Where did Teddy go? So I did all the math, and Teddy starts Hogwarts in 2008, since he was born in 1997. He would finish school in 2015. The play he is talking about is starts in 2017, and ends in 2021. So Teddy would be around his 20s during the events of the fan fiction play. Again, where is he!!!
I call it nothing more than fan fiction, but I also use the adjective "terrible" in front of it. TERRIBLE fan fiction. It makes my entire being ache that The Cursed Child exists. lol

I cannot express how much I hated Cedric being a death eater. The unicorn killed in the first book is meant to represent him "always the innocent are the first to be killed", he was meant to be pure and kind and brave. Knowing that he had the capability to become a death eater (and just because he lost the tournament and got embarrassed) devalues his death and dumbledores quote "if you ever have to make a decision between what is right and what is easy; remember Cedric, remember what happened to a boy that was good and brave, because he strayed across the path of Voldemort"
100% agree, as soon as he appeared in prisoner of azkaban he showed kindness, seeing harry was hurt he tried to call off the match, even though he won fair and square, so many examples of cedric being a kind, brave character, he would never do such a bad thing

Yeah that's the message that Jack Thorne is passing. It tells us that Hermione can succeed because of Ron. Hermione can stand on her own. She is strong and independent woman. But Jack Thorne makes her seem as if she was still asking for respect. Like for real? Hermione did so much that every witch would want to be like her. No Cedric Diggory I read about in the book would never do that.

I found a decent compromise: Accepting the stuff I liked about it as being canon until proven otherwise, and completely forgetting everything else. For example, Scorpius turning out to be a total goober and best friends with Albus? Awesome and I love it. Harry and Draco being forced to grudgingly set aside their differences because of their kids' unexpected friendship? It's a real nice way to progress their characters into adulthood. Pretty much everything else though? It can go hang.
I also love those things about the story. Albus being in Slytherin and besties with Scorpius is an awesome concept. Love the play as something to see at the theatre. Story is ridiculous us and not good and definitely not canon.
Albus and Scorpius should’ve still became friends, but more gradually. There’s absolutely no way that someone like Scorpius could go on to trust anyone right away because they sat in his compartment, especially if it’s a Potter. Albus should be the one worried about Scorpius. He knows what it’s like to be outcasted and should look out for Scorpius.

I believe that it is an alternate universe where certain things are different, like time-travel and such, but it is not canon to the movies or the main books.
The only things I consider canon from the abomination are Scorp's character, Albus being a Slytherin, their friendship and Draco's parenting. Everything else, imo, is total bullshit.

The reason I don't believe that cursed child is canon is that Harry would never tell his kids that he is tired of them (or whatever he said to albus, I don't remember). He had an abusive and lonely childhood with the dursleys. They made it known to him that he wasn't loved. He has felt that pain and would make sure that his children would NEVER EVER feel it too.

