220 Swift is still the King! I have shot this caliber for 45 years and have tried a lot of bullets in that time. My all time favorite is the Sierra 55 gr HPBT (#1390). I really like your 50 gr SPSX but if you push them hard they will come apart on you. 243 Win with the Barnes 80gr TTSX. This caliber I use for deer and antelope but it is hell in the totes as well. So, I shoot several depending on the hunting/calling situation but more often than not I am reaching for the Mighty Swift!
Seth thanks for bringing your boys to our tournament. It was great to meet you. 1. My go to predator/varmint round 22-250 50 or 55 grain vmax 2. I do use .223 in multiple platforms 3. My most accurate handload probably by accident in my sons rifle is .243 with 65 grain vmax over superformance powder. Happened upon it because when components were hard to come by it was what I had and it is awesome on dogs and yotes. 4. Not my favorite but its nasty, I have used 110 vmax in .270 Winchester 5. I also happened upon some 100 grain 7mm hornady hollow points which you no longer make. I jacked around and handloaded some in 7mm-08 and put 5 of 5 on steel 4×6 plate at 400 yards with a simple 9 power scope at our practice range just letting off stem after district wrestling. Thanks for the content, looking for a new rig can't decide between 22 or 6mm creed or ARC I keep going back and forth.
204 Ruger with 40gr Vmax all day and night. Fairly certain Mr. Emery would agree, that cartridge along with 17 HMR really launched Hornady forward from manufacturing everyone else's designs into becoming the leaders in 21 century bullet and ammo design. Cant wait to build a 22 ARC, keep up the great work guys.
Best coyote round is the one you're hunting with. Got one while deer hunting with my 30-30. I've had to pass them up with my 30-30 because they were just too far out, so now I hunt that area with my 6arc.
Whatever is in the truck when I get the opportunity, is always the perfect coyote cartridge. One time it was a 17 Hornet and another time it was a 338 Lapua magnum. The real difference was the amount of cleanup afterwards..😮
Good podcast. A little brand specific, but to be expected. 220 swift and 25-06 are two of my fav varmint cartridges. But the only coyote Ive shot was deer hunting with a muzzleloader at 75 yards offhand walking to a stand. Needless to say, DRT.
Man 220 Swift and 25-06 are a lot of medicine for tiny little dog. LOL Fantastic cartridges but seems like a lot of powder for a coyote. That said I would rather have too much than not enough.
My introduction to the Hornady Vmax was in 1995 i think.🤔 It was close to the release of the .17HMR. I bought a Marlin Model 917 and a couple cases of the Vmax, it was the only .17HMR on the market. I still have some of those original Vmax loads.👍
I'm going with 6 ARC this year. Handloading 90 grain ELD X. Getting 2900 fps from a 24 inch barrel in my AR. Work that load up for deer season. Stuck with it for coyotes because here in southeast Oklahoma we have a lot of pigs. Just like coyotes, pigs are always in season.
Hey Seth, come to New Zealand & go hunting all year round for whatever you fancy - apart from Wapiti, which I think is on a ballot system once a year. We have Red deer/Fallow deer/Rusa deer/Sika deer/goats/Chamois/Thar/rabbits/possums/pigs, & probably some I forget about. Oh yes, game birds as well!
I've always been a 22-250 guy, except last year, I decided to give the 6mm arc a go. 16.5" proof R. barrel XLR chassis silencer and a tripod, 108 match. Crazy accurate. I've been carrying the arc 50% of the time. I don't know, pretty crazy. The old Cooper might be put on the bench?
22 Nosler for the AR15 platform with 55 gr bullet. This cartridge got overlooked when it came out due to hype over the 224 Valkryie but I believe it's the fastest cartridge out of an AR15 platform behind only the 204. I'm getting 3560 out of a 22" barrel with factory ammo.
Always a hornady fan but my go to coyote load is 40gr nosler bt over 8208xbr out of .22-250 at 4225 fps. Zeroed at 250 yards it’s only an 1 1/2” high at 100. Hold on fur to 350!
