Mo Gawdat's Happiness Formula: Retrain Your Brain to Be Happy Now

  • Is happiness a choice? And if so, can it be engineered? Mo Gawdat, former Chief Business Officer of Google X and founder of One Billion Happy, believes this is true. In fact, he's used his three decades of success in the tech industry to engineer his very own "happiness algorithm" to help all of us achieve this mind frame.
Gawdat began his mission to conquer happiness after experiencing the ultimate tragedy. In 2014, Mo suddenly lost his beloved son, Ali, which thrust him into depression and an existential reckoning with life's fragility. Rather than succumbing to this ultimate despair, Gawdat turned his grief into a catalyst for transformation. He soon embarked on a profound journey of self-discovery and healing, driven by a newfound mission to spread happiness and well-being to the world.
Drawing from his personal experience and extensive research, Mo has authored the international bestseller "Solve for Happy: Engineer Your Path to Joy” and continues to champion his message of happiness to millions worldwide. Via his writing, speaking engagements, and podcast, Gawdat offers practical tools and strategies for finding joy in the face of adversity.Mo's commitment to spreading happiness has touched millions of lives. He continues to inspire people from all walks of life to embrace happiness as a fundamental choice, as well as empower them to engineer their own paths to fulfillment.
Tony and Sage Robbins are excited to share this special presentation from a 2022 private event with their Platinum Partners in Mexico. Let Mo Gawdat’s poignant insights help you create your own happiness journey today!

I also lost a son. It hit me when you said , its the most painful thing a human can go through. I know I lost my partner and son 2 days before Christmas of 2002 in a car crash. It's weird Mo I also worked at Microsoft as a PFE from 2008 to 2018 - everything changed for me too in a good way. I should'nt have been successful and had no educational excellence - your life story resonates with mine so much !! Thank you for what you have done - your a lovely human being!!!!

Mo Gawdat's message resonates deeply! His perspective on happiness as an internal state rather than a result of external events is a paradigm shift. I appreciate his practical approach to retraining the brain for happiness. The reminder to focus on solutions rather than dwelling on problems is invaluable. A must-watch for anyone seeking genuine happiness!

Thank you for this. I appreciate learning about happiness or any life lessons from someone who is winning at life, and who has had to deal with tremendous loss and hardships.
Having fun (dopamine hits) to escape the unhappiness is something we see quite often in the world. I'm glad you mentioned this and help steer us on the right path.
Also, the Netflix analogy of "Unhappiness on demand" with replaying bad memories is so true (and funny).

Impressive insight! Gawdat's message is crucial for families. Encourage open communication, share your experiences, and demonstrate the behaviors you wish your children to adopt. Highlighting positive growth and ensuring they feel understood without judgment is key. Also, creating an environment where they can freely express their feelings without fear is vital. Remember, they learn more from what you do than what you say.

"Your Happiness is not a result of the events of your life... Your happiness is a result of a comparison between what the event is and what you want the event to be." This insight shifts perspective beautifully, emphasizing the power of our expectations in shaping our happiness. Let's aim to align our reality with our desires without letting the gap dictate our contentment.

    You need to have:
    1. Enough money to pay your bills. You are presumably not living in a field and eating grass.
    2. Your physical and mental health.
    Then the happiness discussion begins.

There is no need to be sad or disappointed in life, and you have more choices about whether you are happy or not.❤❤

I've just listened to this for the first time, and there were SO many things I'd never heard of, SO many things I'd like to enact in my life, I'm overwhelmed.
Each working point could take a week, a month, a year before it's engrained and second nature.
Now to listen again with a notebook until I have a list, then prioritize.
As a high functioning autistic, it slows my brain down to use words. I have a large vocabulary, but the filing system is clunky.
Do you use words in meditation? Is 'guided meditation' having a list of thinking points you want to cover that day? I've tried listening to meditation videos, but if I do begin to go deeper, the narrator pulls me back, I get frustrated and turn it off. How do I guide myself?
