- I'm still completely blown away at having seen the Ken Miles driven Le Mans winning GT40 and the Bob Bondurant victoriously driven Daytona Coupe at the OVC event recently. These are not replicas...these are the actual cars driven by the two motorsports legends. Over $90 million in value between these 2 cars!!! I never thought I would see these in my lifetime up close and personal like this.

I agree entirely with the postulation about the financial figure estimates of the winning Ford GT40s at Lemans, and it's coupe counterpart at Daytona. The ORIGINAL automobiles pricelessly command $100 million dollars each, because of their beauty, excellent performance engineering, and first place racing history.
As a Ford enthusiast this is the holy grail..... I have a print of the Daytona beside a barn back in the sixties signed by Carroll, Bob Bondurant and Pete Brock that I bought at Sears Point raceway back in the 80's.
So so so jealous.... the most beautiful collection of cars I think I've ever seen.... the GT40 is an obsession a love a passion.
Most truly you are honoured with the pleasure I've not only the original crew but seeing these most amazing beautiful works of art.... and yes I know exactly how you feel.... it's enough to make a grown man cry
I went to the Las Vegas Shelby shop & museum a few years ago and It was awesome, but these cars were not on display. I am so glad that you took the time to compile a video for all of us to enjoy a close look at these history making cars. Here in the land down under it was very rare to see a V8 until about 1967. Most of the Australian cars were 4 cylinder or straight 6 and less than 3 liter displacement, manual 3 on the column or 2 & 3 speed auto. Mustangs etc. were a distant dream to all but the very wealthy.
It was mind blowing to be up close to these legends. Wow was about all I could say

I'm 72 and remember them well.
i regularly get to see the 1967 ford Mk.IV that won le mans in 67. i visit the old girl frequently. when she was off display, the owner of the Mk.I that won both 68 and 69. i was in shock to see that car in front of my face. these cars were genuinely art pieces that functioned very well.

Amazing to see all these cars together in one place, I often wondered what happened to some of them as Carol Shelby once requested the Daytona Cobra's Coupe's that raced overseas were thrown overboard the ship that was due to be carrying them back to the USA.
At least they survived and some are in private collectors hands.

These iconic racing programs were going on simultaneously with the race to the Moon program. I imagine what it would be like to see the Gemini and Apollo capsules together in one place along with the Astronauts and other workers. It truly was a special time to be alive and experience the successes of both programs that put America at the forefront of international competition. The 60s were very specail.

As a Ford FE guy I cried during the movie because a bunch of American gearheads literally stomped Europe's guts out.
Rest in peace Carroll Shelby, Ken Miles , and Phil Remington. Bet they are working on something really really special now.

I did make it to his memorial service. It truly was a who's who of people from the automotive world.

Glad you had the proper reaction to these old war horses . These cars are the cars that fought for the reputation that the modern day variants enjoy free of charge. And those old boys that piloted them , well its walking in the foot steps of giants. They also fought for every lap they led and every race they won.These cars and drivers are responsible for the mystique behind Fords racing heritage and were there on the ground floor. Ford Motor company owes them all a large amount for their contributions.
Ive driven endurance races that pale in comparison to the races these cars are known for and with modern amenities I would still spill out of the car and after the adrenaline wore off be just wrecked for a few days.
The Daytona coupe ............. what is there to say outside of looking at it... Its the most violent beautiful weapon that was ever produced.

Very cool video. Thanks for sharing. My dad brought me up learning about these cars and how important Shelby was in getting American cars to compete and to win in races against the Europeans. My dad is the one who first showed me the Cobra.
Thanks for an excellent review of an awesome collection. At a ZCar convention a few years ago, I got to meet and spend a couple days with Bob Bondurant due to his involvement with Datsun in his driving school. He and I and John Morton, and a couple other club members spent most of our lunch break at Willow Springs leaning on the pit wall talking about "the old days" of racing in Europe. I was going to school in Germany in the early '60s due to my dad's Army assignment in Stuttgart, Germany and Bob and all of that crew were running as hard as they could all over Europe in that period. It was an amazing opportunity to spend time talking with guys who I had only read about in the car magazines since TV coverage was nearly non-existent back then. I know these two guys were a couple of the best in the field during that period, but to stand there and talk for most of a hour lunch break, you could have easily taken them for neighbors hangin' out over the back fence!
Those are still priceless, treasured memories. Thanks for bring them back to light. Keep up the excellent work Shawn. I look forward to each and every edition!

