I always loved Luigi's Mansion, how Luigi turns every doorknob slowly, you can tell how scared he is, as his shivering hand slowly turns a knob, every door, detailed and different, beautiful, mastapeece
meanwhile the loading screens in luigis mansion 3 are just a picture of polterpup running with the words "loading" underneath it or luigi standing in an elevator with absolutely nothing to do. don't get me wrong, luigis mansion 3 is definitely a mastapeece too but they really copped out of the loading screens :(
and it was consistent from the lore standpoint, since it's the Animus loading, pal, so just wait a bit til the world simulation is done complete AC 1-2/2.1/2.2 were neat, miss those days
It's actually quite rare to give such patents, but I guess the people who decided that this is fine didn't know or care much about gaming or computer programs. That or they were bribed. Usually you have to describe it in detail. Just a model which is a rough outline isn't sufficient. A competitor has to be able to copy your invention, just by using the provided information. That's the whole point in patents: To make the invention public and reproducable and encourage innovations.
Don't forget the loading screens in Metro: Last Light, which are the only times you hear Artyom's voice throughout the game, and actually get his insight on what's happening.
Man metro is one of the best FPS in years , the developers have done an amazing amount of Effort , I love metro , I have the redux collection on PS4 and it is so good ,I can nor wait for the new METRO game Exodus , I rank this as the best FPS franchises along side Doom , Wolfenstein new order and old blood , Shadow warrior reboot and 2 , Half life 2 and that RE classic DOOR Opening is so Nostalgic and great .

On my 10th playthrough right now , I love Exodus , The game is fantastic , a lot of customizations for the weapons , Upgrades for armor and equipments , though my gripe with it is the reduced number of weapons in comparison to last light , and i needed more linear levels and some polish to the game , but overall a phenomenal rare FPS experience in today gaming , Artomy ending when he found a place for him and his fellow Spartans to live in was predictable but it's a good ending , I hope that this is not the last Metro game since there are more to the books and novels .
Fun fact: Back in the PS2 days Sony required their first party developers to have all their games be seamless. This meant all loading screens would need to be hidden. Examples of this are the _loading rooms_ in *Jak and Daxter* and the space flight cinematics in *Ratchet & Clank*
I'm surprised he didn't bring up Jak and Daxter considering it was the first truly open-world 3D video game. The first game loaded areas seamlessly and you could literally see across the entire world. I figure it managed this so well because of the low resolution of the game combined with the relatively high power of the PS2 and there were very few areas that would be obvious loading areas. The later games hid this by using decontamination chambers and doors presumably because of the vastly increased scale and improved graphical resolution. Ratchet & Clank had smaller areas but the space travel screens still felt like the game was active while loading new screens.
The loading screens on the Dragon Ball Budokai Games were freaking good. You mashed buttons to make Goku eat, makes Vegeta do push ups, make those little green guys appear all over the screen, those were all pretty fun.
The Metroid Prime loading screens were pretty cool, like disguising them as elevator rides which kept the tension up and also tricks like preloading upcoming rooms and giving you small "pointless" rooms to explore which gave the game a little more time to preload bigger upcoming areas and stuff.

Nathan Black but as soon as the loading was done you could skip. Even when speedrunning you can't skip loading times. It made the cutscenes feel more fluent to the gameplay.
i love the Resident Evil Outbreak loading Screen. Its just a Black Screen which says in which room you are going but the special thing is that the Music which is playing is just the heart beat of your Charakter. If you are hurt it will go faster. Its so minimalistic but gives alot of Information

The original star Wars battlefront had some awesome loading screens. Where they "showed you where your match was played" by zooming in on the Galaxy map and the planets before transitioning to the class selection screen.
I always liked The Evil Within loading screens. Sure, it was basically a still image, but you could notice small changes in the environment as it loaded, and it was quite creepy.
Another notable loading screen is “traveling” loading screens- for example, a lot of sci-fi games use Hyperspace jumps as loading screens (think Elite Dangerous or No Man’s Sky)
I think the sims 3's loading screen is also worth a mention, you were given an image and then had to find objects from there while the game loaded, and you'd get a bonus if you found them as well!

of course not. in what way could they possibly benefit from it?? the only way i can think of that happening is if they promoted their game around the fact you can play a minigame while waiting for the normal game and then every sees that and goes "oh wow i have to buy this game now because no other game has this and it's such an important feature!!" but that would never fucking happen, so no they didn't benefit whatsoever. they just spent a bunch of money to make every other companies game slightly worse. what a dick move.
Yep, the MC jumping during dungeon exploration was cool as heck, but the train and walking loading screens in the city are the best. Specially when they also show you which characters are in the place you are arriving to. But yeah, the art direction of the game itself is amazing. As I heard someone say, this game has more love and effort put into its menus than most recent games have in all of their development.

gta iv had the best loading screen and still do the music was very anticipating and felt great gta v loading screen looks good but lacks that anticipating feeling with the music on there or maybe it's just nostalgia I'm feeling right now?

