I literally made a new character cuz my first character was a sorcerer and I felt like rock sling/glintstone arc/glintstone pebble + meteorite staff were trivializing the game too much
Granted I got 20 hours in, with only one shard bearer killed so maybe it would’ve gotten harder as a sorcerer

@@Lachy314 I'm doing a battle mage build (40 hours thus far) and I've had some bosses that I flattened easily and others that destroyed me in the blink of an eye multiple times. I like the balance that I'm experiencing because some aspects of the game are easier and then at other times I'll get my butt handed to me over and over again while I try to figure out the boss. It's a nice balance. But I must say, doing a build like this is super tempting.

@@ZeigMeister Right, because it's totally reasonable for a pure Str glass cannon dual wielding massive ultra greatswords to be rendered obsolete by every magic build in the game. Magic will likely be nerfed, with a full build, everything is trivialized. That doesn't mean it has to be nerfed into the ground, but Azur Comet should probably be a bit less accessible in a boss fight. Maybe if they just give it a longer cast time, or slower damage ticks.
Friendly reminder tho, it's all fun and games, and you really shouldn't be that pressed whether the meta changes or not. I've been playing sword-and-board since day 1, just because it's what I find to be the most fun. That doesn't mean I have anything against magic, and it certainly doesn't mean I'm a "loser." Magic is probably getting nerfed within a few months. Sorry to break the news. Fromsoft is usually really slow with this sort of thing. Don't take it out on me.

Bad news everyone, the 1.04 patch shot a crucial part of this build in the foot. The infinite fp tear now only lasts 5 seconds instead of the 10-15 it used to be, meaning comet azur can’t be used like it was before.
Update: I mistakingly thought that the shortened duration was intentional, turns out that wasn’t supposed to happen. Even then, until it’s reverted this build will be much less effective.
Update#2: The infinite fp tear is back to it’s full glory, everyone.

In case you didn't know, you can dual-wield staves and get the bonuses from both. For example, use your +10 staff in one hand to use its magic scaling and keep the meteorite staff in your other hand to boost rock sling. In the same vein, you can keep a glinstone based staff in your other hand to boost the lil' swords. It's a very noticeable damage increase at basically no-cost and far far less annoying than switching to the jelly shield for that boost.

You have to break their cyrstal armour/poise, once they're staggered and available for a critical hit, they take a lot more damage. 3 heavy attacks from the Morningstar will also break their poise. There's also a Crystal Tear that boosts charged attack damage and one that makes attacks more likely to break poise, these two helped carry me through the Triple Crystalian in Sellia Hidden Cave, and also using the Crystallian Summon you get the the same place. Guard counters also work, because they're slow and don't hit very hard. Just need to take them out one at a time.

Rot works on nearly every boss in the game, even tons of them you'd think would be immune, and adds up to about 40% of their total hp over it's duration. Got me kills on bosses I had no business fighting at my level, by applying it with some careful shield pokes and then just running away. The best part is, the rapier accepts ashes, so you can give it poison or bleed affinity as well, and a really good weapon art.

Frost/Bleed in general is busted for PvP. Frost makes them take more damage from all sources and Bleed just takes a huge chunk of health all at once, not including the damage of the initial hit.
You can one shot in PvP if bleed procs on a heavy after you frost them.
The stomp, hilariously, has an effective counter. Jump attack. You see them wind up to stomp? Jump attack. Free damage and they can't hurt you with it. Can't dodge out of the stomp animation so they just have to take the hit

One very important note, that very few people seem to know about, and could be worth restarting your game, is that you can repeatedly kill the sleeping dragon for infinite runes without killing a single boss or even enemy. 50,000 a pop right off the bat, or 70,000 with the golden scarab, which requires killing a boss.
However, the foot will not work with this trick. What you need to do is get the dragon down to almost no health, then summon torrent for the last few hits so you can move quickly, as soon as the final blow is struck, you need to haul ass back to the site of grace in less than 10 seconds, immediately rest, and if done correctly, you will get all the runes and the dragon will not despawn. This is working as of January 13th, 2023. Even at the very beginning of the game you should be able to kill the dragon in about 10 minutes, worst case scenario, probably less. But lets just say 10 minutes. 10 minutes = 50,000-70,000 souls, so 50,000 -70,000 x 6 = 300,000-420,000 per hour. A bit later in the game you can spec your stats into a strong bleed build and get this down to about 2 minutes, I've been able to get 5,000,000-6,000,000 souls per hour using this trick and after some practice, I can reach the grace every time. After you get to the desired level, simply respec your stats back to your desired build.
So as you can imagine, given that you can do this at most characters starting level, fighting no bosses at all, you can get to a very high level early, get strong enough to get the ability to respec early and collect bleed spells and items to hasten the process, kill the dragon over and over and reach the 125 meta in an afternoon, instead of weeks. Stock up on some tears and you can try out a bunch of different weapons and builds in a single playthrough early if you want to see what kind of character you like best and then progress your journey. I really wish I knew this my first time playing.
Just be sure to back up your save before killing the dragon, so if you mess up the timing, you are not screwed. This is simple on the PC and PS (via cloud save or usb), however, Xbox users are pretty much out of luck and need to get it perfect every time unless you can close the app before auto save. Cheers.