What an awesome experience you had seeing so many pieces of automotive history in one place. I can't imagine ever being able to see them in one place and with many of the people who brought them into being. I was in my late teens when those cars were making history and boosting my dreams of high performance cars. In 1967 I had the opportunity to ride in a 1966 GT 350 and that was a very exciting compared to the 1964 Pontiac GTO that I owned at the time.

The owner of the 1 and 13 built a track and museum to showcase his collection in Tooele Utah. If you go take your Shelby shaking stick- it’s incredible

The Miller Family doesn’t run the track anymore. I do believe that the Ford Performance Racing School might be there but I am not sure you can take your own car out on the track. The collection has moved to Boulder, CO.
My first visit to the Shelby American Collection in Boulder, Colorado was in 2006 for their December fund rising party for the museum. The Ken Miles' GT40 no.1 was on display. I asked the staff if I could start it. They laughed and said no because of all the people in the party and the smoke detectors would off. Later in that evening the party still packed, one of the owners of the museum ask me if I still wanted to start the GT 40. I said absolutely and offered $1,000 dollars to run the engine for 15 seconds. Since I'm a very large human at 6'-5" tall, I couldn't fit in the car, so Bill Murray of Murray racing started the car for me. The place went nuts, the noise, the smell of un-burnt gas, the smoke, amazing moment. If you had a way to attach photos on your site I would. For the next 10 plus years, I paid to start multi million dollar cars inside the museum during the annual fundraiser. It was worth every single penny to give the party goers a real thrill. After the engine stopped they gave me and my friend full access to the car including sitting in it while behind the roped enclosure.
Actually got ride in an original race GT40 at the Iowa State Fair in 1966. Just idled around the fair grounds but what a blast. I think they got tired of me hanging around the booth. I am now 69 years old it is one of my finest memories.

Highly recommend reading that book....unfortunately when you do you'll get pissed off at hollywood for changing so much of the real story in Ford v. Ferrari. But none the less it's the truth and deserves to be known

Well I've been a busy man. I finally seen Ford vs Ferrari. I just stumbled onto this video. These cars are amazing. The story of each one is so deeply rooted in American history. I was screaming and yelling I watched the movie. The wife didn't understand what was going on either..lol..its not just a movie.

You’re not alone. In my book he took the triple crown win. Carroll knew it, Charlie Agapiou knew it, and Phil Remington knew it. Ken worked to the bone on the Cobra, Mustang, and certainly this car. A racing mechanic who could leave anyone including James Dean himself in his dust. I thought pot was bad in the 60’s but clearly not since they made the decision that McLaren won.

The Ken M. Car and that Dayton Coupe were on public display for years in Toole Utah. It always surprised me how few people would visit on race weekends. Not sure if the Miller family still own these cars, but their collection is mind blowing. The one son has a supper cool Land Cruiser collection on display in SLC.
Lane Linford most of the Miller Collection has moved to The Shelby American Collection in Boulder Colorado. They have subsequently added to the collection and there is even more Shelby/Holman Moody history on display.

The only reason I mention this is some guy tried to convince me they were the same - Junior and the II. I am lat II, named after my grandfather, not my father. If named after my father, I would be Junior. No biggy, and once again, thanks for a nice tribute to my country in a time where it is the target of more discord than admiration.