More recent titles from COD single player had excellent loading screens with mission briefings in them. It kept the player engaged without being pointless.
I don't know if this counts, but I remember the aim training map on Call of Duty Advanced Warfare. I would make my class and wait for other people to join/make their class/choose the game mode. In waiting, I was able to challenge other people who were waiting to try to get a better time. I miss that game.
HyperGaming it got the hate because of the "pay to win" concept that it brought to a game with supply drops. It also drastically changed the pace of COD.

The Lost Planet games had some fun little loading screen mini games. In the first game the loading message was a gun you could shoot thermal energy & grenades out of. In the second game you could run around in a big empty room with an npc, and if you'd taunt the bot it would taunt back lol. Finally the game would load and you'd get back to playing the gem that is Lost Planet
While the section about reading screens was playing. I was thinking about zelda botw. To see it come up listed as Zelder Scrolls was the height of comedy in that one moment.

Skyrim’s loading screen is my favourite honestly, just being able to admire a cool model along with learning some lore or getting tips is just perfect.
Love this video. Loading screens are typically looked at as annoying road blocks from us playing the game we want to play. A HUGE benefit of advancing technology is that the PS5/Xbox One X are able to do away with most loading screens entirely. But this video really shows that not all loading screens have to suck, and it's a little sad that we'll eventually reach a day where there are no loading screens. A lot of this shit was super cool.
Another game that uses seemless loading screens is Firewatch. It loads the entire next area as you climb down some rocks and the dialogue between the characters keeps it from being boring
When i used to play rayman with my friends during the loading screens we tried to get to the end of the loading zone and we made a game out of a loading screen, suck that namco
It's cool coming back to this video after I played Superliminal because the game has all kinds of unconventional choices, between gameplay and world building, that even the LOADING SCREEN can be fun. Sure you don't have any buttons to press, there's not an easy category to group it into, but the way it plays around with it's loading animations like 1000% or stretching the bar off screen deserves an honorable mention. It got a chuckle out of me every time a new area loaded while also making me question if the game was up to no good again (very hard to trust it after the blackout level but eventually went back to good clean fun).

of course not. in what way could they possibly benefit from it?? the only way i can think of that happening is if they promoted their game around the fact you can play a minigame while waiting for the normal game and then every sees that and goes "oh wow i have to buy this game now because no other game has this and it's such an important feature!!" but that would never fucking happen, so no they didn't benefit whatsoever. they just spent a bunch of money to make every other companies game slightly worse. what a dick move.

Yep, the MC jumping during dungeon exploration was cool as heck, but the train and walking loading screens in the city are the best. Specially when they also show you which characters are in the place you are arriving to.
But yeah, the art direction of the game itself is amazing. As I heard someone say, this game has more love and effort put into its menus than most recent games have in all of their development.

gta iv had the best loading screen and still do the music was very anticipating and felt great gta v loading screen looks good but lacks that anticipating feeling with the music on there or maybe it's just nostalgia I'm feeling right now?

I would make my class and wait for other people to join/make their class/choose the game mode. In waiting, I was able to challenge other people who were waiting to try to get a better time.

I'm surprised for interactive loading screens you didn't add in the dragon ball game ( I forget the name of it) one. Where if you spun the analog sticks you would eat raman and dig up Shamoians best loading screen I can remember atm, I think my highest was like 60.

The Lost Planet games had some fun little loading screen mini games. In the first game the loading message was a gun you could shoot thermal energy & grenades out of. In the second game you could run around in a big empty room with an npc, and if you'd taunt the bot it would taunt back lol. Finally the game would load and you'd get back to playing the gem that is Lost Planet
Red Dead Revolver has my favorite loading screens. That whole game is the perfect mix of action, blood, and campiness.

Love this video. Loading screens are typically looked at as annoying road blocks from us playing the game we want to play. A HUGE benefit of advancing technology is that the PS5/Xbox One X are able to do away with most loading screens entirely.
But this video really shows that not all loading screens have to suck, and it's a little sad that we'll eventually reach a day where there are no loading screens. A lot of this shit was super cool.

Another game that uses seemless loading screens is Firewatch. It loads the entire next area as you climb down some rocks and the dialogue between the characters keeps it from being boring
Sadly, the game was a fucking walking simulator (which doesn't bother me that much, really) and its ending was a huge letdown.
When i used to play rayman with my friends during the loading screens we tried to get to the end of the loading zone and we made a game out of a loading screen, suck that namco

It's cool coming back to this video after I played Superliminal because the game has all kinds of unconventional choices, between gameplay and world building, that even the LOADING SCREEN can be fun. Sure you don't have any buttons to press, there's not an easy category to group it into, but the way it plays around with it's loading animations like 1000% or stretching the bar off screen deserves an honorable mention. It got a chuckle out of me every time a new area loaded while also making me question if the game was up to no good again (very hard to trust it after the blackout level but eventually went back to good clean fun).
