Trailer centering boards for a small sailboat--Catalina 22 --Jim's Little Boat--Updated Information.

Jim modifies the centering boards on the trailer. This updates the first video with new information: The original boards were 2 x 4 lumber. He now suggests using 2 x 6 lumber. Seven months after the release of this video we put the boat back on the trailer and the centering boards worked well. The 2 x 6 lumber was tall enough to capture the keel and center it snugly in the V block.

Retired commercial carpenter here. When trying to make weird compound cuts like this, it is far easier to use a 3.5 or 4 inch angle grinder with 36 grit disks !!
It will turn the waist wood into sawdust in seconds !!!

I agree. In the end that was how I got the final fit.

Re watching your earlier video making these, I feel as thought your 1/4" alloy bracket will be the weak spot. Easy enough to unbolt and take somewhere for a gusset or two to be welded in.

Well as it turned out the aluminum bracket was fine. If it corrodes, I will go to the welding shop and have them make something out of stainless.

Well the first effort kind of worked. Then I went with wider boards during February of 2022. I Launched on April 15. I will pull the boat out about Oct 15. Then we will know if the wider boards worked. I had kind of forgotten about putting up the results. I am reasonably sure that they will work better. I will do a short recap then.
