It created a world that had rules and was detailed enough to be its own thing but also be ambiguous and mysterious enough to allow players and viewers to imprint their own imaginings upon it. It was fun enough to hold our attention but beautiful enough to foster our imaginations. At least it was for me. Mah favorite level is the one the one where you chase after a giant robot beetle that shot you outta the sky, in a tank, then go through a big ass tunnel to a truck with a kickass cannon on the back with the BADADADAAAAAAAA going all up in your head Then you find all your space marine pals holed up in a buildin, then the giant robot beetle demon shows up and you gotta race it to a bridge so you can ambush its teeny beetle bros and blow it up from the inside using a rocket launcher and a laser sword. When I was in 8th grade, I downloaded the Halo: Combat Evolved free multiplayer demo (believe there is one still available at softonic but I'm not sure if the online servers would still be usable) on the computer I sat at in computer class and told like 3 other classmates how to get by the download/access restrictions the school had set on the computers... A week later, my entire class has the demo downloaded and we're practically all playing multiplayer matches of Halo when the teacher is at the front of the class. Surprisingly online matches did in fact work on the school PC's which was fun on it's own... But the local matches we had within the class on the school network was something else. So many good memories, even with the single map we had to play over and over. This was quite a long time after it was released; it wasn't like the game was new or anything, and yet over 26 people in one little room found profound enjoyment from what was simply a demo with a single multiplayer map. We had a fuckin' blast.
One of my friends prob had a cool guy of a brother and got all of us copies of what I assume was a cracked version, fuckin lost that CD somewhere but man were those good times in class.

You don't need an entire school year of learning how you're supposed to have your fingers on the home row to type traditionally... And we had this class every year through middle school
They were also flat out tired of making Halo games. They wanted to move on to make something else. In Halo 3 ODST, there's a poster that says "Destiny Awaits" with the Destiny cover on it. They had planned on making Destiny YEARS before it came out. To add to that, they wanted to be independent of Microsoft, so Microsoft made a contract with them that stated they can only make 2 more Halo games after Halo 3, thus we get Halo 3: ODST and Halo Reach.
Probably a requirement put in place by Microsoft so that the brand could be milked for more money. If it were completely up to Bungie they would have made Halo 3 a conclusive, final ending to the series.
Halo was my childhood. It was the first game I truly experienced. It was the reason I ever even got an xbox in the first place because eventually, playing every now and then at a friends house wasn't enough. I'll never forget those memories. Halo is THE fps game. I'd have to say 3 is my favorite simply because of how much fun it was to play custom games. Duck Hunt, Trash Compactor, Jenga, you get the idea. Halo 3 was by far the best. Remember custom games like Infected on Sandtrap with Warthogs. Remember Minotaur, where the first one infected moves really slow but has like 10x health. The forge maps were great, Custom games was a blast. Is there any game nowadays that has custom games like Halo 3 did?
Honestly Halo 5's custom games are absolutely amazing. And the multiplayer is great. I've had the most fun with Halo 5 than any other Halo. AND that is saying something because those CE days were lit.
Combat Evolved by far, especially when it came to what it was on the PC. The extra maps, weapons, dedicated servers, and communities catapulted the game beyond what it ever was on Xbox.
+RSE 167 Something I noticed about the CE remaster and the original is that they upped the lighting waaaay more in the remaster, and it completely changed the feel to some of the levels. One of the biggest atmosphere changes being Two Betrayals
Halo was my first shooter ever. I was in the second grade and my Mom was dating this guy who owned a Tattoo shop. Every Tuesday his whole staff would get together for a System link party. I remember the hardest part to figure out was aiming and walking. My first level was the library. The flood would scare the shit out of me. This was a great game. I bought two copies of the remastered version so I could play with my brother. Great times.
I think Halo's shield system can still be found in basically every modern FPS. It's just that COD or Battlefield shields are just highly bullet resistant human bodies.
No... COD and BF have just very low health pools. Aggressiveness Is punished and both games are nothing but a game of hide n seek. Halo is all about skill. It doesn't matter who saw the other first. The one with the better aim wins.
I've been playing halo since CE. Nothing will beat h3 community, the ranked play lists and custom games made for hours upon hours of the best times spent in a video game for me. With that said I think 343 is doing a good job with halos multiplayer, it's a balanced game with the best sandbox I've seen. Every wepon is useful and fun to use. Now if they could do something with those campaigns....