WOW! That is some cool content right there! The history of the Shelby is so vast that it would took HBO a couple of series to cover it all but we will have to do with a video here and there on this channel and with a movie coming in the theaters quite soon. Great stuff, I'm more Chevy Guy (Cheatah, Chaparral, GS) but I still appreciate these legendary cars. I lucky enough to live near the Cobra Experience (Martinez, Ca.), a Cobra/Ford racing Museum, they always have 6/10 REAL Cobras, 10/15 GT350s, on hand plus special stuff. A couple months ago they had a MkIV Ford GT, a DragonSnake Cobra, a MkII Ford GT, King Cobra CanAm car, a JCar prototype (breadVan) amongst the regulars. This month the Essex Wire GT350 & MkIII GT are there. Google Cobra Experience, it's Ford Guy Heaven. Yep, I take my sbc MGB to their C&C (3rd sunday of month usually) several times a year. P.S. REALLY NICE PEOPLE
@Charles Royer - I commend your attitude towards 2 typically mutually exclusive brands! I had a friend in insurance who told me he had a 70s Corvette roadster and a Thunderbird Super Coupe. He admitted that he liked to be seen in the Corvette, but he preferred the Super Coupe for spirited driving - supercharged V6 with I believe a 4 speed. He, like you, appreciated each for what they were and what he liked. Sadly, I discovered several years back that he had passed away. Great guy, and the only one I knew personally that had and liked both a Chevy and a Ford!

Truly magnificent machines!
I was addicted to going to Sebring between 1962 through 1969. I saw the GT 40 racing in their 1966 (I think) debut. I believe that AJ Foyt was driving one. Unfortunately for the Ford team there was a renegade team/driver there that year. It was Jim Hall with his Chaparral. Chevy powered rear engine V8 with a 6 speed automatic transmission. I remember the radio host talking and laughing about it the day before the race. But he was laughing out of the other side of his mouth after the 12 hours were over. At one point, the Chaparral has a 12 lap lead on a 5.2 (?) mile course. But it flooded from a tremendous thunder storm at around 4:00 P.M. I have photos from my moms Instamatic camera of the cars driving through at least a foot of water in the turn before the start finish straight away. Their headlights were on and the spray was at least 20’ high. The Chaparral has slicks on the rear but the body didn’t have a wheel well cut out for aerodynamic reasons and the Chaparral team decided to simply slow down rather than take a time consuming pit stop to lift the body up to put rain tires on.
They still won the race at 10:00 P.M. with a 3 lap lead over the second place Ford GT40. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love the GT 40 and would kill for one. On top of that, my Dad and I ran Gulf Stations for 11 years and Gulf sponsored Sebring back then, but I knew that I was seeing a unique independent race car/team in the Chaparral that was leading the way in aerodynamic design and power platform in the racing world. In fact, I believe that Jim Hall was one of the driving forces of the establishment of the CANAM series of super cars, and it has not been matched since.
In 1972 or 1973 I had the opportunity to see a CANAM Race at Road Atlanta with the McLaren and Porsche 915 (?) where Dennis Hulm went airborne in his McLaren totaling the car and giving Porsche the lead with their 1,000 horse power motor.
I was ignorant of the automotive racing history that I was able to be whiteness to, but I was observant enough to recognize the beauty of the designs of the cars, there mechanical advancements and the skills and courage of the drivers. I thank my lucky stars to have had the opportunities and experiences at Sebring and Road Atlanta. It truly a special time. Oh yes, I have never seen a more beautiful car since I laid my eyes on the original Shelby Daytona Coup, and never will.

It is a fact. The men, and perhaps women, who engineered and created those cars, are monumental figures themselves because of their groundbreaking work that made spellbinding history in consecutive years!

You need to go to the Carroll Shelby Museum in Boulder. Just get there! The Ken Miles car is there as well as the #13 Daytona Coupe AND the #23 Cobra! And many many many many more hero cars that I also tested up around like the first cobra ever made and the first GT500 ever made! It’s a very special place and I need to get back there too. There’s a ton more than I just mentioned and frankly I’m surprised most of those cars and old parts and tires and tools aren’t shrink wrapped in plastic and stored away for safekeeping
