    This is part one of a reading of the Anglo Saxon Chronicle, I am going to be doing it in perhaps 8 different parts over the next few weeks, then compiling it all into one video. Here is a link to the original work: www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/657/pg657-images.html

    Hello, love your vids! I was wondering if you were interested in covering the history of the Kingdom of Asturias, it would be very interesting, IMO.

    Primary documents are fascinating. It is interesting to see what people considered important enough to record. Today, humanity pumps out billions of words a day, all primary sources. We write facts, opinions, counter opinions, and a remarkable amount of fiction. I wonder if some future historian will read from our works here and try to decipher our world from the words we leave behind.
    Also, this makes me smile a bit. I think I see a bit of stylistic plagerism between the early Chronicles and parts of the Old Testament.

      It's what is often call a universal history, that's why it seems a bit like the Bible as this was a process of writing with relation to the history they know from the Bible :)

    Im always a little unsure when you see the title, 'Great to fall asleep to'. If im creating content, the very last thing i want is to send my listeners to sleep! Not that you see this with this video, just a general comment about videos similar to this.What you're basically saying is, great video, essentially boring as hell! Again not this one just videos similar to this! 😅😅😅

    Also I hate to be this guy haha but you are so actuate all the time I don’t want someone saying this is a bad video the fact you mentioned in the first min with the first Britons were from Armenia is actually a common misconception Armenia is a mistranslation of “Armorica” which is a region in France being I think modern brittany

    • @ASMR_Historian
      @ASMR_Historian  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      Yes, I am aware, but this is not my work, it's a direct reading from the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle. I know of the Armorica/Armenia issue, but in keeping faithful to the original text I don't want to change anything. I point the finger at the Saxon writer of yesteryear for any inconsistencies, I will also be blaming him for several other personal shortcomings unrelated to the text, I know that his spirit can bear it.
      Also good to see you in the comments again.

    • @ASMR_Historian
      @ASMR_Historian  5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      It is a direct reading of the text as it is written. As it goes on its less cumbersome, since each year has more detail.

    I can hear the pagan scientists scoffing at the idea that the world began 5200 years before Jesus, God confounds the learned, carbon dating could very well be a cult myth, Christian geologists have suggestedthat the earth could be as young as these chronicles say...there's a movement toward a more ancient, faith based world view afoot

    This ain't it, chief.... "Kolwulfe of Kent reigned for 30 winters succeeded by Beowulf who reigned 1 year succeeded by...." That was the craziest thing I've heard, and I had to push my sleep-mask up, throw the blanket off, get up, walk to the computer and type this out before I now switch the video. This is very lazy, super uninteresting, and not pleasant to listen to.

    • @ASMR_Historian

      I thought it was very obvious form the outset that this is a reading of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, which is not my original work. You may want to direct your complaints to the authors who have been dead for the last 1000 or so years.
      I am not going to change the wording of a primary source to make it more entertaining for modern audiences, it remains exactly as it was written.

      Your comment ain’t it, chief… this isn’t intended to be an accurate, detailed historical analysis based on modern sources. This is a reading of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, which was written around the 890’s. It is actually very interesting to hear how the perspective on history has changed since this was written.
