Bill, Your video and description and how you went about the work of fixing a Samsung dryer saved the day. I was able to follow your lead to change the rollers, idler pulley, and belt (and clean out the blower which, after 14 years had accumulated heavy lint between each vane - really there must have been a quart!). She went from squeaking and squealing to quiet, smooth, AND much more efficient! Thank you so much for your teaching and just perfect presentation!

Hey Bill Newberry. I just want to say thank you for taking the time to post a video on repairing a Samsung dryer. Thanks to you I spent 45$ and roughly 1.5hrs of my time repairing my dryer! I priced around for repair services and it just was not economical. Thanks again! I am most appreciative for having come across your video! Very simple to understand and perform as suggested!

This video helped me replace my dryer parts with no issues or stress. Following along with this video was so simple and I only had some minor differences in my model. It took me 3 hours to do this which included vacuuming as I progressed and I'm sure you could do it faster if you wanted. This is an easy job if you are handy with basic tools. I replaced the rollers, belt, and tension pulley. 6 years after this was posted and working on a newer model, this video is still helpful, thanks for posting this video! It is one of the best videos I found for this repair!

Bill, your video likely reclaimed half a day of messing around at a time when I can afford these precious moments nor the money for a repair guy to take care of the problem. Thank you for posting this. It was almost exactly the same as my DV42H5600EP dryer.
Note to file: don't forget to re-plug in the door open/closed sensor (a 3-prong connector with 2 wires - yellow and white).
    Thanks!!

Thanks for the video! What I thought might be bad drum rollers, turned out to be a huge amount of lint stuck in the dryer blower wheel. Talk about cause and effect, my wife told me two days ago she saw a lot of lint below the lint trap and she cleaned it out. Thought hit me, "Where did the lint disappear?" The lint was pushed down into the dryer blower wheel making it unbalanced. After viewing this video, I disassembled the unit to the point where the wheel could be accessed. Yes, a HUGE amount of lint was jammed in the spokes. After cleaning the mess out, cleaning the entire area and reassembly, the dryer works great! No more noise. Thank you for the help and saving me hundreds of dollars by not paying for a service call.

I had a whole sock somehow get jammed into mine. It made such hellacious noise I thought the dryer was toast, but I saw this video and realized how easy it was to disassemble (didn't realize the sock was there until I saw that the rollers were fine and started investigating).

    Step 1: Disassemble dryer
    Step 2: Replace rollers
Step 3: Question why you thought you could do this after watching a TH-cam "how to" video
Step 4: Yell at the dryer for mocking you
Step 5: Call your ex-Father-in-law to see if he still likes you enough to come help you

Thanks so much. I followed your instructions step by step and solved my Samsung Dryer problem (loud clattering noise). I pulled each section apart and when I got down to the blower I found a hotel credit card like plastic key that had fallen out of my sons pocket and somehow made it down into into the lint trap and finally into the blower. What a noise that made. Cleaned up and remove the plastic key culprit and back running smooth as silk. Mama is now happy! And I saved a small fortune in repair cost.

Word of advice: If the dryer is less than 3-4 years old and it's making squeaky noises, the first thing to check is the idler pulley. You don't need to take the whole dryer apart to do so, simply remove the plate around the dryer vent tube (3 screws) and the vent tube itself (simply pulls off once the plate is off) from the back of the unit (you can see this step starting @ 4:58 in this video). From this hole you have enough space to see if the pulley is at fault. Unhook the belt from the pulley and turn the pulley by hand (see this step @ 5:23), if it doesn't spin really easily or if it's making the squeaky noise as you turn it, it's shot and needs to be changed. The wheel typically sits on a metal-on-metal bushing with a bit of grease, so it goes bad fairly quickly with the heat generated by the dryer...

    • @garymacdougall6775
      @garymacdougall6775 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Benoit, thankyou so much for your comment. It was my idler pulley that was squeaking. And it was so easy to locate and replace with your instructions. I want to add I also saved over $50 by ordering the pulley and arm off Amazon. I made the mistake of ordering just the pulley the first time and it didn't fit the arm that was on there.

thanks you! i just did it for my DV45H7200EW, just remove the the vent pipe from the back, leave your cellphone inside for lighting, you can then do it with one hand easily, other models i've seen has even larger back panel can be removed so more room to work, but even this one is not hard.
btw, i added a bit of lubricant on the new pulley shaft so it might help it last longer.

Michael Yang I noticed there is an aftermarket idler assembly available with bearings instead of a bushing. I’m going to try that and see if it lasts longer than the original part, (which wasn’t very long at all).

Not necessarily true, depends on your dryer model. My idler pulley is behind 2 screws and you must remove the vent pipe then and sits a good 18 inches inside the dryer so simply changing out the idler pulley is not simple. It’s hard as crap to reach in there with no leverage and try to apply enough pressure to even loosen the screw. Clearly I have the Samsung model that’s a pain in the ass

We bought Samsung brand tensioner, belt and 4 rollers for $80 total, cleaned out 14 years of lint from the blower wheel. Disassembly was actually really easy, step by step just how Bill presents. Reassembly was great as well. I think we saved about $300 by doing it ourself (repair person charges $165 to show up and do 1/2 hour, then my $80 parts would have been another $160!).

Called the local parts distributor in Ottawa and got the following pricing. Rollers, $38.43 each. Belt $71.78. Idler assembly $100.16. All with 4 to 6 weeks delivery. The nice young lady gave me the part numbers and two clicks on Amazon got me all the parts as a kit for $63.79. Saved $261.87. No wonder the local retailers are complaining about the lack of business.

