How to fix a noisy, vibrating Samsung dryer in 30 minutes for $25 or less

  • This video shows a Samsung dryer that is vibrating like crazy and making a lot of noise. Service tech replaced idler pulley (a common problem) but that did not help. The actual problem was the blower wheel. Replacement part is readily available at low cost. The repair requires on a few common tools and -- if it's just clumped lint then there is no cost to the repair (other than time).

    Prior to watching this video I was I the dog house . Our 1 year old Samsung was shaking and it is next to my wife’s office disrupting her calls. I followed your steps and took it apart to find a bunch of lint on the wheel to one side. Tooth brushed it out then vacuumed put it back together as quiet as new. I’m hero at home right now - won’t last but enjoying the moment.

    Thanks for your video. In my case, a mouse got into my dryer and decided to make lunch out of the blower wheel. This put the wheel WAY out of balance causing a VERY noticeable vibration. Thanks for pointing out that mounting nut is LEFT hand thread. Thanks again.

      Glad it worked! And yes, I get concerned about pests entering the vent from the outside too. So tempting to remove the screen but it serves a purpose.

    I suspect the heat of the lint and air as it passes this wheel -- because of the cheapness of the plastic -- warps over time and becomes imbalanced which caused the vibration. A metal wheel would be much more effective, but the way this wheel is designed it guarantees a service call and added revenue to Samsung. Hopefully this video, which is EXCELLENT, will put the power to resolve back in the hands of the consumer.

    I know this video is 5 years old, but I started by taking the back off the unit, then youtubed the issue. Your video came up and is literally the exact issue we had. My daughter had a ring that made it into the blower wheel which had caused the wheel to come off balance. It also needed cleaning and is now working as new! Thanks for posting this.

    This was the exact problem with my 2020 Samsung- i needed to use a bolt-type wheel puller, threaded into the two holes on either side. (Harbor Freight item 62620, $16.99). I was surprised to see how much lint passed the trap and settled onto the fan wheel. Thank you for the excellent video!

    Just wanted to say thank you for this video, I’ve had AHS to my house several times last year and worthless tech left my machine running like this without ever really taking it apart like you had the last time he left he said it’s fine you can keep using it like this the noise doesn’t matter. My vibration was so loud even with the door closed you can hear it throughout the house. They never call to reschedule and left me hanging and last week I got fed up and found your video. Took my dv56h9000gp/a2 dryer apart similarly and found me wheel gunked up with thick lint all on one side, I peeled it out and cleaned up my fins and vacuumed everything down there from years of never opening the unit in a household of 8. Spun my drum and the wheel was luckily spinning well balanced, added a few strips of butyl rubber sound deadener strips where some metal on metal would contact and make noise, put it all back together and it’s almost like new. Almost whisper quiet. Such a relief!! Thank you so much for showing me the insides of a Samsung dryer, I wish I would have known this sooner

    Your video made me the hero in my home. Our Samsung Dryer was loudly vibrating and something was rubbing inside. When I took off the fan-wheel cover, every blade on 1/2 the wheel was loaded with lint. I even think the Bounce Dryer a sheets made the lint and the plastic fan material sticky, be vise I couldn’t just vacuum it out. I had to use a toothbrush to free it and remove a residue on the plastic. Once reassembled, quiet as new! Thanks so much!

    Thanks for this video. We searched high and low for information regarding opening up the front of our Samsung dryer model No. DV50F9A7GVW/A2 The one on this video is exactly the same as ours. Our problem was a noisy, vibrating operation. Being confident it was excess lint build up in the wheel, we wanted to fix it ourselves. We are a 75 year old husband and wife. With your guidance we were able to open the front, remove the blower cover plate and clean out the wheel. Problem solved! Great video!

    Thank you so much for the video! I have an all electronic version of the dryer (Samsung model DV50K8600GV/A3, manufactured April 2016) and it disassembled exactly the same way you showed it in your video. The only thing I did differently was to disconnect the quick connect plug on the front door assembly so I could get it out of our laundry room and out of my way. I was luckier than you were though, as my issue was caused by a huge build up of lint on the blower fan blades, creating an imbalance. Once I cleaned it all out, it worked perfectly. There was no more vibration. Again, I can't thank you enough for taking the time to make this video!! I truly appreciate it!!

Followed your instructions and BAM! quiet dryer. I couldn't get lid to open with banging on it, so used a sturdy butter knife right about where the latches were and it popped right open. Brilliant video. One of the best “how to” video I have seen. Had a similar vibration on my Samsung dryer although it is a different model than in the video. After looking at the video, I decided to check the blower to see if it that was the problem. Took a bit to figuring out how to get to the blower since mine is a different model, but eventually got to it. The blower wheel and duct leading to it, was completely clogged up with lint, tissue, and dryer sheets. Cleaned everything out and reassembled all the parts. The dryer is now working like new. Thanks for saving me the cost of a service call, and perhaps buying a new dryer as, like you noted, the technician might have changed everything else in the dryer and not resolve the problem.

