Yeah, this tracks. The Zombies in Zomboid are FAR slower, however-- they're the normal shamblers everybody's come to love. I don't wanna think what that game would be like with runners and human NPCs... Though, that could just be easily recreated with a multiplayer server and mods

Even the dude dragging a plastic bag with canned food inside during the first part of the movie was spot on with the Project Zomboid early Apocalypse experience. Thats one of the things I do before I find a backpack

Give F#A# Infinity by Godspeed You! Black Emperor a listen. One of the songs from that album is used in the movie, and generally the theme of the album fits the movie so well.
The whole soundtrack was on repeat in my iPod 1st edition back in 03’.

Single player my friend, single player
If you set it in London then guns would be incredibly hard to find, so maybe multiplayer could work with melee weapons only, making trolls less likely to spoil things. No guns would make the game a lot scarier too.
Multiplayer would work if you make a Protection, like you need survive the first 60 min of game allone in singelplayer, a hospital escape level or somthing. And the Enemy dont dies instantly from heart/headshots so he can shoot back.
I often watch movies and think to myself, "this would make a kick-ass video game".

I've never seen any games take nutritional value into account with their hunger systems. You can technically "survive" eating nothing but chocolate bars and drinking soda in Project Zomboid, Unturned, and other games. It'd be interesting having your survivor react negatively to lacking something in their diet, like protein from meat or vitamin-C from fruit. You can portion your food and make combined meals from them so you'll keep a healthy diet going.

Vitamin C Defiency takes like 2 months to show up, also known as Scurvy, if you're real fucking bad at eating Oranges and Lemons, and other shit that contains Vitamni C, but I get your point. I've also been thinking of how cool it would be, in a game, to just combine random shit, in this case food items, and make soup, but instead of bread, or wahtever the fuck, you have an Orange instead. Or, you just throw random shit in a stew, or a pot, and it's dinner. Real-life kinda shit. Preferences would also be a cool thing. Either choose yourself, or randomized, but you don't find out until you actually eat something that your character hates/doesn't like/doesn't prefer, like Oranges, and the way you find out, is when you eat an Orange Flavored Choclate Bar. I actually saw an interview where the creators said it wasn't a zombie film. But after they got an award for best new zombie film, they changed their tune.

I'd really love a zombie game set in the uk. For me personally because I'm from the uk I find it hard to feel a lot of immersion because everything in zombie game culture seems to be on the us. I know that a lot of people like that but for me it would really be amazing to hear about places I've actually been to or seen. Hearing about English towns and cities would really make me understand the weight of what's happened if someone says 'yeah Birmingham was glassed by air strikes' etc

I doubt it. For better or worse, practically every single thing he described already exists as a game mechanic in other games. To be frank, the game Jakey is describing is basically 80% State of Decay, 10% the last of us, and 10% Breath of the wild.
oh for sure it does already exist there's no doubt about it,
However taping it all together, plus finding a suitable engine to run all of it? it would be scary as hell, it would have to be in development for an excruciating long time. Not to mention if you wanted graphics next to last of us/ breath of the wild. That would take up marginal space. Hell GTA 5 takes up 65GB and that's only a quarter of los Angeles. Los Angeles in it's self is 1375 km2, Where as England is about 130,00 Km2 and thats just the map with the textures!
However theoretically you could only take a certain city from England such as Westminster instead.. but that would be almost as big as say the map from Mafia 2...,
Either way this idea is not just amazing in it's own respect just creating it from scratch would be a nightmare.