From now on if i ever have any more appliance issues, ill be fixing it myself instead of buying new. This was very easy. Let me add the replacement wheels in the kit had been improved with lock nuts but were a 14mm instead of the 17mm on originals. The idler was in the kit and included a new belt tension spring . The old one probably would have been fine but i changed it anyway. Plus i saved the old parts that are still functional. Never know when i might find a machine like mine out for trash pickup and it needs a few parts.... voila , free spare dryer!!

Video was super helpful and awesome! My dryer blower motor was not seated correctly in the cradle and the rubber ring was protruding through the metal clamp causing the belt to shift towards the belt nut 1/16 inch. Just enough to cause the belt to hit the nut every time the drum spun making a grinding sound. Re-seated the blower motor to align correctly in the cradle resolved my issue. All the wheels were in great condition. Not sure how the motor got shifted out of the cradle but glad to get it working. Only took an hour and I am not a mechanic!

Great video. Looked simple, step by step instructions, seamed easy enough for me to follow, I figured I give it a shot! Everything was going relatively smooth. It took about 2 hours to disassemble considering my model was a little different, but I finally got it apart. Unfortunately I found out that my Samsung microwave didn't even have a belt tensioner pulley arm! I feel like that should have been in the beginning of the video. Also, he doesn't show you how to put it back together if you have to cut stuff to get it apart. I was half way through reassembly when I ran out of glue and tape so I just quit! I was so frustrated and disappointed that I just wasted 6 hours of my day and I had no way to cook my dinner! Eventually, I ended up just tossing 4 hotdogs in the dryer machine and set it on high! It took another 2 hours but I finally got to eat my supper! They tasted pretty good but I need to look at my dryer next cause it was wicked noisy the whole time!

Awesome video. My Samsung dryer had a bracket behind the right rear wheel and fell out when I removed the bolt. It caught me off guard and didn't know how it was connected but luckily I found a video that showed how the bracket was connected. Just something to be aware of. My model # was DV431agp

Thank you so much for this great video. Without this Video I won’t able to fixed my dryer I was hesitant at first but since my dryer out of warranty and will cost me more to call for Service I decided to give this a shot since I have nothing to lose. Getting Service will cost me $70 for site visit and $40 per hr for labour plus parts. I'm not electrician or nor experience it is my first time removing a washer dryer. I just don't want to throw it out without giving it a try. I was able to fix my Samsung Dryer Model: DV48J7770EW. For me just need to put some SILICONE SPRAY on Dryer Idler Pulley and no more squeaking sound it remove the rust of the pulley. Both of the Belt and roller are still great condition.

thanks for making this video. i just took my dryer apart . one of the rear drum support wheels apparently had locked up a bearing, and fallen right off . must have spun itself off after the bearing seized. further inspection, the idler roller has also seized and the belt wore through most of it . the drum had sunk after the wheel failure/loss and the back plate has a good sized wear pattern through the sheetmetal where the drum had ridden on it so long. im going to see what these parts are going to run me and put it back together. even if it last another 6 months thats still cheaper than a new machine. might even start looking for machines in the trash to salvage parts or pick up and fix. Edited- parts i need come in a kit (check your model numbers carefully before hitting "buy now" many kits look similar, fit different models) on amazon for $29.99 , plus tax, free amazon prime shipping. i'll have them by friday.

Thanks, Bill. Your videos helped me diagnose and repair my Samsung dryer. In my case, the idler pulley gave up the ghost, but I was prepared to replace the drum rollers if need be. I did a total clean out of stray lint and replaced the belt while I was there. Thanks for your help.

Followed the instructions, took it apart, cleaned out the dust and lint, ensured all rollers and the idler pulley was working. Put everything back together... and now I'm getting the de code. I made sure that all the wiring harnesses were plugged back in, to include the door sensor. Thoughts or recommendations?

Excellent video! I can't begin to thank you enough! My Samsung just started squeaking and it's only two years old. Calling a service tech would cost about half the cost of a new one, so I'd rather repair it myself. Now I just need to find the parts!
One question though, one of my back rollers is squeaking, would you recommend that I replace both of the rear rollers at the same time since I will have it open anyway?

Yes Newberry’s video you’ll is helpful and useful - but I was expecting to hear the noise Gram’s Samsung dryer was making before he repaired it, to see how it compares to the burning-animal-squealing-in-agony of my dryer.
(No there’s not a burning animal. What a relief!)

Don't replace rollers if the dryer is squealing. Get bearing grease from the local auto parts store and grease the shaft that the idler tensioner roller is on. There are no bearings in the idler roller and, thanks to this video, I was able to take my dryer apart and fixed the squealing that was caused by a dry roller turning on a dry shaft.

    • @rathdean
      @rathdean 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Actually, no, grease will cause additional problem as the lint gets mixed in with it. The part no. has changed to dc93-00634a. Very little grease is advised on the idler.

OK, let me start with this my 1st attempt at disassembling a dryer. I realize I need to replace the back drum roller. So far, I've disassembled & removed the front door, removed the drum. But 2 things, while I've unscrewed the top, I'm unable to figure out how to unplug the wiring going into the dashboard, (you made it look so easy). And 2: do I need to remove the entire back panel to access the back drum roller. Urgently seeking your advice. TIA

I cant believe that Samsung uses a bushing rather then a bearing. Mine is 2 years old and the idler pulley completely melted due to the friction on this bushing. Appliances are completely garbage these days. I replaced mine with a real idler pulley from an automotive store. It was a fraction of the price and works like a dream. No squeaks and less stress on the motor.