Ive dropped at least two dozen Pronghorn doe at 300 to 400 yds with the 243W 95 gr VMax...drops them with minor damage to meat when put in the lungs...would be excellent for yotes too
5.56 with a 35gr NTX. 4,000fps (need a 1:12)! That’s my go to. It reminds me of the Vietnam era M-16 I was issued in the 70’s. It weighs nothing. It’s easy to overheat though. Just have to practice heat management.
rem 600 mohawk 18 ich carbine in 6 rem was my first centerfire i got from my pops almost 20 years ago. that what got me into reloading in my early 20s. i dont shoot it much anymore, but shot 100 interlocks for deer but never taken a yote with it.
110gr 308 is a honorable mention. Just so many long range setups still out there that have dropped tons of yotes with that setup before the 6.5 craze even began.
I'm down in Aus, and down here components are a pain. I recently built a 6x45 and brass (necking up 223) is cheap and easy. 6arc, 22creed, 6creed etc - either unavailable or over $2 a piece, sometimes well over. Sure, down here it's for foxes and wild dogs, not coyotes but similar pest size.
@@ontarget765 oh here in America there is a cartridge called the 6x47 lapua( I forgot it was 47 not 45) that is basically a 243 Winchester with a little less capacity. I thought you were talking about that. Anyhow in case there are none in Australia your not missing out by not having one. It was an option in competitive shooting until the creedmoors and the gt cartridges have pushed it further into obscurity. Several TH-camr’s have tried it saying accuracy was not up to their standards and they moved on. Sorry for the confusion.
.223 class is economical and it works. 220 Swift/22-250 class anchors them. 6ARC-6Creed-22ARC etc class brings new age ballistics that work reliably. But for an off the shelf, ammo everywhere, authoritative coyote anchor, the 243 is still the best option out there, and gets even better for handloaders. I wish I could put the 6Rem in there, but it missed it's mark on history and ammo variety/gun availability is limited anymore.
220 Swift with 60gr vmax. I have a couple of boxes of the SXs on the shelf not in the swift but for 223.. I like speed. That 53gr vmax is a good bullet as well as any of the 243s and can't get my hands on the 6.5 vxs yet Good video.
Great podcast once again. Yes the best " cartridge " is the one within reach . The best " bullet " is anything EldM. Basically the best all around bullet for crutters , steel , paper. They just flat out work !!

I just recently moved out to nowhere NW Kansas and setup my 18" 223 wylde to run 55gr Vmax for coyotes. Is there a major difference between 53gr as mentioned quite a bit in the video and 55gr?
I run same exact setup for suppressed nighthunting. Works great inside 250yds. Love Wylde chamber. Allows me to load Lake City millilatry brass on the cheap. I load max charge of Varget, Sub-moa at mag length.
Coyotee cartridge does not need to be modern or new or much of anything. It just needs to shoot faster and hit harder than a rim fire. So 243 and 6.5 Grendel are perfect for Coyotee. 109gr. Soft Point Winchester White/Silver Gray box in 243 is terrific! It is cheap, time tested to work on deer on down. The 6.5 Grendel anything from 95gr. to 129gr. all work great on deer on down. Nosler Partitions and Swift A Frames and Barnes solids are the way to go in the 6.5mm and you can go lighter and still have fantastic effect on game if you want more velocity. I can never find Hornady CX loaded ammo on the shelf in my life time and it is insanely expensive when I see it online. Cup and Core bullets are fine for coyotee's and deer but I dislike them for much else. Anyone that goes on about BC for a coyottee cartridge is not a proper hunter since BC is the least important bit of information one needs in selecting a proper hunting bullet for the task at hand. People that push BC above everything else usally have terrible hunting bullets and great target shooting bullets!
I just finished building an AR10 in 6.5 CM with a 22" Proof barrel that I call my 6.5 Speedmoor project. I'm averaging 3260 out of it with good precision. It's like having a semi auto 25-06.
@okist5986 Nice! Mine is Rem 700 5R. Barrel is extremely slow even though it's a 24" barrel. Only got 2560fps with 143gr ELD-X. So trying smaller bullet more powder
225 valkerie: 55 to 75 grain is amazeing out to 1200 yards and 75 to 90 grain is kill power for anything deer and smaller out t0 900. 3400 fps to 2880 fps 24 inch one in seven twist. A very flat wind fighter. I use a 80.5 burger at 3280 fps.
Feel that I am out on an island here but, the .224 valkyrie was not mentioned, is it the forgotten cartridge? Have the upper, will be working up loads just to see what ot can do!