Halo 5 is a fantastic game, for a lot of reasons. The only thing which makes it bad is 343i's PR. Microtransactions, ranked matchmaking, limited gamemodes, poorly managed competitive tournaments, bad levels and restricted content make the game look bad, but if you were to strip all of that away, Halo 5 would be easily a 9/10. I've played the game a lot, and it's grown up a lot from Halo 4.
1. IF. 2. Overly cartoony graphics don't even look real. 3. Terrible writing, especially the characters 4. Spartan abilities destroy the gameplay and just hop on to the bandwagon of enhanced abilities 5. Low ttk thins the skill gap and speeds up the gameplay to the point where it doesn't feel like Halo 6. Sprint is unnecessary and spoils the map design (watch Bdobbinsftw for why) 7. The game had nearly no content at the start, and a whole year later it only has things that were expected in the first place 8. The AIs are broken and inept 9. The automatic weapons are far too overpowered in every way and this lowers the skill gap 10. Th armor (with a few exceptions) looks terrible 11. There are few customization options 12. Until recent updates the customs were terrible 13. The game is EXTREMELY BUGGY AND GLITCHY and gets worse in this way every update 14. No split screen 15. The game is toned down to be teen rated, resulting in nearly no blood and the main enemies being robots 16. The robot prometheans are extremely boring to fight 17. The bosses are boring bullet sponges that have insta-kill homing and just stand there waiting to be shot. What fun. 18. Spartans literally glow in the dark, making the game look even more fake 19. Grenade blasts are massive to compensate for thruster packs 20. The game is designed around MLG and competitive, a tiny part of the community 21. Aiming was broken for months 22. Matching is terrible 23. Massive amounts of magnetism and aim assist do most of the work for you 24. Building off of the last one, sniping is no longer a challenge 25. The power weapons are poorly balanced, often having massive payoff for little skill or low payoff for large amounts of skill. The standard weapons are balanced pretty well though Face it, 343i only cares about money at this point. Even you admit several big problems with the game. I will admit it has great post-launch support and great forge (even though it took two extra months to release), but that doesn't save it. It has its ups, but it is overall terrible for a Halo game. If it was standalone I would give it more slack, but it's still a buggy mess.
Croakinc36 I appreciate you writing all that out. I personally find some of those to not really bother me. The game's multiplayer pacing is fantastic for me, and I love it. But I'm not disagreeing with all of you, oh no, if you wanted me to tell you what else was bad, there'd be at least 50 more points on that list. I love the game's core, I really do, but for everything 343i adds, they add something else that fucks it up for me. It's sad, really, I wish they would focus on that core, but yeah, they want money. I'd prefer map packs to micro-transactions at this point. Not that they're bad in this game - Eagle Precursor has a fuckload of REQs, literally thousands, and he hasn't spent a dime on the game. Oh, and I'm not talking about the story. Fuck that. Fuck the sloppy characters, bad story pacing, lies on the trailers and fucking Brian Reed.
Hey, I just wanted to express this, I don’t know if you’ll ever see this but, I’m a school teacher currently busting my ass to teach virtually and plan for in person and I’m kinda overwhelmed this morning and this video popped up on my feed. Spokane's motto was "near nature, near perfect." I live in Yakima now and God how I wish I hadn't taken that motto for granted. Spokane can get hellishly cold, but it really is lovely to live in a city with all of what you need, and also surrounded by beautiful evergreen trees. It's a great place to live in Washington. Not like Yakima, which is more dead and empty than an example map.
As a Halo fan, I really feel like it's important to note that while CE's usage of wide open exterior spaces and the two weapon limit intending to force the player to use different weapons, while important developments, are also something that wasn't exactly executed that well in CE. Yes, Halo CE has a lot of wide open spaces instead of just corridors, but those spaces don't exactly make good use of how big they are and tend to just be empty fields, and there ARE a lot of repeated, copy pasted corridors, nonetheless. And while the two weapon limit is ostensibly intended to force you to mix up your weapon choices, the pistol is good at basically everything you really are rarely in a situation where you are better off not using it, which trivializes the entire system. CE's also got issues with the latter half of the campaign reusing the first half's missions, and limited weapon and enemy variety. While it's undoubtedly a great game and deserves praise for starting the franchise, it irks me when people act like it's a flawless masterpiece when the sequels go a long way to alleviate the problems it does and they don't get as much praise.
+Jabberwockxeno I actually had a whole bit about the game's repeated levels in the latter parts and of course the infamous Library level, but I ended up cutting it for time. well at this time, fps games were still growing and people were unsure of how to do build a great fps truthfully so with these things they learned over time what to do and add and get rid of, plus back in the day, graphics were very limited compared to know, so adding allot of eye candy and such to empty areas is taxing as well, that's why now a days in games the eye candy is heavy because GPU has aged very well.

Not true at all, the Halo community is still really strong and open to all player kinds. That's why they have separate playlists for social and competitive game modes. Halo communities back then are just as bad as you think it is not if you wanna look at it that way.

