Great conversation - I Think our happyness in life is about the mystery of experience. Experience is no doubt encultured but also at the same time unique and limitless. The key to deep experience is open and yet focused awareness. You must give yourself totally with yourbodyheartmind to be present and become one with the Now - that is a key to experience of boundless effervescence, joy, beauty, aliveness and awe 🌷❤️
This interview is "awesome" I experience a sense of awe when going for walks and taking photos of what I see. But it is true, it is a very rare photo that captures the essence of what I saw. Thank you for this interview.
I grew up in VERY stressful dysfunctional household where happiness was never brought up and when it was brought up it was for other people, not us. I’m 56 now and I’ve finally found a way to seriously love myself and appreciate who I truly am. I know it sounds Corny but when your happy you attract good things in your life. My life has gotten so much better since I’ve realized this.
Thank you. Thank you. This appeared at just the right time for me . Your you tube channel, your books, and your amazing guests fill my life and heart and soul with AWE.
I like the focus on awe - for me its to experience of the basic beauty and awe of Life - the mystery of all Life - each morning to go outdoors, outdoors, if possible out to the sea, and being with the light, the sounds, the smells, and being aware of the wild beauty - the sacredness of all Life and feeling I am part of it and feeling the basic joy of aliveness 🎵💚🎶🍀
I would have to say, that this has been one of my all time favorite podcasts Dr. Rangan Chatterjee. This exchange, and heartfelt conversation with Dacher Keltner, truly has been "awesome" and inspiring. Thank you for sharing this incredible moment. You make a difference, always. xoxo
What you focus on determines how you feel (emotionally). So if you choose to focus on something that makes you happy, you'll be happy. It's that simple. Easier said than done, of course. But with determination, effort and practice, it becomes easier to change your emotional state instantly, simply by changing your focus.
Thank you for sharing about your mother Dr Chatterjee. We all pray for her getting better 🙏 It was a brilliant podcast (as always). I don’t know if you’re doing conferences in the UK (I’m from France) but i will be very happy to attend one ! 😊
Happiness is being contented. A simple life brings the greatest happiness one don't need millions to be happy. As long as your needs are met then one should be happy
Contentment destroys creativity. The contented person stagnates into boredom. They lack motivation to change and grow. They become lazy. Just a different view. I never see contented people doing anything interesting or innovative. They’re not inspired or inspiring. They’re just bland to me.
And I also think that we have internal diapason which make experiences like collective effervescence possible. We have an hidden thermometer inside us and we connect (through love, music, sport, philosophy, care, etc) it directly becomes the same temperature inside for everyone. 🙏
Thank you doctor for showcasing the best professionals through your podcasts. Dr Nacher was so humble and felt so happy as he speaks. Touched by the way he would say thank you many times. God bless
Every moment in our Life is a door into the mystery of experience - into the basic creativity of receiving and giving. Experiencing Life is basically dependent on how you are present. Experience can be a habit, but it is also possible to be present with openness, curiosity and wonder- also in a totally everyday event and it can open into beauty and mystery. In ancient Hellenistic astrology, you study the topic of happiness based solely on the birth chart. In fact the Greek word, eudaimonia (happiness), means, literally, to be blessed by a spirit. In other words, from the astrological, that is cosmological, model, not everyone HAS all of the WORKING PARTS in order TO BE pronounced happy. A careful study of the Lot of Fortune, Spirit, Basis & Exaltation, as well as investigating the Trigon Lords of the Sect Light, is essential. I can virtually guarantee you that this gentleman has not studied this; but if he did, he would be blown away by what it predicts. You like to think you're free, don't you That's cute. By the way, it's only within the last twenty years that we've had access to the original Greek material, which actually dates all the way back to the classical period of Greece -- Plato, Aristotle, Eudoxus. The late Robert Schmidt of Project Hindsight was a world class, and peerless, scholar. May the heavens perpetuate your name.