It is just expressing my personal views. Also, it wasn’t my intention to make this comment so long. Sorry! Now that that’s said, onto my comment. Here is where I have to(SLIGHTLY) disagree with you. Harry may not be abusive in the physical sense. But you can see there are aspects of his fatherhood that mirror the Dursleys parental choices. But before I get into this, I’m going to be pulling from personal experience to explain. I have grown up with alcoholism. My grandfathers an alcoholic. My dads an alcoholic. Neither are kind when drunk. My grandmother will lecture you to hell and back about how you should never drink, and all the negative alcohol can bring, but will do absolutely nothing to stop my grandfather from buying alcohol, or consuming it. My mum grew up with this. And you can see mirrored views in my mum. She hates drinking, will call my dad out when he’s been drinking. But, I firmly believe, because how my grandmother never did anything to stop my grandfather(in what I have seen, growing up in their house), has shaped my mums view that believing things like beer and wine aren’t too bad for my dad to drink. The cycle continued with my sister up until a few years ago, when she and my brother-in-law quit drinking. Basically, my brother-in-law would put buying alcohol as an essential, right up there with food. But because the cycle evolves as the generations go on, she would actively give her own money for my brother-in-law to buy alcohol. Three different generations, all shaped by alcohol. Against it to the end, but do nothing, or say nothing until confronted with it, in the form of drunken anger. Recycled patterns. Each a slightly different form, but the same pattern. Back to Harry Potter. He may not want to be anything like the Dursleys, and may actively try to be everything they weren’t, and nothing they were. But here’s the thing, they were, essentially, his parental figures since he was one. We do see him mirroring some of their behavioural patterns. He grew up, treated differently, because he was different. Something they didn’t like. He saw Dudley get the world, not only for being their own child, but being normal, while, he was treated poorly because he was different, though not knowing how until his 11th birthday. It is because Harry was different that caused his mistreatment, in my eyes. Petunia left Lily high and dry when she found out about Lily’s magic pretty much. Had Lily been muggle, I genuinely don’t believe she would treat Harry the way she does. It is that ‘Different is wrong.’ attitude we see Harry mirror in Cursed Child. He’s had a prejudice against Slytherins right from his first day in the wizarding world. The infamous line of “There ain’t a witch or wizard gone bad that weren’t from Slytherin.” Albus sorted into Slytherin makes him different. And not only different, but a form of different he does not like. The same form of difference, that the Dursleys were given when Harry arrived on their door step. Harry Potter, whether he knows it or not, intends to or not, likes it or not, learned from the only parental figures he had during the crucial childhood stage of learning behaviour, to view difference in children negatively. Especially the difference he does not like. We at least see him admit his wrongful behaviour to Albus in the end, and what appears to them both actively trying for a better relationship. So here is the part I do agree with you. He would absolutely not intentionally let his child feel unloved, and it appears that he will do everything in his power to make sure Albus knows this now. As for do I see Cursed Child as canon? Yes, I do. It has JK’s seal of approval. Approval it would not have gotten if she didn’t, well, approve of it. I doubt she would work so closely with the play if she didn’t approve of the story. THAT BEING SAID, I view it as an entirely different form of canon, completely separate from the original series. It is not fan fiction. It is not in line with the original series. It is, in my eyes, a form of canon unto its own. I could go on. But I feel I’ve made this comment to long already. Again, I am not trying to be rude, just put forth my views(and personal experiences) on the topic of learned behaviour being separate of child abuse.

Time travel in fiction usually works one of three ways: 1) Causal loop; think Terminator 2) Butterfly effect; think BTTF 3) Multiverse; think DragonballZ In the POA book/movie, time turners fall into the first category, while in TCC, they fall into the second. So, yes, the mechanics do contract canon.
I’m not going to lie, I enjoyed reading the cursed child, however only as a stand-alone manuscript. Once you consider the other novels, the cursed child seems more like a poorly thought out fan-fic In a similar vein to the sequel trilogy of Star Wars.

When I read Harry telling Albus he wished that Albus wasn't his son, I BROKE the pencil I was holding in anger. Who else here DESPISES the Cursed Child?

We are talking about this Hermione Granger who did so many things. She would already have a respect. Instead Thorne puts her down to make it seem as if she can succeed only if she is with Ron. Ginny not having a say in Harry's decision to split Albus and Scorpius. Why isn't she in the Hospital Wing as well? No it just doesn't add up.