I've heard a lot about that game!, Some amazing mechanics and ideas, However they were poorly executed, if i remember correctly. i also remember hearing that the game was mainly very dark and had lots of closed linear options (besides being in the outside portions)

Project Zomboid has everything except the rotting feature, zombies still rot but they only get weaker. Food, water, seasons, insanity, sprinting zombies, open ended world , permadeath
Something like S.T.A.L.K.E.R but more in depth, more modern, more polished, and integrating all of his ideas into it, that would be fucking awesome

I would love this game idea to no end. I don't know why, but for several years now I have been fascinated about this idea of just getting shelter and getting cozy in "my base" between gameplay.. Immerse myself into just being in the world and taking a break. A place I can revert to and relax. So when a game has an option like that, I keep making a shelter and returning there for the night, but every time I get it all set and do it, I just feel like "why? Nothing's threatening me. This serves no purpose".. I'm left basically just taking in the atmosphere. I even did this once in Horizon: Zero Dawn.. I just went under this lush building's floor that looked like a safe place for Aloy to wait for the morning and took a break for myself from killing robot dinosaurs. Obviously nothing changed during the entire time, but I just tried to replicate what I would wish to be in games; just the ability to sit down and be there.. For me, it's just such a big immersion point, to find a place where to settle for the night... If a game actually made a mechanic where time passing and taking shelter would contribute to your success and you'd have to be on the lookout/defense as enemies MIGHT come around, it would be something I have been hoping for for a long time.
Some games that have done this well;
Minecraft. I think the biggest part I find enjoyable is the "make a base and return home for the night" thing you can do. Still, leaves me wanting more.
Stranded Deep; after having made the primitive shack of your own, just sitting down on it's porch looking at the amazing sunset can feel like you are actually there. But again, it serves no purpose and there is nothing to shelter from.
DayZ: Getting a good amount of food and settling down for the night in a building was intense, as you had to stay on guard for other players flashlights and didn't dare to move in the night as some other player might have had the nightvision goggles. This game made taking shelter feel incredibly atmospheric, served a purpose and forced you to move if out of food. Best so far.
Fallout 4; not as atmospheric, but the fact that just chilling at your base and being on the lookout could result in you seeing some random supermutant convoy or some raiders fighting wildlife in the horizon made it feel like the world around you is alive enough that things actually happen outside of your base. Unfortunately, still felt... not very.. Dynamic or real.

The Forest looks like a game that will fit you. Specially as days pass, instead of getting easier, it gets harder, because in the beggining there are human sized cannibals, but after a few days of building your base and thinking youre confy after a full in-game day, giant cannibals with many legs and arms as well as giant fat cannibals will come to your base and may destroy it unless you try hard. I think its a very complex game and has a lot of potential, looks like it fits you so you should check it out.
Herkko Koskinen it would also have to have difficult enemies at least a night so you couldn't just walk around and kill everything with ease.

Project Zomboid mimics the feel of this movie quite accurately, and sometimes more bruttally, there's even a mod dedicated to the movie
Far cry 3 and 4 have caged animals that you can free and they would attack enemies, something similar could be applied to zombies

For the same reason very few of us are writers (and even fewer - good ones), despite all of us having imagination and coming up with a few "good" stories for a book once in a while.
Having some interesting, original, or otherwise baller ass ideas for a game is great and all, but putting all that into an actual game, making all the 1 and 0 dance in just the right way for all the thing to come together is a grandiose feat that requires months (if not years) of work for people who know what they are doing.

I love the idea and I had a few ideas to add:
- NO MULTIPLAYER! Almost or if not every zombie open world game with multiplayer results in every encounter with a human play the EXACT same. Just shoot on sight
- have every survivor be different with different wants and needs, think mass effect interactions with the choices with a first a first person view

I can see how tempting in can be for developers ti add multiplayer to a survival game.Zombie games like Left 4 Dead 2 work since you aren't competing with 1 another, in survival games you are.
Maybe this 28 Days Letter could have 2 different starts, theatrical, and traditional. In theatrical, you create your character and start in the same way you start out in the movie. In traditional, you as before create your character, but now you start 7 days before shit hits the fan (in fear the walking dead and other sources, 7 days seems to be about right before a full functioning city turns into chaos). Lets say you start out as a police officer, you start out at your house and its your day off. Now you have to decide what you have to do today. Just to make it realistic, you can't choose to right off the bat start raiding houses and convince stores and expect to get a head start, you ca't since z time hasn't started. You can try to do this legally or you can try to do a number of tasks that have been sent to you on your phone. During your countdown to z days you hear about infection and issues arising around your city and near by towns. You eventually get called in between the 4-7 day to get on patrol to assist and help out the other officers fighting the infection. (this is optional, you can say screw it)
I would also want a randomness added, let every play through be different, let infection rate be different, just let the game decide how it wants to screw you over by sending a 5000 zombie hoard into the map or not let 500 zombies rip your face off.