(Ordnance, shit maps, destuction of Infection customization, etc. Halo 5 redefined... what it means to get teabagged by 343i. (Removal of split screen, inability to Forge or do 1 player customs without Xbox Live Gold.) ________ That's pretty much it.

I remember being ten and playing the flood levels for the first time. Looking back it was the most frustratingly satisfying things to beat. Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo Reach, and now Halo 5 are so revolutionary. Halo CE introduced the regenerating shields and control scheme, Halo 2 introduced XBL Competitive Multiplayer, Halo 3 introduced Forge and Custom Games, Halo Reach built even more onto that with Forge World, and now Halo 5 has the best custom games and best map maker on Xbox with the hugely improved Forge.
Night Soldier probably because halo 4 didnt really change much and its multiplayer was disapointing but it did have a good story, halo 5 being the opposite with a badly written story but good campaign gameplay and a multiplayer thats much better then halo reach or 4 with a great weapon balance and good sandbox.
Night Soldier I love all the Halo games, but the 5 that I mentioned impacted the series the most. You can't deny that Halo 5 changed Halo's future in drastic ways. We can now expect 60fps, the improved forge, fun weapon variants, and custom games browser in the future Halo games. Yeah, Halo 5 had a bad campaign and no splitscreen, but that doesn't make Halo 5 the worst game.

They were also flat out tired of making Halo games. They wanted to move on to make something else. In Halo 3 ODST, there's a poster that says "Destiny Awaits" with the Destiny cover on it. They had planned on making Destiny YEARS before it came out. To add to that, they wanted to be independent of Microsoft, so Microsoft made a contract with them that stated they can only make 2 more Halo games after Halo 3, thus we get Halo 3: ODST and Halo Reach.

Probably a requirement put in place by Microsoft so that the brand could be milked for more money. If it were completely up to Bungie they would have made Halo 3 a conclusive, final ending to the series.
Halo was my childhood. It was the first game I truly experienced. It was the reason I ever even got an xbox in the first place because eventually, playing every now and then at a friends house wasn't enough. I'll never forget those memories. Halo is THE fps game. I'd have to say 3 is my favorite simply because of how much fun it was to play custom games. Duck Hunt, Trash Compactor, Jenga, you get the idea. Combat Evolved by far, especially when it came to what it was on the PC. The extra maps, weapons, dedicated servers, and communities catapulted the game beyond what it ever was on Xbox.
CE was just plain creepy at points that's what I liked about it. The depth was very good. The music was exquisite

Halo was my first shooter ever. I was in the second grade and my Mom was dating this guy who owned a Tattoo shop. Every Tuesday his whole staff would get together for a System link party. I remember the hardest part to figure out was aiming and walking. My first level was the library. The flood would scare the shit out of me. This was a great game. I bought two copies of the remastered version so I could play with my brother. Great times.
I think Halo's shield system can still be found in basically every modern FPS. It's just that COD or Battlefield shields are just highly bullet resistant human bodies.

I've been playing halo since CE. Nothing will beat h3 community, the ranked play lists and custom games made for hours upon hours of the best times spent in a video game for me.
With that said I think 343 is doing a good job with halos multiplayer, it's a balanced game with the best sandbox I've seen. Every wepon is useful and fun to use. Now if they could do something with those campaigns....

More complex than that. They stole stuff from generic shooters, not just cod.
Halo 5 is a fantastic game, for a lot of reasons. The only thing which makes it bad is 343i's PR. Microtransactions, ranked matchmaking, limited gamemodes, poorly managed competitive tournaments, bad levels and restricted content make the game look bad, but if you were to strip all of that away, Halo 5 would be easily a 9/10. I've played the game a lot, and it's grown up a lot from Halo 4.
1. IF.
2. Overly cartoony graphics don't even look real.
3. Terrible writing, especially the characters
4. Spartan abilities destroy the gameplay and just hop on to the bandwagon of enhanced abilities
5. Low ttk thins the skill gap and speeds up the gameplay to the point where it doesn't feel like Halo
6. Sprint is unnecessary and spoils the map design (watch Bdobbinsftw for why)
7. The game had nearly no content at the start, and a whole year later it only has things that were expected in the first place
8. The AIs are broken and inept
9. The automatic weapons are far too overpowered in every way and this lowers the skill gap
10. Th armor (with a few exceptions) looks terrible
11. There are few customization options
12. Until recent updates the customs were terrible
13. The game is EXTREMELY BUGGY AND GLITCHY and gets worse in this way every update
14. No split screen
15. The game is toned down to be teen rated, resulting in nearly no blood and the main enemies being robots
16. The robot prometheans are extremely boring to fight
17. The bosses are boring bullet sponges that have insta-kill homing and just stand there waiting to be shot. What fun.
18. Spartans literally glow in the dark, making the game look even more fake
19. Grenade blasts are massive to compensate for thruster packs
20. The game is designed around MLG and competitive, a tiny part of the community
21. Aiming was broken for months
22. Matching is terrible
23. Massive amounts of magnetism and aim assist do most of the work for you
24. Building off of the last one, sniping is no longer a challenge
25. The power weapons are poorly balanced, often having massive payoff for little skill or low payoff for large amounts of skill. The standard weapons are balanced pretty well though
Face it, 343i only cares about money at this point. Even you admit several big problems with the game. I will admit it has great post-launch support and great forge (even though it took two extra months to release), but that doesn't save it. It has its ups, but it is overall terrible for a Halo game. If it was standalone I would give it more slack, but it's still a buggy mess.
Halo 5: Legacy Edition