It's huge though, and if you wanna find the good stuff, there's many good walkthroughs on TH-cam. Some spoiler free that are just for items. My greatest tip to someone that never played a FromSoftWare game before would be to understand character builds in the Souls series before playing. You wanna pick a playstyle you like early on, like do u wanna be a mage and cast spells? Do you wanna be a warrior that uses heavy melee weapons to smash people up close, or be a priest that can heal and throw bolts of lightning and breathe fire? Once you know your preferred character, only put stat points into strength or dex for melee, for mages all intelligence, etc, etc. You wanna plan from the very beginning of the game exactly where you want your final numbers to be at level 137 (community meta level). Seriously use a calculator and plan out your build before you get serious into the game. This is where 99% of rage quitters and people that get frustrated have their issues. You can look up character builds online to get ideas.
My last character was a mage (aka easy mode). Stats 40 vig, 30 mind, 20 endurance, 12 str, 18 dex, 80 intelligence. Level 137 meta. Planned the numbers before even playing. Was a breeze and an amazing adventure. Never completely kill that dragon and you can level to your hearts content. Good luck and enjoy!

Main one is called "Elden Ring Strength Build Guide - How to Build a Colossus Guardian (Level 100 Guide)" by Fextralife.

My experience with this build: it's really tough to actually setup the one shot on some foes, the build itself tends to be very squishy until higher levels, and your quality of life outside of boss fights depends heavily on picking up good side spells like you showed in the video. Those other two spells, especially rock sling, are a big deal for exactly the reasons shown.
For me personally, a faith build with blasphemous blade, erdtree blessing, lord's heal, and the mimic summon is more powerful and diverse, able to take on more targets more easily. But I would say this build is one of the easiest ways to cheese the first half of the game until you get up to the point that you're ready to go after blasphemous blade and the mimic summon.

Just a reality check for noobs like me----I'm 17 hours in and I have JUST completed the full combo with a +6 staff and tear combo (I still need to upgrade more and don't have the extras). It takes a LONG time. Also, you can't go around spamming this combo. You get ONE SHOT for 10 SECONDS after you drink the elixir, and after that you have to rest again. So you can't go around spamming this and killing everything in your path. You can still cast it, but it will only last a few seconds. And if the bad guy moves, you miss. I don't regret committing to this combo, but as I noob, I had a more OP expectation of what I was getting into. The video makes it look faster and easier than what it is (still appreciated though). Some of the bosses are pretty damn tough (Ulcerated tree spirit) and I looked up cheeses (which were still hard). Granted this is my first ever playthrough (after ditching a level 65 colossal sword guy), so a lot of this could be me learning the game.

Honestly great magic build and guide - was a blast to test. You're the man when it comes to this kinda stuff, Iron Pineapple.
If I could give constructive criticism to your guide,I think you should've elaborated on the points taken to get to these locations though using the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc waypoints ingame rather than just directly cutting and teleporting to said areas (Fastforward X## would work nice). Most of it was self explanatory so there was no need and the cuts were fine, but some of it is a little confusing. Even for a souls veteran like myself especially navigating around Volcano Manor was a nightmare looking for something very particular when you're unfamiliar with the zone entirely and also without a map until reaching near the destination. Just soooooo many elevations.

Yeah I'm not sure what people are talking about when they say this is a bad guide or does not work, saying it got nerfed out of existence. It did get nerfed, thats for sure, but it still works. I still was able to kill Radahn in a single cast. And even bosses that it does not completely kill, it usually takes them down to maybe 20% or less of their entire health pool, I dunno guys, I would say that's pretty damn good. As for the guide sucking, I hear you, he did not go into great detail, however, he did mention all the items needed, therefore, all you have to do is google each of those items and you can find "very detailed" guides online on how to obtain all of them. Personally I would rather do that than have to sit through an entire hour long video of how to make this build come together. I mean sure, he could have done that, and then time stamped everything out, that would have been cool, but would have also been very challenging for the content creator that maybe does not have that kind of time on his hands, who knows?
Point is, he tells you everything you need to pull this off, because of the internet you can find detailed guides on how to get everything without issue, and the nerf to this method still either outright kills slow or distracted bosses, or ticks off 75-80% of their entire health pool in a single attack if properly connecting. I've test this on every boss in the game, and when I was able to connect fully, at worst they only had 25% health left tops. At which point you have all your estus left aside from a single blue one. If you can't kill an incredibly weaken boss with all your tools intact at that point, you are doing something else wrong. Sorry, I simply can't help myself but say, you gotta GIT GUD. Couldn't help it.

