We mess awe up, as we associate it with material conditions and our emotional responses to those material conditions. We don't realize that it's our true fundamental nature and that we can train our minds to sit in it at will.

Why can't you find awe in rationality? Empirical insight and asking hard questions have transformed society in truly awe inspiring ways. I think these men's view of awe is rather limited.

my view: rationality arises from intellect. Which is mankind's work. Awe is only inspired from something greater than us. Greater than an individual. Even when the greatest painters or musicians or any performer performs awe inspiring work - we attribute that work to the divine aka infinite intelligence. We as humans can't "think" our way into greatness. Greatness can only manifest "through" us. We can only invite awe inspiring work to happen. We can't "make" it happen.
