Wow im amazed with the expertise and craftsmanship involved in making a set of seat covers. Ive paid for about 5 or 6 cars to be redone over the last 30 years. I had no idea. Those included vinyl tops headliners and carpets. I have a new found respect. Thanks for making these videos . Awesome!
Quality craftsmanship is disappearing. So it's especially gratifying to see someone with the skills and care like you. Love the attention to every detail. You're an artist, my friend.
Using a big stitch length makes joining the leather to the foam backing alot quicker as you are only needing to tack the two together after glueing. & If you trim the seam back at all the cross joins you will find the machine won't go sideways whilst doing your french seam at the thick pieces.
You need a stitch in the ditchfoot that has the spring piece that keeps you in the ditch and you get perfect stitching . Available in different widths and such , they help immensely . Thus is one of the times you want a sewing machine that has needle possitioner installed so hou can set it when you stop the need is in down or up position but when doing you'd definitely want to have it stop with foot down . Very impressive work it looks great well done fella
I know them. But I think if you have a very flat seam, you can't use it. Because the sword is too thick. You can only use it, if the seam is relative thick for eg leather with foam.
Trying my first job like your work but would really like to know how you made your patterns out of paper if you could make a short video about them it would really help me out.
I'm about 2 - 3 weeks away from starting to do upholstery, And I'm usually running about 1-2 weeks behind on editing videos so about a month + before it'll be posted up, I have a quite a few requests for that so I'll do a more detailed pattern video.
I cant even imagine being successful @ this without a walking foot machine (which I dont have) That Juki is the shit!!!!! along with your talent very impressive....
Thanks, There awesome machines a must stichin leather, Every now and then you can find them for sale its one tool that will never loose value if taken care of.
Been thinking about doing a custom reshape and trim job on the project's factory seats. Think I'll just grab some off-the-shelf bucket seats instead and save the custom trim thing for easier panels like dashboard and centre console...
When you make patterns, do you use clear plastic or tracing paper to make initial pattern from the seat and then later convert it over to paper? Also is there a reason why most upholstery places use half inch and thinner foam? I know that a lot of people like firmer seats but I want to make my seats extra soft and squishy so I was thinking a full inch thick foam or even thicker.
Great video. I'm a beginning auto upholsterer and I don't have any templates for seat upholstery. Would you be willing to sell copies of your templates?
Curious why you create separate panels for seat back/bottom inserts rather than making one large panel and using pleats? Total legit question. I am by no means challenging you. I'm genuinely curious. I'm trying to get into doing my own seat covers as soon as I find a machine, so learning what I can from videos like this. Great job with your Chevelle, btw. Outstanding. We need to start getting you more views ;) Very underrated channel but I know it's rather new. If you haven't thought about using a mic yet, I would highly consider it. It will definitely improve the quality of your videos. Speaking from a seasoned YT viewer ;)
Thanks! I am looking into mic's I've been waiting to see how this YT thing goes, Doing these channels get's expensive pretty quick..... It really comes down to looks if you just did a top stich it looks like vinal or you took the cheap way out, Doing each piece hides all the stitching except what you want to be exposed plus its a challenge, If you have the means I suggest buying a new machine if you plan on doing more then one its the one tool in your arsenal that will never loose valve if taken care of. I did 2 side jobs to pay for it. Rich.
For the center back seat parts, couldn't you have gotten the same result if you had not cut individual pieces, and instead just sown pleats into the center back seat section?
I do on bench seats the buckets seats are new with covers removed but i have built up stationary buckets form scratch, I will do a video on them but it wont be for awhile.
I'm not really sure if I can say if they would consider it a sponsorship, being a new channel don't want to break the rules. But there is good upholstery supply houses online.
do you charge less money do to a "driver car" interior, compared to a show "car interior". if both cars have the same interior style?. do to the fact you stated the "driver car" doesn't have to be "perfect"? .

Yea they can be pretty intimating to do the first couple of times.
Can you do a video on how you make the patterns?
I can when I get up to doing the next set of seats, I'll get into more of the details.
Great video, you are awesome
Thank you!
Nice work.
Thanks!
Great video … what are your thoughts on buying vinyl and thread from Amazon ..? I want to recover my hometheater seats..

Because individual panels don't have thread showing, a cleaner, more luxurious looking seat

When doing inserts and I do not want the stitches to show I stitch the front and fold over and stitch through back.
Where do you purchase those good looking bucket seats when in stock?
I usually get them from Summit

That's what I was also thinking. It would save soooo much time.
Is that a Juki 1541s or 1508?
What did you charge ($$) for this job?
Looks great....how many hides you use?
Thanks! I used 7 total.
Looking very good. Which Juke machine are you using? I’m an old goat 73 just starting my journey learning automotive upholstery.
I find the upholstery the most relaxing and rewarding part of the builds good luck on your journey! My Juki is a DNU 1541

Do you ever replace the foam when you do seats?
I do on bench seats the buckets seats are new with covers removed but i have built up stationary buckets form scratch, I will do a video on them but it wont be for awhile.
Did you copy the old seat parts, or re-pattern
It was all a new pattern
How long does this project take.good job.
Thanks, With all the custom things I did to it, It was about a month or so,
What glue are you using in the can?
Its Dap landau top and trim glue
Can you make a cover for my town car armrest?
I probably could but it wouldn't t be very cost effective, Your best bet is a local upholstery shop.
where di you get the brown paper for the pattern?
Most hardware stores have it, It'll be in the paint, Flooring or roofing section, Its a medium heavy paper
Who do you use for your foam, leather, and vinyl supplies?
I'm not really sure if I can say if they would consider it a sponsorship, being a new channel don't want to break the rules. But there is good upholstery supply houses online.
Tyler Foam Products for Foam, vinyl and misc. The leather hide store for leather. That's wow I use. The Foam store is wholesale.
You must be running a clutch type motor instead of a survotype.
Это видео нужно показывать тем, кто кричит - почему так дорого за перетяжку!!
LOL! so true they dont get its labor intensive.