@@M-T-123 Actually the point of the Harry Potter series as a whole is watching Harry transform himself to ultimate enlightenment. The seven books takes us through the seven stages of Alchemy until Harry becomes "Gold" He has all the answers at the end of book 7, and we are constantly seeing how much wiser Harry is, or how morally Just he becomes. Dumbledore himself admits to Harry that Harry is the greater man of the two of them, that Harry alone is worthy of the Hallows, something he was not worthy of. We also see constantly in the series how Harry analyzes other people (like all four Marauders for example) and points out their character flaws (James and Sirius for Bullying, Peter for being a traitor, Lupin for being a coward), when he confronts Sirius about what he saw in Snapes worst memory, he rejects the notion of James being young as a reason for his mean actions, claiming that he himself was at the moment the same age as James was in the memory. This is for us the readers to also see how Harry Morally compares to other kids his own age. We read from Harry's perspective that The Marauders actions should not be normal, when in reality it's Harry who is beyond his age in Wisdom, and Morality. So of all mistakes possible for Harry to make, a moral mistake on a characters judgement post book 7 is so unbelievably unlikely, and most definitely not with someone like Minerva whom he has known for most of his life. Harry is by the end of the Harry Potter series a symbol of Justice Cursed Child is not canon, and Harry would never have told this to McGonagall!
I haven't watched the video yet, but I can tell you right now that the answer is no, that book is not canon. I don't give a fuck what Rowling has to say about the matter. It just doesn't make any sense, it's far too contradictory, and I'm assuming that she's just defending the work because it technically has her name on it, despite her not actually writing it.

We all know the only canon thing is that Scorpius and Albus become best friends and force their families to realize the others aren’t that bad. That’s it. Nothing else.
Even that idea was a bit too cheesy for me. Would’ve been better if we at least got some time at Hogwarts in the play and maybe had Albus befriend Scorpius after his sorting in Slytherin. Would’ve made sense for Albus to trust him after he himself had become an outcast.

Now I’ve seen arguments that say “oh well he went through a war. Wars change people!” And I understand that point of view, I get it. But Harry wouldn’t open up to feelings like the mood swings of the lengths of this book. Harry just loves bottling up feelings but not shaking them to make them explode, no he bottles them up and saves all the crying and ranting for another time, especially if someone else is feeling bad. I have this sort of headcannon that Harry feels others emotions are more important than his and should be treated as such. The Harry in the Cursed Child is a Harry that instead of using the bottle up store away strategy he just explodes constantly. Sorry this is so long I wanted to get thoughts out

Waiting in the bookstore was actually the best part. I met another Hufflepuff who I still text to this day, there was butterbeer, cosplay and everyone was just incredibly friendly. I even saw a guy dressed as Mad Eye Moody, jinxed him and he laughed. I told him that he wasn’t being constantly vigilant and he laughed even harder. It was amazing and the only time I was at a Harry Potter event like that.
Same! Mine wasn't as special as yours but I did cosplay and I met nice people I talked with, it was a great moment. When the books came out I wasn't really old enough to do something like that. (I picked up the 7th book, that mum had pre-ordered, from an empty bookstore on the day of release, I didn't wait in line for the exact minute they would start selling it.) Anyway Harry Potter fans are super nice and it's always pleasant to talk to them. I don't like the Cursed Child very much at all, but I decided to keep it in my bookshelf simply because of the great memories associated with the day I got my copy.
Really? Maybe that depends on what country you're from. I'm from a smaller country, so there is a real sense of community in the fandom. Almost everyone is friendly and happy to meet other fans.
The writers had so many amazing characters and settings to explore, this play could have been an amazing story, but instead, we got stuck with a weird time travel story that's worse than any fanfiction I've ever read.
I mean, according to that story, Harry has a pet ghost, and is blind after tearing his eyes out, Ron is a cannibal, and Hermione just cannot climb. Also the pig of Hufflepuff, whatever it is, is Hagrid now. #HPATPOWLLALPOAforcanon

Also, fun fact! The opening scenes of the play (i.e. the final chapter of the TDH) directly contradicts the book. Not only are several lines added (many of them to make Ron look dumber), but preexisting lines are given to the wrong characters. For example: In the play Hermione tells Rose to "give neville our love" rather than Ginny telling James. Anything that directly contradicts the books is not cannon if you ask me.
So if the movies followed the books a little more closer than they do (which they do the whole give lines to the wrong characters and actually cut out characters from the books that are over with the fans) then each movie would be 3 to 4 hours long which each movie is approximate 2 hours each. I doubt anyone would watch it so stop with the ‘because it’s the internet I will bitch all I want’ and appreciate what you have no capacity to create.

