@@DarlingWest that makes tremendous sense. I have a Jaguar, and I put mute foam behind the bridge to cut the overtones since I didn’t enjoy them. I had the idea of installing a fully functioning mute (mine is a 90s Japanese model that didn’t come with one), but haven’t gotten the nerve to drill such a deep hole into my baby and the mute foam does the job. With the Bass VI, I’ve wanted one of these since the late 90s, and plan on getting a Squier one sometime soon. I’ll see if I repeat the mute foam with the Bass. Loved the solo, btw!
I would like to buy a squier vi... anyway i'm a little afraid about the fact that fingerstyle is a little bit hard because the space between strings is not as big as in a normal 4-strings bass.... what do you think about it?
Fingerstyle is definitely hard. I prefer playing with a pick or my thumb on the Bass VI. For fingerstyle I ended up using my index and ring fingers instead of the typical index and middle. Seemed to work better for me, at least. But it's still challenging to pull off the same stuff I can do on a regular bass.
Did he also play the bass notes during the solo, or was that a backing track? Just asking as a bass player who wants to take solos without dropping the harmonic momentum.
Thanks for asking! Yes, I use a McMillen 12 Step connected to a Novation Bass Station II. That way I can play bass with my feet while taking a solo. Takes a little getting used to, but a lot of fun!
To a certain extent, yes. I was experimenting with minimizing magnetic pull from the pickups, and less magnetic pull should give slightly more sustain. But I'm now back to having all three installed.
I use a Descendant Universal Companion Bridge, and don't really have any intonation issues. But I did experience a similar problem due to magnetic pull from the pickups (it sounded wobbly and out of tune, mostly higher up on the low E string). It got better once I raised the string higher up. With the Descendant bridge I can do individual height adjustments (and that way also balance the volume from the different strings), in addition to easy intonation adjustments.

Yes, you're absolutely right! Thanks for noticing! I was experimenting with minimizing magnetic pull from the pickups, as in my experience the low E-string tends too start sounding weird as you go up the neck. Although I felt I got a clearer sound with slightly less wobbliness with only one pickup, I'm now back to having all three installed. But it was a fun little experiment. 😁
@@Snandra66 You're absolutely right. It's a 1962. The body is refinished, so I honestly don't know if that is actually the original body. But everything else is original, except that I put a StayTrem bridge on it.

@@Snandra66 No, not really. I also have a 90's Crafted in Japan reissue. I put Curtis Novak mics in that one, and they're the second generation type. The challenge is the instruments are so different that it's hard to make a qualified comparison of the pickups. The Novak pups were certainly a huge improvement over the stock pups.