@@lordmuhehe4605 Pretty much, people really don't realize that the majority of spells that INT builds can use are complete trash. About 25% are useable, the rest are a joke. The Sword of Night and Flame is also basically Comet Azur on a budget, and actually better against the more powerful bosses due to cast time and damage output in said timespan. Not to mention spammability, due to low mana cost. Infinite Comet is obviously really powerful cheese, but it hard falls off at the end.
Here's to hoping they don't nerf it, otherwise playing INT builds will be a joke. It's already 90% Glinstone Pebble and Arc spam, with a side of Moonveil Katana or respec.

As sweet as this guide is, it feels like it's missing a lot of details. I often had to pause, google where you were talking about, then start again. Example: 2:45 you talk about a path where we don't need to fight any bosses, but you don't even show us on the map where that path is, leaving us to find out for ourselves where that is.
Same at 2:23, you mention ''right next to it'' you can find the rock spell, but that is actually in a cave you have to find north of that area, and you don't show where it's at on the map.
    Just some feedback.

Another quick way to get more runes is rushing Godrick, then proceeding with Varre's quest, getting an item which teleports you to a [redacted] place, running to the first bonfire of that place and farming little frog-alien people there. I usually do this right after the bleeding-the-dragon strat. After that, you can get 1/2 upgrade material bell in a cave in Liurnia, 3/4 upgrade material bell in Atlus Plateau (and you can get there by using the medallion which you find in Fort Faroth near the big dragon and another half in Limgrave, or go through the caves and fight another boss). At this point you've got +12 and can rush the two bosses in the Royal Capital and go pick up the bell with 5/6 smithing shards in the unlocked area. This makes making PvP characters quite fast, can get this all done in under 4 hours and I'm no speedrunner. The only annoying part is grabbing golden seeds & sacred tears.

The dragon levelling trick is easily boosted by the scarab but also try to kill it while there are Erdtree leaves falling: it further boosts your rune amount.
The scarab is easy to get, since you just need a knife to sidestep through the rot in that dungeon, and the bosses can't properly hit your wolf summons, so it can be easy.

My only complaint about this video is the fact that some of the spots you say we can just go to and grab the item in question, it's way more complicated than I realized. Specifically the cave in Caelid that has the Golden Scarab talisman. A simple heads up that you need something that can undo the effect of scarlet rot would have come in really handy and it ended up costing me 7,000 runes because I didn't know that going into it. Other than that, I've been following this guide and it's working well so far. Just have to find enough runes now to get my intelligence stat high enough to cast Comet Azur. Great work, as usual.

Excellent quick start guide! However, I strongly recommend that when you are grinding runes for that 60 int to go to Mohgwyn Palace and farm the bird at the Palace Approach Ledge Road site of grace. For the cost of buying the starter bow and using one arrow per kill you get about 13k runes. Then rest at the grace, shoot it again and repeat. 100k+ runes in no time at all. And the small quest chain to get there is relatively simple considering how much dmg you already do following this guide here!
On top of that as an added bonus you can also jump over the wall next to the boss fog and get a free kill netting about 400k extra runes and the boss won't even fight back because he only triggers if you go through the fog.

Of vourse I have exagerated your line of tought, but deciding to search for better equipment/farm to fight a boss is in the spirit of the game, you shouldn't force yourself into a struggle, you should test your skill trough the build you created, learning movesets of a boss is the dame as learning how to work with a build or with limited materials, so is not cheatimg to find another, more comfortable, way to kill a boss.

I realized early in the game that the player makes the game hard, if you are stuck and stressed on a hard boss just back up and do other stuff, farm some enemies, try another weapon, you can summon players to help you or just close the game and take a break.
Elden ring unlike the other souls games has more options to make you feel powerful and just it takes a few more hours to achieve something that seemed impossible to you a few hours ago.

Sworn by them since the game's come out. It almost upsets me that the game gives you more Attunement Slots for spells without stat investment, I feel obligated to use them but there's generally just not as much use for anything but the two go-tos.

As a str/faith build, I have a bunch of spells in my rotation that get regular use. You get buffs, heals, single target, AOEs, different status procs like rot, and some melee mix-ups/rush down incantations. Even though it's awkward to cycle through that many spells mid combat, I almost feel like I could use even more spell slots even though I'm already at like 7/8 slots. And almost all of my incantations get semi-regular use, with a few that are obviously a bit more situational (clearing off poison/rot with "Flame Cleanse Me," for example)
I've always played a big strong brute in every previous From Software game that I've played, but I'm actually really liking the spellcasting in this game and I'm really liking my hybrid faith/str build.
Edit: It's also nice having some situational spells equipped for once you get the mimic summon. I will rarely use my heal spell over a flask, but since the spell heals all nearby friendly characters you can sometimes get your summon to give you some free healing, as well as just having them sustain themselves and stay alive since your mimic doesn't get any of your flasks.

Comet Azur takes 3 Memory Slots, and if you're using the Mimic Tear as a magic user, it'll also use the available spells as required. But having a few strong, situational spells seems like a better choice for it, to reduce time wasted in casting weaker ones. Playing a hybrid build with the Mimic Tear is super fun, he can tank the cheesy bosses while I damage from afar, or vice-versa whenever I feel like kicking some ass.