If Harry could feel Voldemort’s emotions and sometimes see things from his perspective, was it a possibility that Harry could’ve seen Voldemort and Bellatrix getting down and making Delphi? here's my version of cursed child so instead of Cedrics dad coming to see harry, teddy does. this leads album and scorpius into using the time turner to save Remus and Tonks, (and also saving Sirius black in the process)
I'm divided over Cursed Child. I liked it at the time because I hadn't read Harry Potter in ages so it was just a really fun nostalgia trip for me. I liked Albus being in Slytherin and being friends with Scorpius, and I also loved Draco's redemption arc, and how he and Harry made up. Delphi was the main thing I had an issue with.
jkr has many opinions about the wizarding world that i don't personally agree with, "cursed child is canon" being one of them. all your reasons are solid and honestly my biggest one is harry saying that and being a super shitty parent. LOOK, we saw him be an amazing encouraging teacher in ootp, and even though his character includes sometimes lashing out, even when he was FIFTEEN that didn't happen when he was trying to nurture and encourage his friends. sure being a parent is different and demanding and all that and i'm sure he'd make mistakes, every parent does, but you can't tell me he would say THAT. not in a million years. nope.
Yes! This! Harry's characterization is so wrong in so many ways! Are you telling me that Harry who always loved to be a detective, and solve mysteries would just blindly listen to Bane without figuring things out for himself? Would threaten McGonagall, a person he respects so much, with Ministry action, after being a victim of the Ministry's injustice himself? Harry had a temper, but he was so quick to recognize his flaws, he was one of the most forgiving people in the whole series, and was never cruel or hurtful to anyone. Yeah, exactly, even at the end of the last Harry Potter, he was encouraging his son about being sly Theron and all that. Harry is less of a sit there and contemplate than a go getter. I think having Harry say that to his son, Albus, pissed me off the most! The thing he wanted most in life was a family. Regardless of what his kid did he would not have said that to him! The only thing I really enjoyed is Albus being put in Slytherin and becoming friends with Scorpius. Other than that, I do not consider it canon. Besides the whole plot and everything, most of the characters were so off to me, like Rose, for example. I also don't understand why they had to create new characters but made no mention of Hugo, Lily or Teddy. Tbh, I've read so many fanfics that successfully retain the feel of Harry Potter, stay true to characters and past events, while creating their own new storylines. The main thing I don't get is why JK was okay with the time-turner thing after stating she regretted using it in PoA.

Jane Hopper That is simply not true. Firstly, it is unclear whether the Sorting Hat was aware a piece of Voldemort’s soul resides in Harry. Putting the horcrux aside, Harry still exhibited many traits sought after by Salazar Slytherin when selecting students. Slytherin house is known for students that are ambitious, clever and cunning. Not to mention being shrewd, strong leaders and achievement-oriented, which Harry definitely is regardless of the piece of Voldemort’s soul in him. Also his cleverness, resourcefulness, determination, and “certain disregard for the rules” make him a reasonably perfect candidate for Slytherin house. What set Harry apart was the fact that given the opportunity, he would rather save those he loves and be put in harms way than save his own neck. Harry is a perfectly acceptable candidate for Slytherin house without even acknowledging the bit of Voldemort’s soul. And if Albus was like his father at all, he very well may have been sorted into Slytherin.