When people were kinda pissed feeling crunchy When you asked them how they were the Response in a heated sarcastic way was "I'm just Peachy Keen!" I really am beyond peachy keen ! Made me laugh cuz I have been a few years now.. especially the past 2yrs. Wim Hof plus knowing the World is not as officially presented. Moon landing! Lol Spinning Globe? Double LoL
Long life = happiness may not be the case. Those of us with very elderly parents know that extreme old age has many difficulties. Bette Davis’s said “old age ain’t for cissies”.
This was such a moving and thoughtful interview. Even though I don't know you I really identified with what you said about your mother's health, and I really value your ability to bring so much of your own experiences to each interview.

Come on, man. Just so many ads on your videos now. Kinda ironic, or maybe just disheartening, to see such a crass capitalist bent on a video people are viewing to get away from that and find deeper happiness and understanding of our nature. You need to make something on these but with over 600k subs do you really need the ads dialed up so much? Ram Das covered costs with his work and lived a full life. There's perhaps a lesson there. Your audience's time is their most valuable resource. Please consider that when you consider how much of that time we have to trade away to advertisers to benefit from the info you share.
@@Rafas216 Meat does not rot in people's intestines. That is an oft-repeated myth that you should actually try to investigate. By repeating it, you advertise your ignorance. Humans have been eating meat for eons, why would it now be deadly for them?
I just started watching this and that last time found where to leave a comment! Forgive me, there’s not enough oxygen getting to my brain my landlord is actively trying to take me out and it’s not fair to sound psychosis. It’s psychopath behavior towards someone who has never even missed months rent, and besides all that I had to shut you off right at the beginning because I can’t stand another person bragging about their upstanding beautiful Berkeley university experience knowledge. For example, when I really had other duties to do at 16 years old, like be a parent to my mother seven kids, it wasn’t every day in my life. Sometimes they were other people there, but for those seven years it was every fucking day. You can count on it, so it hurts a little bit to hear you to find educated dudes sharing. I think I’ll go take some prednisone and breathe. Have a beautiful day and thank you. I will listen later.

Having anger about unfair past is not, not, not equivalent to being at fault. Like the other commenter so far said, the thing to think about is how do you want your surroundings, relationships to be A f t e r you express your rage? Do you have a safe person, place to Be honest and express your anger? Please 🥺 be careful so you don't hurt any more years. Maybe find others in a similar experience. 🦒🦋🌞 Signed, I went through extreme anger during past 5+ years and it was huge and powerful and i am sending you good wishes 🐝🧘🧚🏽♂️
Woods and forests are wonderful, yet what have you got in your happiness kit to those of us have only have access to asphalt, concrete, and a single half dead tree. Looks to me like you need a toolkit for those in prison, those spending 10 hours a day underground in a mine. Feels to me there is something lacking here.
Please don't take as an ad hominem attack of the guest, but I found his theories unconvincing. Happiness might not be meaningful. Certainly, a definition ( of Awe ) which has "mystery" as one of its characteristics is not really a definition. It may as well say it cannot be understood. Certainly the presumption that we mean the same thing when we use the same word is false. And sometimes people will use ambiguity to deliberately mislead. As for finding meaning in helping others, it begs the question who to help and which cause to support. In a world full of conflict it is not hard to conceive of two people obtaining meaning, purpose and happiness from supporting causes which are in direct opposition. So "meaningfulness" is just begging further questions and at worse recruiting support for irrational and damaging causes. We abandon evidence-based rational thought at our peril! We are better off believing nothing than something for which we have no good evidence for, because it is unlikely to be true.
Could being an "expert" make the list? Trying to be right or at least appear brilliant all the time can be draining - depends on if its a passion or a profession perhaps.
Money mayters to poor people?.. i hope you mean "poor".people. because there are people in all socal classes to whom it matters . There are poor people who are bigger givers and others in middle and upper class
I thought this was about 'happiness' seems to be about 'awe'. Well another 144 minutes I wont be getting back. Gonna look at a tree now and wait for it to shower me with money.

Even though I don't know you I really identified with what you said about your mother's health, and I really value your ability to bring so much of your own experiences to each interview.