a good mix up for a multiplayer survival game (IN MY OPINION)
- 28 days later as a basis so zombie type, setting ect.
- dying lights movement mechanics, so parkour and movement being very free as you traverse the world
-character customization from fallout 4, although it doesn't sound great, id love to edit my body type in game and also edit my looks and clothing/armor.
-settlement building from fallout 4, and yes people don't like fallout 4 but the settlement system in a post apocalyptic london/ england which allows you to make your own defendable base sounds pretty good to me
-classes and skill system. dependant on your character, you could build a different skill tree to fit your needs like sneaking, weapon types you are proficient in ect.
-loot system from fallout (generally all games) finding unique survivors weapons would be cool as they all have their own special modifications and benefits you wouldnt be able to craft ingame
-crafting system, like you suggested, being able to create a molotov, or even a spiked bat of some sort would be amazing. something like fallout 4's modification or dead rising 3 as the crafting could be on the go (but toned down from the craziness of weapons from dead rising 3)
There is a lot more i could have suggested but these are the ones that came to mind, tell me if you liked it and if not please suggest why.

its a common thing to have pvp ingame but i think having it as optional would be best so instead of using it in all dedicated servers there are preferences you would be able to set. so you could search fro something to your liking along with private servers with friends
im not talking ripped directly from it i mean basic structures that are prebuilt eg barricades, walls, beds and such. so nothing super customisable but something for simple base defense along with some other building items that could help make traversal around your compound easier

Because the industry has it's nightmarish aspects, especially if you aren't the company president or some similar high end position. Ideal dream of many people, especially growing up, only to be swiftly slashed down by the reality of working for a industry juggernaut of a company.

Seems like Project Zomboid which is available on Steam, it's an amazing game and I highly suggest you play it.
(Open-world, scenarios, sims 3-esque emotions, weather, water and electricity shut off, choose your own difficulty, traits, and a LOT more)
And it's horrifying if that adds anything.
If you want more of a first-person shooter, try No More Room in Hell.
It's a free Steam game that plays like Left 4 Dead but MUCH more horrifying (and beautiful).
(But it doesn't contain much of an open-world or food...)

There's a game called NEO Scavenger that I believe a lot of people should play when it comes to a open world survival game. Also, I can definitely see a London Zombie based game. Much love bro for the well done videos
I also immediately thought about NEO Scavenger when he talked about the plastic bag and having to actually consider how you carry things. Haven't played a lot of it but it is a very interesting and inventive game.

Fuck that causal shit, cataclysm:dda has almost ALL the stuff he mentions in the video(and sooo much more) if you can get over the 1980 graphics and the constant dying you'll have the best apocalypse simulator.
A sandbox survival game like this where the goal is to survive 28 days would be awesome because of the replay ability. One several playthroughs you could think "okay, this time I'll be super aggressive and clear out as much as I can" or "I'll see how long I can lie low". Whoever were to make the game could also have different starts, like the dad is a bigger guy so less endurance/stamina but he already has an apartment with some supplies, or for a hard start you could choose Jim, who starts alone in the middle of the hospital. Then there could also be a possibility of a randomized start, anywhere in London with a random assortment of supplies.