The reason Harry Potter is so amazing and can never be topped, is not only the amazing planning behind the series, but also that it is a compilation of all magical and mythical, you know, myths. It takes all of the little scaps of unrelated creatures, magic, and other items and sowes them all together so well, in our world.
I reread the Harry Potter series when I got the cursed child so I could read it right after finishing the deathly hallows. I was SO EXCITED when I finished the deathly hallows because I'm use to the series being over after that and this time I had 1 more book. But the cursed child literally ruined the series for me. It took me about an hour to finish and when I was done I threw the book at the wall and hated myself for wasting that hour of my life and ruining the end of my favorite series. I felt like I just found out that my boyfriend cheated on me with my best friend and for 3 months after that I was dealing with the heart break.
My cousin Reg is a huge Harry Potter nerd. He lent me HPatCC, I tried to give it back but he wouldn't take it. I read it then put it in a drawer underneath a bunch of other stuff, and there it will lie until the end of time.
To me The Cursed Child is a Story they took and made a Fanfic out of it. The relationship between the kids at the start is ok and then BOOM fanfic. Plus, Voldemort wouldn't have a Child. Like that is just no. He is too self centered to even touch Bellatrix. And I doubt he wanted just sexual Pleasure from her either. So Delfi imo is not Voldy's daughter. Maybe she thinks she is. But she's not. No way in the Dingo she is. Nope nope. And the fact that Neville is Killed doesn't say much either as ANY WORTHY GRYFFINDOR can take the sword out of the Hat. So someone else could've gotten the Hat after Neville Died or even if He died before someone else who was worthy got the Hat and could've killed Nagini... Like idk Hermione or Ron? Its a nice story, as a fanfic. But I do not consider it Cannon. Its not thought through well and its riddled with Plot holes and contradictions to the actual story.
Not only the self-centered-ness, but Voldemort is literally obsessed with becoming immortal, that's his entire goal and motivation. The idea that he'd sire an heir just in case he did die is laughable because he'd never consider it necessary. Plus he's definitely too confident (arguably arrogant) to even consider the possibility he'd fail at his goal to the point an heir would be needed.

I was so very disappinted in that book. Let’s start where you did with Cedric becoming a Death Eater, that’s just wrong on so many levels. Neville dying would have been a tragic loss but not more, maybe even less then the deaths of Lupin, Tonks, and Fred. Not too belittle his feat of killing that evil demon snake like a boss, but if he hadn’t been there I’m sure Harry would have given someone else the task. I’m sure out there somewhere in the entire wizarding school there had to be one wizard who could have decapitated the vile creature! I don’t think the Snape thing makes sense either and there is the bootstrap paradox to consider. Also they have a cray cray assassin lady that will attack children trying to get off the train with claws and explosives, too protect the children on the train?.. what genius came up with that security measure? But my main problem with the story isn’t even the lack of canon it’s the lack of story telling. I mean they basically skip over three years of schooling and adventure potential in the span of a small chapter?! Disgraceful! On top of that they made Cedric a Death Eater, Hermione a Class A bitch, and Harry a dead failure. Talk about character assassination, they just don’t care who they destroy in the reader’s eyes!

The unicorn killed in the first book is meant to represent him "always the innocent are the first to be killed", he was meant to be pure and kind and brave. Knowing that he had the capability to become a death eater (and just because he lost the tournament and got embarrassed) devalues his death and dumbledores quote "if you ever have to make a decision between what is right and what is easy; remember Cedric, remember what happened to a boy that was good and brave, because he strayed across the path of Voldemort"

I found a decent compromise: Accepting the stuff I liked about it as being canon until proven otherwise, and completely forgetting everything else. For example, Scorpius turning out to be a total goober and best friends with Albus? Awesome and I love it. Harry and Draco being forced to grudgingly set aside their differences because of their kids' unexpected friendship? It's a real nice way to progress their characters into adulthood. Pretty much everything else though? It can go hang.

Albus and Scorpius should’ve still became friends, but more gradually. There’s absolutely no way that someone like Scorpius could go on to trust anyone right away because they sat in his compartment, especially if it’s a Potter. Albus should be the one worried about Scorpius. He knows what it’s like to be outcasted and should look out for Scorpius.

The reason I don't believe that cursed child is canon is that Harry would never tell his kids that he is tired of them (or whatever he said to albus, I don't remember). He had an abusive and lonely childhood with the dursleys. They made it known to him that he wasn't loved. He has felt that pain and would make sure that his children would NEVER EVER feel it too.

