    I did many of these jobs on my '05 R1 a couple years back. Simple, fun, effective maintenance jobs. Get all your new materials and tools ready and have at it. Bike runs like new afterwards. Very satisfying.

  • @drew657

    Glad you're doing maintenance on this bike. I see so many people buy an old cheap bike and refuse to swap the fluids or buy new tires or brakes because the bike was so cheap. This will make that bike last so much longer for you or whoever ends up with it, and be soooo much safer. Been working on the same for 2 SV650's this year. Great work, man.

    I just bought a showroom condition 929rr with 5k miles, full TB exhaust, PC III, stabalizer ect. Put about 100 miles on it in the past week and am amazed at how well built it is. Handles so well and unbelievable power. Still keeping my eye out for a 954rr but all the ones i've seen are junkers. Love the early 2000 CBR's! Your channel was the reason I bought the 929rr!

    I have a soft spot for this series. Watched every episode. This is great. It makes me want to tackle one of these CBR900RR's I see with relatively low miles that aren't exactly pretty to look at here in my area of Pittsburgh. I mean lets face it, 80% of the bike looking great is the plastic. I love the 93' and 94' dual round headlights of the 900's.

    Bike rebuilding (or maintanence) hack: MANY modern sport bikes use that exact Nissan rear caliper. If you need new pads or there's something wrong with your current caliper, buy a used one on eBay. They're usually less than 10 dollars shipped.

  • @jeffruebens8355
    @jeffruebens8355 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I admire the amount of work you put in fixing the wiring- it is often something simple, in this case the kill switch that had the hundred dolla an hour hacks stumped. I would ride it 2 months, then change the coolant to Cyclelogic Engine Ice and the recommended amount of distilled water. My thinking is you want better coolant than stock in case the old water pump or oil pump start to fail. See the FortNine videos for tires. He recommends gear oil for chains- I prefer Fluid Film spray from Lowes because a spray can is easier. If the sprockets still look good, I would assume the previous owners ran the chain dry and it might be a good idea to add a new chain to the stock sprockets. In order of quality, it seems to be DID or EK x-ring, then any x-ring, then any O-ring, and Parts Unlimited is a good brand for the price- one of my bikes has this chain as the second on the original sprockets and it has held up well. The Canyon Chasers web site is a good source for chain info. For oil, I like full synthetic for how smooth it shifts and how long it lasts, however a worn clutch will need to be replaced sooner and always feels like it slips more. My compromise is half Valvoline full synthetic 10w-40 motorcycle oil, and half Valvoline regular 20w-50 motorcycle oil from Walmart. For most Japanese bikes other than oddball Suzukis, the oil filter for a 2011 Mazda RX-8 fits. See the Calsci.com website about motorcycle oil filters.

    I like the FireBlade, I would use it for race track, driving the hell out of it. For daily use, Blackbird beats its easily. The Blackbird has the weight disadvantage and others for track use, but off course it is designed for different purpose. I recognize some similarities though.
    Honda should have continued the Blackbird product line!