I've always had an idea for a zombie outbreak game set in Dublin. I have plenty of ideas but one idea that I had was it doesn't start 28 days or 20 years after the beginning of the end, you start a week or two before the outbreak. The player has a job and you can make friends and talk with people, and those jobs and relationships effect the game later on. There's also news reports on the outbreak and things like that (in this universe a umbrella style company in Dublin becomes the biggest pharmaceutical company in the world and they fuck everything up). I always thought it be interesting to see how the end begins in zombie games and it be cool to see something like what I just mentioned.
Yet another good reason to respect mr. Nakeyjakey. 28 Days later is a fucking classic amongst zombie movies and I'm so surprised when I find out that most people haven't even heard of the movie. It is *so* good.

Now with the imminent PS5 release, they'll probably have to re tool the entire thing to be a dual release.

7 Days To Die is a current video game that comes pretty close. They’re almost to alpha 22 at this point, and it’s becoming a zombie shooter that everyone hates, but alpha 16 captured a surprising amount of what you just talked about. The food mechanics, crafting, exploration, base scrounging, and survival are all very immersive.
Love your videos man they're so creative and smart and from this point I already know that you will hit at least one million subscribers keep up the good work ;)

I found this video googling for "28 later games" hoping there would be an actual game for based around either _28 Days Later_ or _28 Weeks Later._
Also, another film that would make a great video game, partly because the film itself looks like a game and partly because the setting of the film would maming an amazing setting for games and I'm absolutely shocked that games have not used this setting.
That film is _'71_ - a film shot almost entirely from the FPS view of a British soldier, without his gun, in Troubles torn Belfast. It's a film that IMHO, you need to watch, especially if you liked _28 Days Later._ It is a blistering suspenseful film of survival horror and industrial strength double crossing by *EVERY* side involved.
IMHO the film would make an amazing watch and a fantastic adaptation into a game.
I love '71 too but I'm struggling to see how it could be translated into a game. Unless it's an MGS style stealth game where you have to survive for 24 hours and find your way back to HQ. You know what... nvm that sounds fucking awesome.

Because the one thing I picked up from the last "Won't someone PLEASE think of the children" controversy invloving games and the mainstream media (that being Doki Doki Literature Club on Victoria Derbyshire) was that the attitude towards video games had matured to the point where even short haired middle aged mams with problematic spectacle frames had experience in gaming.
Eamon Holmes might complain, but I'd like to at least think he'd be outnumbered by the cast and writer of _Derry Girls,_ Dara O'Brien, Graham Linehan and possibly both sides of the younger population of Northern Ireland who'd either be looking forward to it or at least wanting to wait and see. The plot, development and marketing of the game would have to be done respectfully and thoughtfully.

since it has been done already with microsoft flight sim 2020, they could adapt their methods to take google street view to build the games world. this could create an entirely empty london open for exploration, 1 to 1 scale. this is the one thing i dream of happening in a game.
they could make mix in the survival and exploration aspects of dayz and fallout.
That sort of thing was already done with The Getaway on PS2. They went around taking a ton of photographs of London and used maps to make it look as realistic as possible. It wasn't a perfect recreation and not to scale but this was about 20 years ago now.
You'd still have to come up with an algorithm that fills buildings with sensible interiors (because you'd want as many of them as possible accessible in a game like this), or you'd still have to do them manually = shitload of work.
@@filipmilichovsky9772 since most of London’s houses were build at the same time and quickly, most interiors are actually identical. They’d have to build the interiors of maybe 200-400 types of buildings, then assign each house their own type. They could then rng the actual colour schemes for furniture inside and even if it’s there. The biggest challenge in all of this would be the type allocation, as you’d have to identify the number of buildings and make the interiors line up with the doors and windows etc etc.
It’s definitely possible, and while yeah it will be time consuming the payoff would be insane

That probably still leaves us with lots of custom residential buildings, all sorts of public buildings (with decidedly unique layouts), commercial office buildings (luckily mostly rectangular - easier for generation), lots of hidden infrastructure, other stuff...
Sounds like it would be a really cool community project (like replicating the Earth in Minecraft), but I don't think it'd be attractive from a business perspective right now, when you can milk a much more simple multiplayer game through microtransactions.