Now that that’s said, onto my comment.
Here is where I have to(SLIGHTLY) disagree with you. Harry may not be abusive in the physical sense. But you can see there are aspects of his fatherhood that mirror the Dursleys parental choices. But before I get into this, I’m going to be pulling from personal experience to explain.
I have grown up with alcoholism. My grandfathers an alcoholic. My dads an alcoholic. Neither are kind when drunk.
My grandmother will lecture you to hell and back about how you should never drink, and all the negative alcohol can bring, but will do absolutely nothing to stop my grandfather from buying alcohol, or consuming it.
My mum grew up with this. And you can see mirrored views in my mum. She hates drinking, will call my dad out when he’s been drinking. But, I firmly believe, because how my grandmother never did anything to stop my grandfather(in what I have seen, growing up in their house), has shaped my mums view that believing things like beer and wine aren’t too bad for my dad to drink.
The cycle continued with my sister up until a few years ago, when she and my brother-in-law quit drinking. Basically, my brother-in-law would put buying alcohol as an essential, right up there with food. But because the cycle evolves as the generations go on, she would actively give her own money for my brother-in-law to buy alcohol.
Three different generations, all shaped by alcohol. Against it to the end, but do nothing, or say nothing until confronted with it, in the form of drunken anger. Recycled patterns. Each a slightly different form, but the same pattern.
Back to Harry Potter. He may not want to be anything like the Dursleys, and may actively try to be everything they weren’t, and nothing they were.
But here’s the thing, they were, essentially, his parental figures since he was one. We do see him mirroring some of their behavioural patterns.
He grew up, treated differently, because he was different. Something they didn’t like. He saw Dudley get the world, not only for being their own child, but being normal, while, he was treated poorly because he was different, though not knowing how until his 11th birthday.
It is because Harry was different that caused his mistreatment, in my eyes. Petunia left Lily high and dry when she found out about Lily’s magic pretty much. Had Lily been muggle, I genuinely don’t believe she would treat Harry the way she does.
It is that ‘Different is wrong.’ attitude we see Harry mirror in Cursed Child. He’s had a prejudice against Slytherins right from his first day in the wizarding world. The infamous line of “There ain’t a witch or wizard gone bad that weren’t from Slytherin.”
Albus sorted into Slytherin makes him different. And not only different, but a form of different he does not like. The same form of difference, that the Dursleys were given when Harry arrived on their door step.
Harry Potter, whether he knows it or not, intends to or not, likes it or not, learned from the only parental figures he had during the crucial childhood stage of learning behaviour, to view difference in children negatively. Especially the difference he does not like.
We at least see him admit his wrongful behaviour to Albus in the end, and what appears to them both actively trying for a better relationship.
So here is the part I do agree with you. He would absolutely not intentionally let his child feel unloved, and it appears that he will do everything in his power to make sure Albus knows this now.
As for do I see Cursed Child as canon? Yes, I do. It has JK’s seal of approval. Approval it would not have gotten if she didn’t, well, approve of it. I doubt she would work so closely with the play if she didn’t approve of the story.
THAT BEING SAID, I view it as an entirely different form of canon, completely separate from the original series.
It is not fan fiction. It is not in line with the original series. It is, in my eyes, a form of canon unto its own.
I could go on. But I feel I’ve made this comment to long already. Again, I am not trying to be rude, just put forth my views(and personal experiences) on the topic of learned behaviour being separate of child abuse.

2) Butterfly effect; think BTTF
3) Multiverse; think DragonballZ
In the POA book/movie, time turners fall into the first category, while in TCC, they fall into the second. So, yes, the mechanics do contract canon.