Sadly 224 valkyrie has just petered out. The same will probably happen with 22 arc and 22 Creedmoor. They are just reinventing the wheel at this point. Good luck with your build. If you like something and can provide ammo go for it. 224 is a good round. I went with 204 ruger.
How do you like it for coyotes ? I'm really thinking about getting a 6.5 creedmore for coyotes and mule deer and elk. I'm out of colorado so everything is big here
Sadly no coyotes in Scotland, at least not 4 legged critters, but we do have foxes and they exhibit the same tactics as any predator, with either coming in favourably to the call or hanging way out yonder and that’s where my 22-284 with the 88ELD-x comes into its own, both in flat shooting and down range energy and more so with the thermal, as just hold on hair to 300yds, whereby, even with the rangefinder with ballistics, at up those ranges just not needed. I too have a 6mm Remington Ackley Improved custom built by Doug Shilen, giving very similar performance with an 85g SPS BT but loaded with 52-54grs RL22 or Norma MRP and now 53 N165 so was really puzzled to hear 42.5 of Varget with an 87 V Max ? which sounds much less than I would have loaded in a 243? The 87V Max is what we historically loaded in our 6-284 wildcats
I was told by a trapper a few years ago that it collapsed after Russia quit buying them. He said the market picks up a little whenever real fur is back in fashion but never like it was.
depends what you already own and if coats are required to be respected. 222 or 22 250 was a king choice years ago and 243 if coat wasnt an issue. If you already have these why change unless you just want to experiment. ok that is more calibre than cartridge factors but relevant then choose the cartridge factors
It is kinda funny that you don't talk about the 6mm Remington which was built to compete with the 243 Winchester back in the 50's while the 243 was a very popular round then and still is the 6mm Remington was more accurate and shot straighter and I believe it's velocity was faster it's cartridge case was taken from the 257 Roberts and using the 6mm/243 bullet I hear you talk about the 22-250 and how fast it is and man is it fast and some of the other 6mm/243 stuff but nothing about the 6mm remington my father was a custom varmint rifle builder in the 70's and 80's built a custom 222 remington, 22-250 and a 6mm remington using a german mauser action and custom barrel and a custom bolt I still have that rifle to this day
@@michaelsurratt9593 true but they still could have mentioned it and if you look at the comparisons you will find it is a better round because I look it up and was surprised to find that you would think if a round was better they would have market it a little better
i want to buy a 22 arc, but i already have a 204 ruger in 20 inches and its super flat for at night. I have had one runner at night but i havent killed enough to say i get too many runners, however i have questioned a couple shots on if i hit and it ran, but most hits anchors them, so i dont know, i probably missed.
My 6.5 ar10 pulsar thermal pushing 95 v max has rolled a lot of dogs. Want something lighter just can’t give up the knock down power. Do you guys have any 6.5 load that would be flatter than that one?
What is the cheapest round, 5.56 use to be 40 cents a round, 243 is like 1.20 around. So all the rounds you are talking about around 1.00 a round? I love the 17 Hmr, but I am moving to the 9mm out of a carbine, it cost less then the 17 Hmr. I like the sound of 22 ARC but what is the cost. I hate every time I pull the tiger I thro away a dollar. Any gun you use you must put a lot of rounds through it to know your gun.

22 Creedmoor, 22 arc is just reinventing the wheel. Make more ammo available for guns that has been around. None of the new rounds can do anything the 204 ruger, 22-250, 17hmr, 17wsm, 243, 22 hornet, 17 hornet and 17 remington, 220 swift, 222 magnum, last but not least 223/5.56. Just give us ammo for what has been around. Maybe some 35 remington. That would be really nice

Especially in a pre-64 Winchester.

I have a very old PO Ackley reloading manual. I love it!
not for coat preservation sorry. or ammo availability.
For me it’s the 22 Creedmoor with that 80gr ELDX. Or my custom load with a 60gr vmax. Out of my Horizon Vandel x 👍 good show guys.

Y'all shop at the same watch store? Great podcast!
I like the idea of a 308 with the 110vmax
Hornady America’s # 1 varmint people
I use the 6.5 creedmoor 129 grain for Coyoties!
The 87V Max is what we historically loaded in our 6-284 wildcats
why did the price of pelts collapse?
