Why this has to be done? When you install it back you have to unlock it anyway with a tool thru whole in 22mm cap

Because the aluminum threads on the cap that is screwed back in will not handle the added stress of the tension and could possibly strip the threads on the cap. I did however think along the same lines you have but through my research aluminum does not do well on aluminum. And the engine case is also aluminum 👍💪❤️

@@motohead5319 Make sense thanks - did you set up engine in TDC? What is a easiest way to do it when you are not removing to of engine? I thought to take spark plug out and poke pencil thru it ; )

You can do it that way using a pencil. But there is a bolt you can remove on the left side of the bike to stick a 5 mm Allen wrench into which also finds top dead center, which is the method I used.
What do you plan on doing?

@@motohead5319 Where is that bolt exactly? My engine start to rattle more than usual - I compared it to friend 701 and his is way quieter. I have ordered manual tensioner from 3DMotoPL but for now I want to try to maybe take OEM out - clean it of old oil and reset it back in.

It’s exactly 90 mm from the lower left oil filter cover bolt on my 2020 sm.
You can reference page 260 of the repair manual and see for your self before attempting it.
A lot of guys are using Motul 7100 10-60.
It has less engine rattle on my bike. It actually sounds pretty quiet 👍
