    John I have been remiss in responding to your videos so I apologize. Thank you for the reminder that monochromatic clothing is a quick, easy way to look stylish and let me tell you. • @Topknot60
      @Topknot60 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The other day got my first wrinkle free shirts in about 20 years. The improvement is phenomenal. 100% cotton but don't need ironing (so far anyway!) and good in the hot weather (don't believe the claims about new generation polyester, "wicking" technology, blah, blah, blah. If you are a hot-bodied type, you'll feel hot. Natural fibres have it all over synthetics. Just pay attention to the weave and weight). Unbelievable!

    John, another good vid. My dilemma this morning is what shoes to wear with shorts for dressy casual, instead of my normal rainbow sandals. I have nice casual shoes, but they aren't really a fit for shorts w/o socks. Guess it's time for a new pair of casual shoes. Might be worth covering since it summer and hot everywhere in the West right now :) Keep up the good!

    On your topic of correct fitting clothes, what if you’re not a correct fitting build ? I’m sure I’m not the first person to ask this. I’m a rather unique shape , as in I’ve been a power lifter for many years , and as such my waist to leg ratio is off, as is my chest to waist ratio . So to get trousers to go over my legs means the waist is two sizes to big , as with shirts , if I get them to fit my upper body , the bottom of the shirt looks like it could hold a family of 5 . What’s you suggestion for such ? Came across your channel and subscribed straight away .

    What I do for colors which can absolutely never be wrong is look at nature pictures and just pick two or three colors from there.
    Look at a picture of a landscape, a field with flowers, a garden, etc. You will never find a bad taste or tacky landscape or image of nature.
    Seasonal? Just look at a photo for that season, for example, not sure what colors to use in the fall, just search for Michigan fall colors and there you go, just use any colors you see in those images in any combination and you'll never go wrong.

    It’s insane. I was always referring to a color wheel when picking out outfits in the past. I thought I was crazy and a little gay for doing that. So when I just watched this video and he referred to the canva color wheel, I knew I was doing something right! Thank you for that link. My fits about to level up! Best video this guy has put out for me! Sneaker taste is still cringy tho. 🤷🏽‍♂️

      Lol, you said a "little gay!"
      But I knew exactly what you meant when you said that! 😂
      Yo I don't think to this day that I have ever come across a gay dude that was not dressed to a T, all the time!
      Those dudes ALWAYS had mad style and could pull off everything!
      All the trends, and even all the colors!
      Yeah I'm trying to pull together some style now at 42, but they were walking around like fashion models even back when I was the college jock with my team's gear on walking around with slides and long socks pulled up! 😂

    • @karlr750
      @karlr750 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't speak for John, but I always think about what I have at home. My most recent shirt purchase (a blue-gray micropattern) works with every pair of slacks that I own. Similarly, my most recent slacks purchase (light gray tech pants) works with every button-down shirt, every nice T-shirt, and every sweater that I own.
      By shopping in that way, I gain a lot more versatility than if I bought shirts and slacks in matching pairs.

    Here’s something else ALL men should think about …. getting a bimonthly MANICURE! Think about it … we use our hands to greet others (a wave or personal handshake) and we use them to jot down notes in a meeting. Nothing worse than ratty ass chewed up nails and tearing cuticles! Also on the subject of shoes … if they’re able to be polished, LEEP THEM POLISHED and don’t forget to check the heels. Replace them as soon as they start to wear down. You can be dressed from hair down but if shoes aren’t given attention, they can negate any hard work into looking stylish. If you’re wearing sandals/flip flops and your heals have built up callouses and your nails are ratty … yup … it’s pedicure time!

    What do you think about GQ telling men to start wearing roomier clothes because "the 90s are in again"? For a while, they've been saying that wearing well-fitting clothes is basically uncool now. GQ even likes roomier, looser suits now too.

      I say stick with the classics, especially in our age group. I’m OK with feeling things out and incorporating some trends, but just be careful with going all out.

      @@40OverFashion Agree with this. I guess a better question is why anyone over 40 would still be reading GQ...I think I've been in denial for a bit that GQ is mainly aimed at people in their 20s and 30s. Not 100% but mostly.

    Hiya from England
    From a women's perspective its all about 'standing out in a crowd' How would this be achieved in my own opinion and these are not in any particular order
    1st - To be able to invest in well made bespoke shirts like Turnball and Asser
    2nd - To be able to invest in well made bespoke suites - savile row designers i love prince of wales check
    3rd - to be able to invest in well made bespoke shoes. I always look at a man and see the shoes he wears - i think they 'top off any outfit'
    4th - have the right casual jacket to connect with your shirt and trousers BUT NO JEANS
    5th - make sure your general appearance is good. -hair cut and beard is in order
    Trainers or sneakers are in my book a DEFINITE NO NO.
