  • This is the intro video for the rifle we'll be doing for Steve Barton @ Solid Rock Machine Shop. I've included a picture on the intro but you can also watch the video where he talks about it's history and how it is going to be a gift for his daughter. The link is provided bellow.
    There's no work being performed in the video. It's just the intro detailing what I've found and describing what will be coming later. Hope you enjoy! Paul

    I restore vintage guitar amps. My bud restores cars. You restore pneumatic weapons. We all have different looking benches within differently equipped shops. For me, there's nothing more enjoyable than being in a shop hanging out with people that love what they do. I"m pretty sure we are all on the autism spectrum somewhere.

    Paul. I had two HW 30’s professionally tuned. Best decision I ever made. Much better than I can do with installing a spring kit

    Thanks Paul,
    I had that gun for over 40 years and it was always my favorite. I am sure that there is well over 5,000 rounds shot by it over the years that I used it as a teenager. Thanks for the video update, looking forward to the other videos.
    Steve

    Great video 😊 thoroughly enjoyed watching it , Good point about the nylatron gs. I had guides and top hat made for a hw35, Not overly tight fitting to allow expansion, excellent material to use , self lubricating and very hard wearing. Im just in the process of buying a new hw30s/r7 and will have new guides made for it too

    When people like Paul tune or rebuild an air rifle, it isn't because they're trying to make a quick buck. There are much easier ways to make a few extra dollars than getting one of these machines to the highest level of functionality and mechanical accuracy. JM did me more than one favor over the years. One of them was to talk to Paul to tune an HW98 JM chose for me. If you saw that rifle today you'd think I just beat on the thing. It's because of wear not misuse. So yeah, the stippling isn't all black anymore and it's worn down where my hand rests, but it's easy to find that placement now too. (and that safety button thing he did. Who thinks of that kind of thing??)
    I know this video is old but so are good books and they're still worth reading.

      I know it's been too long since my last video. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong in the last four weeks. Glad you got something from it. I think it will be a good series. I'll try and break it up into three parts so they will not be too long. Again, many thanks for watching!!

    I wouldnt worry about neggitive comments , those of us who know better know your making it better , ya some guns shoot good out of the box but what you do makes them better , if i could do what you do to my beeman im sure it would change the feel 100% . Im sure most of us that watch your videos know enough to see all the pluses your work does , and one last point , if you're ripping people off why do so many people come to you , hmmmmm because as soon as someone shoots a gun tuned by you they know there shooting a tuned gun

    appreciate your insights! my hw30 started dragging after a few hunded shots. These def need tunes! I ended up later breaking my spring at one end so I ground it of clean at minus one curl. shoots 7.9 at 525 fps and its VERY accurate!! I have a small yard so its no big deal to loose a few fps

      Glad you're finding the videos useful. I've been holed up by myself here for so long I don't know what will be useful to folks. I'm trying to put up content that hasn't been done before or at least something with a different twist than the general consensus. I used to be on all the forums in years past and had a better "feel" of what people did and didn't know.

    • @dagevert
      @dagevert 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PaulWattsSpringGunning The only forum I find useful these days is the british airgunbbs. A lot of experienced and knowledgeable folks over there, willing to discuss springer mechanics a bit deeper that the average "brake cylinder hone and grease tune". BTW, your video on spring setting and guide fit is a good start for people who want to get into this hobby.

    • @PaulWattsSpringGunning
      @PaulWattsSpringGunning  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think I have a membership on the aigunbbs. Just haven't been on forums in a while. I'll read every now and then on some of them but feel that for the most part my input wouldn't be welcomed. I still have one guy at gun shows that always comments on me posting a picture of a custom rifle in the same thread he put a picture up in. It evidently got under his skin and felt I was trying to insult him. As far as tuning info goes, there is now way to show how something should be done without it looking like you are calling out someone who's doing it different. For now this seams to be the best way to put info up without it looking like I'm trying to insult anyone. Glad some of the info is useful. I still plan to do a couple more spring info videos. I had originally planned on it being a three part series. There are even several comments in this video that I feel are lost in translation due to the fact I never finished the series. Thanks For Watching!

    Thanks for sharing your skill and knowledge,
    I have an Hw 50 lovely rifle which I've had tuned and also the spring reduced a little just to reduce the recoil a bit however it has developed a slight rattle on the cocking arm and just wondered if that could be corrected by taking the pins out and shimming?.

  • @Stormcloakvictory
    @Stormcloakvictory 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I have an old izh-22 from the 60s or 70s
    The fit and finish was originally lovely (better than my old hw35 from about the same decade)
    I would love to make it a smooth fun shooter.
    However I couldn't see in the pictures that it was bent the way it was.
    My question to you (or anyone reading this) is.
    The barrel is a bit bent, not too worrying, the forks I suppose also are bent.
    But what worries and displeases me the most is that the tube itself is bent too.
    There's a "bulge" just where the breech block closes up and it also ever so slightly pretrudes a couple thousands over the breech block now instead of being flush.
    Is there a way to bend/flatten that out again? (without removing a bunch of metal, i don't wanna compromise the structure)
    Like could you roll it flat and straight again if someone has like these steel tube rollers/press things.
    (I don't know what it's called in English)
    Anyone any idea?

    Hi Paul,
    Brand new R9 ... barrel angles down .... scope won't adjust that far vertically. Seller says buy a droop kit, easy answer. Worried about the seal holding for very long. I have not taken it apart...is there an easy way to bring the barrel up? Not afraid of maching it if necessary.
    Thanks, Ralph

    • @rshettle123
      @rshettle123 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not Paul but I wanted to suggest getting a Sports Match fully adjustable one piece scope mount to correct for barrel droop, common with break barrels. I just bought a new HW90 and my elevation turret was maxing out, trying to zero it in at 30 yards on standard mounts. Changed out the mount with what I suggested and was able to zero the scope while remaining optically zeroed with the elevation turret. Final adjustments were just a few clicks away. Did the same with windage as well. So far the mount is holding true. It's important to ensure that all the mounting screws are evenly and properly torqued down. Good luck.

    • @PaulWattsSpringGunning
      @PaulWattsSpringGunning  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you're not afraid to machine anything just make a fixture to mount the lower half of the rings on a dovetail and machine the proper amount of "droop" into the rings you're using to match the angle of the barrel. I used to use a one inch ball mill and machine the ears to match. Be sure to space the rings that same for both the fixture and how they are mounted on the rifle. You can machine on the base of the barrel where it comes to rest on the receiver lug but you best not take too much off or you'll be buying another barrel.
