GM TH350 Shift Selector Shaft Seal Replacement

  • This video demonstrates the procedure to remove and install a new seal in a TH-350 transmission. The same exact procedure also applies to the TH-400, 700R4 and 4L60 transmission. The Evercraft 7769250 tool was purchased from NAPA (link below). On this particular 1973 Monte Carlo transmission flied was dripping from the shift linkage. If you think your transmission pan seal is leaking, you might want to check your shift linkage seal first, or if you are changing you transmission fluid and filter you may want to spend the extra couple of dollars and do the shifter seal as well.

    Perfectly explained video. All this time I thought it was my transmission pan leaking I dropped it 3 times.

    Best video I've seen on this process. You explained everything unlike on other videos. I think the tool doesn't work for some people because they're afraid to whack it in far enough to bite the interior of the seal.

    Bought the tool on Amazon and it actually came with a new seal. Great instructional video. Looks like an easy job.

      @@ShinyFastLoud yeah, hard a napa PN 4707... a rubber seal. didn't work in my favor. 1-3887 (4912 reference code on website) was the metal housing seal i wanted. and it worked out just fine. now i wait to see if the pan is leaking. procrastination is not the best friend we all hoped for.

    Was the transmission dry when you did this? I didn't see any fluid come out. Mine appears to be leaking fluid but may only be when it's up to operating temperature. I redid the pan seal and still getting fluid on the pan seam but only below this.

      I believe when I did it I had already drained the pan since I was replacing the filter and gasket as well.

    Mine still leaked. lol, I dont have much room to hit it in. Wonder if I hit too hard to not enough.

    Do i need to drain the transmission before replacing the shift shaft seal? I just replaced the gasket and realized I have a small leak from my shift shaft.

      you wouldn't need to drain it all to change the seal but I think there is a pretty good chance that the fluid level of the full transmission might be above the seal....which is why it leaks. I'm thinking worse case you will lose some fluid when you pull the old seal, but then you can replace the seal and then refill the trans using the dipstick to determine when it is full again.

    Can you use this on an aod tranny? Wouldn't you be shoving the throttle valve shaft in?

    Replaced it once, rubber tore still leaked. Second time nothing went wrong slowly leaking, any ideas?

      Possibly the selector shaft is marred or pitted causing the slow leak. A new one with a seal is $35. It involves dropping the pan, but it’s probably a 1 hour job start to finish

    I thought u had to hammer the tool into the seal to make it grab? Obviously u dont but there is other videos of people hammering the removal tool into the old seal

    • @7beast298
      @7beast298 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So it does not have to be hammered in?
