My coworker and I have been thinking about how to build a portal gun for my Chell cosplay for about 2 weeks now, and after seeing your tutorial, we finally have a FULL list of materials and an AMAZING guideline as to how to make it as light and as cheap as possible!! On top of that note, we FINALLY know what to make the prongs out of and that’s been stumping us the MOST! I didn’t know it would be this simple!!! Amazing tutorial and it still holds up 6 years from when you made it!! I’ll be sure to update when we finally get around to building it! Thanks a TON, Odin!!

Try $200 and it has articulated "claw" arms, lights up with BOTH colors, and makes sounds.
Making it change colors wouldn't be all that hard, you would just need two triggers and two sets of LEDs with different colored gels.

I'm guessing he was feeling lazy on this project. He even lifted the measurements and patterns off a toy replica instead of doing hours of research looking at pictures and 3D models of the thing. What is this world coming to when even Odin gets lazy?

A friend of mine and I decided to make a portal gun from scratch last year... as our first ever large-ish cosplay prop project. We decided to use this video as a template of sorts and while we did end up winging it for the most part and improvising on the lighting, it still turned out great! Although toting it around the GamesCom was a bit of a pain, it was still totally worth it. So thank you for the video, it was a great help and inspiration!
And to anyone thinking that it's too hard of a project for you to do: Just give it a try! Making it is half the fun after all.

you maybe only bought the water bottle but it took me over £100 to make the rick and morty portal gun and with simpler wiring, but i do must admit that i have practically finished it but its taking lots of time to make but its still worth it in my opinion.

Dude, your skill makes everything look easy. You make this seem like “I just had to get the dimensions right, source and use the appropriate materials and assemble them with care, paint and add finishing touches!” But bro you have to spend 15 years working in a craft studio to even get close to this level of skill.
This would be a much bigger prop than usual. But if you're up for the challenge the ENGINEER'S TURRET from TF2 would be awesome to see! Even if it were just the first smaller unupgraded model.

I made this, it was my first prop. It isn't perfect and substituted the claws for indy moguls variants. Your templates were really easy to understand! On the shells you can see some seams but it still looks cool! Thx!!