I was told by a trapper a few years ago that it collapsed after Russia quit buying them. He said the market picks up a little whenever real fur is back in fashion but never like it was.
When demand is low so are the prices
What are your thoughts on the.224 Valkyrie? I have a custom bolt action myself.
depends what you already own and if coats are required to be respected. 222 or 22 250 was a king choice years ago and 243 if coat wasnt an issue. If you already have these why change unless you just want to experiment. ok that is more calibre than cartridge factors but relevant then choose the cartridge factors
When is load data for the 22 Creedmoor coming?
I'm using 6.5 PRC
204 Ruger for the win
6mm DTI (necked down 6.8 SPC) w/ 65-70gr BT, 22 GT (closest youll get to 22-250 in Mil-spec AR15) 55gr BT SP, 22-250 55grn, 243 65-70 BT's, 6 Creed 87gr Vmax.
Interested to know how the .300 blackout with the 110 v-max experiment went....any update?
When will load data on the 22 ARC be available.
Hodgdon website.
@Iscariot18 yeah I have already looked through that. I want to see theirs.
It is kinda funny that you don't talk about the 6mm Remington which was built to compete with the 243 Winchester back in the 50's while the 243 was a very popular round then and still is the 6mm Remington was more accurate and shot straighter and I believe it's velocity was faster it's cartridge case was taken from the 257 Roberts and using the 6mm/243 bullet I hear you talk about the 22-250 and how fast it is and man is it fast and some of the other 6mm/243 stuff but nothing about the 6mm remington my father was a custom varmint rifle builder in the 70's and 80's built a custom 222 remington, 22-250 and a 6mm remington using a german mauser action and custom barrel and a custom bolt I still have that rifle to this day
Remington failed in marketing and Winchester didn’t. 6mm is at least as good as the .243. Winchester won the marketing war.
@@michaelsurratt9593 true but they still could have mentioned it and if you look at the comparisons you will find it is a better round because I look it up and was surprised to find that you would think if a round was better they would have market it a little better
Try some periods😅
i want to buy a 22 arc, but i already have a 204 ruger in 20 inches and its super flat for at night. I have had one runner at night but i havent killed enough to say i get too many runners, however i have questioned a couple shots on if i hit and it ran, but most hits anchors them, so i dont know, i probably missed.
Any plans for a 75 grain ELD VT or VMax in a 22 caliber?
.243 Win 80 grain and 10 ga 4 buck for me!
I agree it is the rife or pistol next to you which can make a good coyote gun.😳
22 CM when i re-barrel my Rem 783 223 (1:9 twist not fast enough for the new 62gr ELD VT)
When will you make a 77 gr otm .224 bullet?
I’m currently running a .224 valkyrie
My 6.5 ar10 pulsar thermal pushing 95 v max has rolled a lot of dogs. Want something lighter just can’t give up the knock down power. Do you guys have any 6.5 load that would be flatter than that one?
Check out the 100 gr ELD-VT if you're a hand loader, or we also load it in the V-Match line of ammo. New for 24'
50gr. Vmax isn’t a slouch on Hogs either. They LOVE ear shots.
Load the 110CX in that .300BO. Fantastic results. Not saying you should, but I’ve seen 2500fps
90gr blitzking 25-06 at 3600ish fps!!
🕵️♂️ While I'm a 270 Winchester Fan, This is The Same Cartridge Family! Powders You May Want to Try Include: Hunter, Big Game, 4350, H4350, Norma 204, Staball 6.5, Superformance, and Reloader 16! You Could Use That 75 grain Horneday V-Max Too and Get It Close to 3,800 ft/s, With The Right Powder! 🔥
love my 22 creedmoor
“Fragmenty” … you mean frangible?
204 and 243
My main 2 rigs ..love them both ..
I stay with my 22-250 with 55 gr BT boat tail.
Yall need 6mm arc “varmint express “line with the 58gr v max 😮💨
.224 80gr ELD-X ?
617 Spitfire 103 ELD X 3266fps
Nosler ballistic tip > Hornady vmax
Used BT for years. Very accurate and perform great on deer, antelope and coyotes.
I remember the old 17 say remember the old 17 Remington 223 casing neck down to
22 Creedmoor, 22 arc is just reinventing the wheel.
Man ehat about yhe blitz Kings from sierra!?!?
It’s a Hornady show. They’re not going to promote the competition’s products