The seven books takes us through the seven stages of Alchemy until Harry becomes "Gold" He has all the answers at the end of book 7, and we are constantly seeing how much wiser Harry is, or how morally Just he becomes. Dumbledore himself admits to Harry that Harry is the greater man of the two of them, that Harry alone is worthy of the Hallows, something he was not worthy of. We also see constantly in the series how Harry analyzes other people (like all four Marauders for example) and points out their character flaws (James and Sirius for Bullying, Peter for being a traitor, Lupin for being a coward), when he confronts Sirius about what he saw in Snapes worst memory, he rejects the notion of James being young as a reason for his mean actions, claiming that he himself was at the moment the same age as James was in the memory. This is for us the readers to also see how Harry Morally compares to other kids his own age. We read from Harry's perspective that The Marauders actions should not be normal, when in reality it's Harry who is beyond his age in Wisdom, and Morality. So of all mistakes possible for Harry to make, a moral mistake on a characters judgement post book 7 is so unbelievably unlikely, and most definitely not with someone like Minerva whom he has known for most of his life. Harry is by the end of the Harry Potter series a symbol of Justice Cursed Child is not canon, and Harry would never have told this to McGonagall!

Even that idea was a bit too cheesy for me. Would’ve been better if we at least got some time at Hogwarts in the play and maybe had Albus befriend Scorpius after his sorting in Slytherin. Would’ve made sense for Albus to trust him after he himself had become an outcast.

It is NOT a fun side story. It wasn’t fun at all to see Harry telling Albus that he wished he weren’t his son. It wasn’t fun to see Harry yell at Ginny and McGonnigal. Waiting in the bookstore was actually the best part. I met another Hufflepuff who I still text to this day, there was butterbeer, cosplay and everyone was just incredibly friendly. I even saw a guy dressed as Mad Eye Moody, jinxed him and he laughed. I told him that he wasn’t being constantly vigilant and he laughed even harder. It was amazing and the only time I was at a Harry Potter event like that.

Same! Mine wasn't as special as yours but I did cosplay and I met nice people I talked with, it was a great moment. When the books came out I wasn't really old enough to do something like that. (I picked up the 7th book, that mum had pre-ordered, from an empty bookstore on the day of release, I didn't wait in line for the exact minute they would start selling it.) Anyway Harry Potter fans are super nice and it's always pleasant to talk to them. I don't like the Cursed Child very much at all, but I decided to keep it in my bookshelf simply because of the great memories associated with the day I got my copy.
Really? Maybe that depends on what country you're from. I'm from a smaller country, so there is a real sense of community in the fandom. Almost everyone is friendly and happy to meet other fans.
The writers had so many amazing characters and settings to explore, this play could have been an amazing story, but instead, we got stuck with a weird time travel story that's worse than any fanfiction I've ever read.

Also, fun fact! The opening scenes of the play (i.e. the final chapter of the TDH) directly contradicts the book. Not only are several lines added (many of them to make Ron look dumber), but preexisting lines are given to the wrong characters. For example: In the play Hermione tells Rose to "give neville our love" rather than Ginny telling James. Anything that directly contradicts the books is not cannon if you ask me.

I'm divided over Cursed Child. I liked it at the time because I hadn't read Harry Potter in ages so it was just a really fun nostalgia trip for me. I liked Albus being in Slytherin and being friends with Scorpius, and I also loved Draco's redemption arc, and how he and Harry made up. Delphi was the main thing I had an issue with.

jkr has many opinions about the wizarding world that i don't personally agree with, "cursed child is canon" being one of them. all your reasons are solid and honestly my biggest one is harry saying that and being a super shitty parent. LOOK, we saw him be an amazing encouraging teacher in ootp, and even though his character includes sometimes lashing out, even when he was FIFTEEN that didn't happen when he was trying to nurture and encourage his friends. sure being a parent is different and demanding and all that and i'm sure he'd make mistakes, every parent does, but you can't tell me he would say THAT. not in a million years. nope.

