how does it work?
@@xEmpo04 they won’t be lost when used, you can swap between however you like. I’ve been switching them based on the area and/or boss I’m in
@@chadiac101l5 Ooh good stuff, one less thing weighting on my brain lmao. Thanks for the info.

I figured the rainbow stone one out on my own while using them to see if a landing spot was right below me or misleading. I'm glad to see you spreading the love. The holding D-pad one I had no idea and that will be so helpful!
Man I’m loving the hell out of this game!

How do I apply them in the pouch I honestly can't find out
@@dimisbam7725 enter menu and go directly to the right side to the slots to asign them manually. Don't enter the menu options on the left hand side
@@dimisbam7725 It's the four slots in the top right of your start menu. I think by default you have Memory of Grace as one of them, just press Triangle or Y to swap each slot.
Thanks guys
Using K&M with an MMO mouse with the side button grid, I made macros to use my pouch slots and put them on those, and was able to one button flask (both kinds), mount, and summon. Really made things flow well.
Here's a tip for people new to FS games: If you save and quit during a boss fight you will spawn outside of the boss room. This is useful if you died in the boss fight and just want to retrieve your runes without defeating the boss, I only use this when I know I am way under-leveled/under-geared for a boss and plan to come back later. It's a bit scummy/cheesy to do, so I only use it when I have no other choice.
killed me and soon as I loaded my game. bad advice
@@hyakugame What boss? It has to be a boss that has a mist gate
Just expanding a bit on the sound attracting for enemies:
There’s actually an arrow you can use that amplifies the sound and attracts them, if I remember correctly. It’s the Shattershard arrow that you can craft if you have the Nomadic Warrior’s Cookbook [11]
I tried to shoot with them around some enemies, they even don't notice )
The barrage skill is really useful for enemies that try to overwhelm you with quick attacks like the human spider thing in Stormveil castle.
Hes had this full game for months dude.
Damn, only halfway through and there's already so much helpful stuff here. Thanks man
Also power stancing is back (if you have 2 of the same type of weapon equiped, then you'll attack with both using L1). I've been decimating enemies with dual great swords
Another tip would be that jumping is really good for dodge as well
He helps in dodging those low spweps and ground aoe attacks.
Sekiro flashbacks intensify
We have all played Sekiro dude.
@@ezrasilver9819 I didn't get to roundtable until defeating margit, aside from that one, the conditions aren't very well understood right now afaik
@@Ekqo3 Thanks for replying to my comment with more information! It's good to start congregating what we know together as the game starts getting into more hands now that the weekend has come and gone.
