  • I go over the materials, measurements and process of building a trebuchet out of PVC. This trebuchet can launch golf balls 75 feet!
I also explain the physics behind this medieval machine of war.
If you're looking for a fun activity, or the means to construct an efficient trebuchet, this is a great tutorial.

This is great! I was thinking about some kind of trebuchet design to launch tennis balls for my dog, and this is such an easy design to build. I've actually already got most of the PVC parts laying around that I've salvaged from other projects to build this. Thanks for sharing the weight ratios, that'll help me adjust for the weight of tennis balls.

I just checked the prices at my local lowes and the cost of the pvc is about $100.00 not including the glue.
or the 1" pipe. Even online at the plumberssupply it's about $70. Way to pricey for a art project.
I think building the frame out of 1x2x8s ($4 per) would be a better way to go.
Using pvc for the arm makes sense.
I've been thinking about using a golf club shaft ($1 at Salvation army). Just wondering if the flex would result in increase velocity of the projectile.
I think a simple spacer ($2) through the end of the arm to suspend the weight on a rope would be better. This would decrease the MOI of the weight. The weight could be a bucket/pail full of rocks.

How much weight could it throw