Are you telling me that Harry who always loved to be a detective, and solve mysteries would just blindly listen to Bane without figuring things out for himself? Harry had a temper, but he was so quick to recognize his flaws, he was one of the most forgiving people in the whole series, and was never cruel or hurtful to anyone. Tbh, I've read so many fanfics that successfully retain the feel of Harry Potter, stay true to characters and past events, while creating their own new storylines. The main thing I don't get is why JK was okay with the time-turner thing after stating she regretted using it in PoA.

Putting the horcrux aside, Harry still exhibited many traits sought after by Salazar Slytherin when selecting students. Slytherin house is known for students that are ambitious, clever and cunning. Not to mention being shrewd, strong leaders and achievement-oriented, which Harry definitely is regardless of the piece of Voldemort’s soul in him. Also his cleverness, resourcefulness, determination, and “certain disregard for the rules” make him a reasonably perfect candidate for Slytherin house. What set Harry apart was the fact that given the opportunity, he would rather save those he loves and be put in harms way than save his own neck. And if Albus was like his father at all, he very well may have been sorted into Slytherin.

The reason Harry Potter is so amazing and can never be topped, is not only the amazing planning behind the series, but also that it is a compilation of all magical and mythical, you know, myths. It takes all of the little scaps of unrelated creatures, magic, and other items and sowes them all together so well, in our world.

I reread the Harry Potter series when I got the cursed child so I could read it right after finishing the deathly hallows. I was SO EXCITED when I finished the deathly hallows because I'm use to the series being over after that and this time I had 1 more book. But the cursed child literally ruined the series for me. It took me about an hour to finish and when I was done I threw the book at the wall and hated myself for wasting that hour of my life and ruining the end of my favorite series. I felt like I just found out that my boyfriend cheated on me with my best friend and for 3 months after that I was dealing with the heart break.

To me The Cursed Child is a Story they took and made a Fanfic out of it. The relationship between the kids at the start is ok and then BOOM fanfic. Plus, Voldemort wouldn't have a Child. Like that is just no. He is too self centered to even touch Bellatrix. And I doubt he wanted just sexual Pleasure from her either. So Delfi imo is not Voldy's daughter. Maybe she thinks she is. But she's not. No way in the Dingo she is. Nope nope.
And the fact that Neville is Killed doesn't say much either as ANY WORTHY GRYFFINDOR can take the sword out of the Hat. So someone else could've gotten the Hat after Neville Died or even if He died before someone else who was worthy got the Hat and could've killed Nagini... Like idk Hermione or Ron? Its a nice story, as a fanfic. But I do not consider it Cannon. Its not thought through well and its riddled with Plot holes and contradictions to the actual story.
Not only the self-centered-ness, but Voldemort is literally obsessed with becoming immortal, that's his entire goal and motivation. The idea that he'd sire an heir just in case he did die is laughable because he'd never consider it necessary. Plus he's definitely too confident (arguably arrogant) to even consider the possibility he'd fail at his goal to the point an heir would be needed.

As Far As I See It,The Movies Are Canon: Just A DIFFERENT Canon. Like,It's Just A Different Universe Where Some Things Happened/Happened Slightly Differently Than The Books (Example: Ron Telling Harry About Slytherin And Not Hagrid).
@@JT5555 That doesn't make sense though. There can only be one set of events in the true HP universe. The movies are just a dramatization based on the 'true' events in the book. Just like all movies based on true events, twist certain facts to make it better viewing experience. Although the movie changed a lot of things for no good reason at all as well..
The movies are fun but if you are concerned about getting the actual legit story, you have to read the books. The movies are like a nice compliment to having read the books cause you get to see it on screen in live action to some extent.

Neville dying would have been a tragic loss but not more, maybe even less then the deaths of Lupin, Tonks, and Fred. Not too belittle his feat of killing that evil demon snake like a boss, but if he hadn’t been there I’m sure Harry would have given someone else the task. I’m sure out there somewhere in the entire wizarding school there had to be one wizard who could have decapitated the vile creature!