    Great video, thank you for taking the time to make and upload it, just solved our vibration problem. Ours was due to softener sheets and lint stuck in the duct and fan thanks to guests who broke our lint trap.
    Just a thought, but I'd bet your fan deformed when it was overheated by using a crappy low cost dryer duct, that jenky collapsible type that coils back and forth behind the dryer for 700 miles before exiting the house. I used a semi-ridged duct when I bought this set and it flows so much more volume of air without much if any resistance. My $.02 YRMV.

    • @WilliamBennerJr
      @WilliamBennerJr  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks for the note. I think what caused my blower wheel to become deformed was a duct that was clogged with lint. On that house, the duct vented to the roof instead of the side of the house. The roof vent had a mesh which was easily clogged with lint. After this repair, I had a company come every so often and clean the vent.

      Oh, gotcha! Yeah, I rented a townhouse with an insanely long dryer duct that literally went into the concrete foundation, made a 90° bend and came out the front in the flower bed. Kid you not it was probably 50ft total length. When we moved in I bought a brand new W/D set and the dryer failed to dry my clothes after running a full cycle 3x. Turned out in the week we didn't have a dryer, my kids shoved plastic balls from their ball pit into the vent and they were out front stuck behind the little grate like lottery balls, lol!

    Thank you for the great video. You are a natural teacher - your voice is clear, the presentation is well organized, and your cadence is perfect. Thank you also for calling out the supplier because many of us rarely purchase appliance parts and knowing who a good supplier is helps a lot. Two of the rollers on my 4-year-old Samsung dryer failed causing a clunking sound. The rollers on my machine are plastic wheels with metal self-lubricating bushings which rotate on iron axles. The lint soaked up the lubricant and eventually, the bushings and axles were destroyed. Hopefully, the rollers on your more deluxe machine have sealed bearings that will last much longer.

    Thank you so much for posting this video. My dryer started making that horrible noise (mine seemed even louder) along with the vibration this morning. I will be ordering the part and hopefully my son and I can get it done. 🙂
    Update: It turned out I did not need the part (yay). I texted this link to my son. He watched it and followed your directions and was able to fix the dryer. Once he unclogged it, removing all the lint, a pencil, 17 cent, a plastic token and a few other things, it was good as new. Thank you!

    Thank you sir! Mine was packed with lint, removed it all and running smooth as silk now. You’re the man.

    Thanks for taking the time and energy to graciously make this video to help out the rest of us. Very clear and calm directions made disassembly and reassembly a breeze. My challenge appears to have just be uneven lint build up on the blower wheel (as you suggested as the first check). Much appreciated!

    Same Samsung, same issue. Decided to open her up and didn’t know what was what. You saved the day and now the whole internet knows! Well done and precise instructions! I couldn’t help but notice all those bottles on the counter in the other room 😊 cheers to you!

    Thank you very much for this video! My Samsung dryer is making such a loud vibration from exactly that area. I’m going to check out these parts and see if I can fix our dryer too.

    Great video! I had the same issue with my dryer vibrating excessively for months. I followed the steps to remove the front, cleaned out a *very* dirty blower wheel, and 20 minutes later, I can finally dry my clothes again without shaking the whole house. Thank you so much!

      Glad it helped Stephani! Yes, in most cases it's just a clogged wheel. I was a bit surprised it wasn't the case for mine, but actually if mine was so simple, I probably wouldn't have made this video.

    Helpful video. In my case, the blower wheel was so caked with lint, it threw the wheel off balance. No need to remove it. Just clean and vacuum it out and noise gone.

    William, thank you for a great informative video. It helped me to fix a very noisy dryer that i didn't want to use into a very quiet machine! I did not have to replace anything, just clean out the fan of lint caught by a dryer cloth. Just this simple fix and now good as new. Best repair video ever. Thanks a ton.

    Turns out we had a ton of lint piling up, thus yielding the loud noise. We fixed it in 20 minutes :)

    • @WilliamBennerJr
      @WilliamBennerJr  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hehe, well I hope it didn't come across as bashing technicians! The previous tech mis-diagnosed this particular problem, but replaced a part that indeed was a common-fail part, and one that other viewers to this video also had to replace. And I certainly hope I don't know it all otherwise life would be pretty unexciting ;-)

    After watching several other "fix-it" videos on here (and disassembling and reassembling several times), yours was the one that did the trick. The key "aha moment" for me was when you spun your squirrel cage. That was the same problem I had.
    All fixed now, thanks to your excellent video and clear insight.

    I cannot thank you enough for this video! Lucky for me it was just a giant wad of lint and some wayward dryer sheets that were clogging the wheel. It took me longer to clean out the lint and dryer sheet wad than it did to disassemble and reassemble the dryer. Again, thank you for taking the time to thoroughly explain each step in such an easy to follow format.

    You, sir, are a hero. We had a really bad blizzard and apparently it was enough to blow in snow which turned into linty ice and opening things up per your example was enough to melt things and I cleared it out and now it's running great. Thank you very much!
