I've been working on this project since yesterday. I found the exact same clear tube and plunger that Zack used at Lowe's. I think he made a mistake when he said 3" and 4" ABS tube. I think it has to be 2" and 3" based on the C shaped rings he made at 4:13. If it was really a 3" tube the rings would have to be a lot bigger.
If you are building this in 2016 save some cash and knock about $12 off the build by going to a store like $5 and below to get the foam mats you only really need two of them and they are like $3 a piece there.

I remember watching this video a million times when I was a kid. Back in the day I couldn’t even understand a single word of english but it was still very entertaining. Somehow I managed to adopt some of these techniques to make my own version of the Portal Gun out of a couple of Pringle’s tubes. Good times, thank you.
hey I just want to say I built the portal gun with my mom and used this as my main video to look at. lets just say I was a pretty awesome chell for Christmas. I even had a companion cube and everything

Im doing it too, except all but the curved shells are 3d printed. Reduces need to use electrical tools, which make a mess.

Hey, I was wondering how does a 4-in abs pipe fit inside a 4-in pvc pipe..? Is there some sort of size difference even though they are both 4-inches? I am so confused..

AJ DeAugustine I think since he just put a light in the plunger, you might be able to find a light online that changes from orange to blue, if that was helpful at all :)

I just realised I could save a bunch of cash by replacing the PVC in this video with more foam. I'm pretty sure I have plenty of foam mats in my garage. Then I would only need to buy the white spray paint, the screws (although I may have something similar around the house I could use), and maybe the clear plastic tubes for the middle.

A LOT of stuff was way off. The ABS pipes really weren't ABS. And you never show what you attach your cables to. You also never showed how you made the bottom shell, and the template link just brought everyone to your TH-cam channel. But, after 3 days of struggle and LOTS of improvise, I made a pretty good looking portal gun. So, after all, I guess there some things you could've done better, but it was an okay project.

how about some paintballs? they can make blue/orange stains on the wall, but I have no idea how to make the oval shape. Perhaps rigging the wall?

Good luck catching black holes for your portal gun :)
That part you would have to do with visual effects. Use after effects and you'd want to take a video of where you want the portal destination then mask an oval shape and add the blue or orange glow to the outside of that mask. :)

These portal guns have every color light used in Portal 2.
They have lights and sounds from the game.

yes, and I'm sure you could find two of those voice recorders or something similar and record the sound of the blue and orange portal shots and wire those to a trigger. It'd be time consuming, but I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard

An extra step for fun:
Take a 3'' tube ends for holding a roll of plastic wrap on a bar, and put it in the end of the barrel. I'm not sure where you can find these, I found some at a body shop and they fit perfectly and stayed by itself. This also gives the end the effect of Harrison Krix's model as seen at 2:13.
Sometimes it is fun to get one in the mail like it was Christmas!!!
I am building the Atlas robot from the Portal 2.
I am sure they wont be selling him full scale.
I am also building a small animated GLaDOS robot, she will be computerized.

The couplings are made to fit with the corresponding ABS tube of the same inch thing.

@RIBZComrade pvc couplers are usually larger than abs couplers, go to a plumbing supply store to get 100% abs and the portal gun will be the right size

Use two flashlights one blue one orange rigged to the trigger and add a cap onto each lens to make it oval and whenever you use it stand a certain distance away

I made one using this tutorial and another it is awesome finished on oct 30 at 11:00pm
I got two flash lights and put an oranfr gel on one and used foam to be able to spin and i spin the foam to change from orangr to blue also i added a tiny piece of thin plastic thst clicks so i know when to dtop spinning :) just a tip i found easyer than switching the light and stuff

i would have used an led flashlight that can change colors and used blue/orange bulbs in it. then wired up the switch to where the "handle" of the gun would be so you could flip the switch to change what color portal you want to shoot.

@RIBZComrade I think you forgot about the foam, you can just make the rings as big as you need them to fit everything together.
