yes the exposed casings would be very bad, the casings are for holding the powder charge, but without the cylinder to reinforce the casing you would get a rather spectacular metal failure, brass is very soft, when the charge is ignited it expands the brass to seal the end of the chamber, which is why you have to resize it when reloading

As big as the gun is custom made for Hellboy, so it would make sense that a normal person couldn’t use it without breaking their arm, since Hellboy is much stronger than a normal human. Plus, it was designed so that he could use it with his right hand if needed.

This is absolutely brilliant. Stumbled upon it after seeing you make Hellboy's Hand of Doom. Truly wonderful work! Even after seeing the construction, it straight-up looks like metal and aged/worn wood. Thanks for blowing my mind, good sir.
I am using Weldwood Contact Cement, made by DAP, and it's the red labeled product. I have tried the green label (water based, low VOC) but it didn't work as well for me, particularly with the open cell polyfoams. Also, Barge All Purpose Cement is flippin' awesome, but has a higher cost - a quart of barge costs about as much as a gallon of DAP. One thing I know Barge is used for is glueing new soles onto shoes! So it is designed for heavy use. DAP is construction grade, I have used it for years without complaint. The glue pot I am using is an ATCO Cast Zinc Teflon Cement Keeper I purchased from Amazon. It's pricey, at $45! but worth it. It cuts down nearly all the fumes from contact cements. And you can just leave the glue in it. No need to refill it each day, just top it off when you need it. Soooo much better than just having an open can of contact cement.
Also, I am in California, so legislation here makes finding Barge on a retail shelf difficult, and DAP is only available in little glass jars at Home Depot. Walmart has DAP in a pint can for the same price as Depot jar, but ACE Hardware carries the gallon cans for $35 near me. "How much do you need?" The jar is a fine amount for most single projects, but I would just get the can from Walmart for $6. Close the can tightly when you are not using it and it will last a long time.

Since you asked.....No there is no historical evidence that any firearm was made with an open chamber like that. You are correct that would be a very bad idea that would cause the casing of the round to rupture and blow outward. This would produce an extreme example of case rupture as casings usually split down the side if there is excessive clearance in the chamber. The essential design of any firearm is to have the chamber hold pressure from the small explosion until the bullet leaves the barrel and the brass casing temp drops allowing for it to be extracted which is why if a barrel and chamber gets too hot on a firearm it can cause the extractor to slip off the rim of the casing or rip the back off the casing due to the casing still being expanded when it tries to do it. It does look pretty cool but unfortunately it cannot function without extreme damage to the shooter, gun and anyone around when it is set off. So to make an actual functioning gun like that the closest someone can come is to have each portion of the cylinder be engraved with a bullet and color filled so it looks like an exposed chamber. think of it more like if an explosion happens then like electricity it takes the path of least resistance. The exposed chamber would most certainly be the path of least resistance.

Granted Hellboy ain't no slouch, but this is engineered to create so much unnecessary torque on the wrist, making the accuracy of repeated shots much more difficult than it has to be. They could just rotate the handle backwards a bit and I could believe it a bit more, especially when one considers how much resources they have at their disposal. Honestly it looks like a prototype to me, not like the finished product, a gun that makes the big guy's job as easy as can be.
Very impressive on a technical level, but if I had to critique, air brush with dry brush weathering would look better and would make the finished product look complete

The Hammershot is closer than the maverick however the front loading is a bit inaccurate.