... watching "Ramana Maharshi Walking" the first time ...
The word happiness has become useless. It had (deliberately) been conflated with pleasure by marketing/advertising/consumerism
Too bad that as a scientist he doesn't understand that healthy user bias has tainted how we view red meat as unhealthy.
A carne apodrece dentro do intestino das pessoas...quem come pouca ou nenhuma carne vive mais tempo.
@@Rafas216 Meat does not rot in people's intestines. That is an oft-repeated myth that you should actually try to investigate. By repeating it, you advertise your ignorance. Humans have been eating meat for eons, why would it now be deadly for them?
Snoopy is happy, porky pig is happy, bugs bunny is happy. Their happiness spilled over on me, and it stuck. Now I gotta work on Yosemite Sam...
I'm so relived to be an Aspie, it's much easier.
I’m sorry for all my typos. I’m sorry my spellcheck cannot spell. And I guess for fucking second. I’m really pathetic. Forgive me please.🙏♾️❤️♥️💜🦋🧜♀️🪷 1:20
Imagine what you want as end result.

Nothing wrong with eating QUALITY red meat!
para um leão sim... para um primata não. Mas se considera gostoso continue comendo..
❤🙏
Could being an "expert" make the list? Trying to be right or at least appear brilliant all the time can be draining - depends on if its a passion or a profession perhaps.
Poggy
Money mayters to poor people?.. i hope you mean "poor".people. because there are people in all socal classes to whom it matters .
There are poor people who are bigger givers and others in middle and upper class
I thought this was about 'happiness' seems to be about 'awe'. Well another 144 minutes I wont be getting back. Gonna look at a tree now and wait for it to shower me with money.
We are bunch of sheep's watching two rich people talking about is money important? We are fools!
Lost him when he said "Policy of Biden administration led to poor people receiving more money". What world does he live in?
I haven't listened to the video yet, I need to listen to another podcast, but did he mean this in the context of the original Build Back Better Plan. That's a strange assertion for him to make.
Stopped at his “we didn’t know about the climate crisis.” That’s all I need to know. He gets a 👎 for being a sheep.
Biden administration kept trying to give people with small children tax credits. Republicans keep squashing it. Biden administration tried to cap insulin at $35/month for everyone. Republicans keep squashing it. Biden tried to forgive student loans because trump gave tax cuts to billionaires.
Republicans squashed it
He is out of reality on puppet joe Biden.
Such a shame Elite Oligarchs as joe Biden are career politicians living as Elites off the USA taxpayers as their peasants. Harmful to world as well.
As the humans on earth want peace.
Obama 3 with puppet joe are devastation and quite expensive.
So Sad. Not Happiness.
This was sounding interesting until your guest equated eating red meat with smoking and drinking vodka. He should educate himself before making erroneous statements. Perhaps he should refer to Drs Ken Berry, Anthony Chaffee, Robert Cyves, Shawn Baker, to name but a few doctors promoting an optimal human diet based on red meat.
@ranganchaterjee ❤I Love This Awesome 🤩 interview, and I seem Normal after all 😂 because I have felt lost at times in my life and Awe - my being Aware of AWE in any moment of my life has brought such depth to my being, and lifted me enough out of my ‘funk’ to drag myself back into Life and The Joy/Wonder of Life again… Thank You for this Awe 🫢
And I’m going to join a ‘park-run’ out of longest lockdown in the world - Melbourne Australia
When the best shows I've ever heard and it really impacted me a lot period I do have one severe negative speaking of three bad things for your life he said smoking drinking and eating red meat dum dum dum dum eating red meat is not a bad thing eating junk food is so why wouldn't you just make it simple and say smoking drinking and eating crap why would you bring up a political hot potato like red meat I know people who have healed themselves with red meat only even though I personally don't eat red meat
That shot at red meat made me realize that as smart as he is and as wonderful as his teaching is he is able to be taught to speak like a parrot and say what he's been told which he doesn't know anything about red meat has cured many illnesses the problem Americans have is junk food including sugar should be obvious to any enlightened person