But I'm not disagreeing with all of you, oh no, if you wanted me to tell you what else was bad, there'd be at least 50 more points on that list. I love the game's core, I really do, but for everything 343i adds, they add something else that fucks it up for me. It's sad, really, I wish they would focus on that core, but yeah, they want money. I'd prefer map packs to micro-transactions at this point. Not that they're bad in this game - Eagle Precursor has a fuckload of REQs, literally thousands, and he hasn't spent a dime on the game.
Oh, and I'm not talking about the story. Fuck that. Fuck the sloppy characters, bad story pacing, lies on the trailers and fucking Brian Reed.

Spokane can get hellishly cold, but it really is lovely to live in a city with all of what you need, and also surrounded by beautiful evergreen trees. It's a great place to live in Washington. As a Halo fan, I really feel like it's important to note that while CE's usage of wide open exterior spaces and the two weapon limit intending to force the player to use different weapons, while important developments, are also something that wasn't exactly executed that well in CE.
Yes, Halo CE has a lot of wide open spaces instead of just corridors, but those spaces don't exactly make good use of how big they are and tend to just be empty fields, and there ARE a lot of repeated, copy pasted corridors, nonetheless. And while the two weapon limit is ostensibly intended to force you to mix up your weapon choices, the pistol is good at basically everything you really are rarely in a situation where you are better off not using it, which trivializes the entire system.
CE's also got issues with the latter half of the campaign reusing the first half's missions, and limited weapon and enemy variety. While it's undoubtedly a great game and deserves praise for starting the franchise, it irks me when people act like it's a flawless masterpiece when the sequels go a long way to alleviate the problems it does and they don't get as much praise.
+Jabberwockxeno I actually had a whole bit about the game's repeated levels in the latter parts and of course the infamous Library level, but I ended up cutting it for time. Thanks for reminding me to touch on that in the next video about 2 and 3. Dog bless. Also yeah the pistol is easily the best in a lot of situations, but I love it so much that I'm personally ok with that haha.
well at this time, fps games were still growing and people were unsure of how to do build a great fps truthfully so with these things they learned over time what to do and add and get rid of, plus back in the day, graphics were very limited compared to know, so adding allot of eye candy and such to empty areas is taxing as well, that's why now a days in games the eye candy is heavy because GPU has aged very well.

Not true at all, the Halo community is still really strong and open to all player kinds. That's why they have separate playlists for social and competitive game modes. Halo communities back then are just as bad as you think it is not if you wanna look at it that way.

But boy I was instantly in love and loving it more and more the more I played it. It was later during one of my fanboy google searches about the concepts of Halo that I discovered this huge community of Halo fans. I keep coming back to this Halo series of videos to listen to whilst working from home...god damn, transports me back to being a kid and playing these games with friends and captures the sense of awe I felt so well every single time.

No fin way... srsly? Man I still remember Myth well... that one level with the Myrmidons chasing after your bunch of berserkers... could never beat that. I suckkked at that game. All the levels except Across the Gjol. Those Dwarven Satchel charges would save my ass.
Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo Reach, and now Halo 5 are so revolutionary. Halo CE introduced the regenerating shields and control scheme, Halo 2 introduced XBL Competitive Multiplayer, Halo 3 introduced Forge and Custom Games, Halo Reach built even more onto that with Forge World, and now Halo 5 has the best custom games and best map maker on Xbox with the hugely improved Forge.

Night Soldier probably because halo 4 didnt really change much and its multiplayer was disapointing but it did have a good story, halo 5 being the opposite with a badly written story but good campaign gameplay and a multiplayer thats much better then halo reach or 4 with a great weapon balance and good sandbox.
Night Soldier I love all the Halo games, but the 5 that I mentioned impacted the series the most. You can't deny that Halo 5 changed Halo's future in drastic ways. We can now expect 60fps, the improved forge, fun weapon variants, and custom games browser in the future Halo games. Yeah, Halo 5 had a bad campaign and no splitscreen, but that doesn't make Halo 5 the worst game.
