    That’s awesome that you saved that thing. I worked at a used truck dealer for two decades in Bucks county. I saw these things disintegrating at four and five years old. I finally scored one a year ago with 52,000 actual original miles on it. 88 F350 7.3 5spd built by the TVA with a 34 foot reach bucket on the back of it. It’s spent its entire life just changing lightbulbs. I’ve been methodically rebuilding everything over the past year. It’s almost at the point where it’s ready to drive. Aside from some body surface rust it’s a find of a lifetime to me. It’s been 30 years since I’ve seen one of these with 50,000 miles on it.

    I cannot thank you enough for making this video. I just picked up my own obs super duty manufactured in August 94. Would it be considered a 94.5 model? It is 2wd powerstroke zf5 xlt with a flatbed and dark red interior. I hope to one day convert it to 4wd with a divorced np203/205 doubler. I would love to know more about your front axle, specifically info about the brakes and the wheel adapters. Also I am extremely jealous of your wheels lol they're beautiful and match your build perfectly.

    • @GarrettsOBSGarage
      @GarrettsOBSGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 4x4 F-Superduty is such an oddball. Not many people know what they really are. Id love to do a more in depth video of it one day. August of 94 COULD be a 94.5 Count the grooves on your engine serpentine belt. If my memory serves me correctly, you should have 7 grooves in the belt, or 7 ribs on the pulleys if its a 94.5. The 205 is a heavy case, and will absolutely require its own crossmember, and rubber mounts. You'll also have to modify the tail shaft housing of the transmission to allow the linkage to get to the 205. The front axle is a custom made axle by Quigley. Its a 70 center section, with 60 outers, but has a custom made hub to be 10 bolt. It uses the OEM Rotors and brake calipers, so there are no adapters for anything. It took me a LONG time to find wheels, and the search paid off! Thank you for the compliments! This truck turned out much nicer than originally planned haha

      So, 7 tips, or 7 dips in the pulley? If its 7 tips, you have an early 95, if you have 7 dips, you have a 94.5. I did a little research on it, and the 94.5 is a 7 rib belt, and the 95 is is an 8 rib belt.

    Im working on a 97 fsuperduty. Currently has a flatbed on it but im working on putting an 11 foot service body on it. In the process of replacing beds I need to clean up the frame. What product did you use to paint your frame and would you use it again or go a different route? Also do you happen to know what was the difference between the XLT and Xl models...mine is an xl and was tempted to bring it up to alt spec....not sure yet.

    • @GarrettsOBSGarage
      @GarrettsOBSGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I generally have the frame sandblasted. And painted with your choice of paint. I used chassis saver on most of the frames. This one was some oil based stuff in a rattle can. Only because I knew it wouldn’t see winter again. It’ll be an easy touch up.
      If you’re not going to do the sand blast route, I suggest using something like an implement paint, as it shouldn’t sheet off like an encapsulated type product may if you don’t have good surface prep.

    I have a '97 F-SuperDuty, 2WD, and it has a 161" wheelbase with a 12' bed. It has cabinets and toolboxes on it, but it only weighs 7550 per the registration. I've been looking for a 4WD, and figured I could cut down the bed and get a shorter driveshaft, but it always seems to be more work than I want to do. My property has a very steep driveway, which is why I've been wanting a 4WD. The problem with that era of trucks seems to be that the GVWR is not that high, 15000 is much lower than even an F-250 SuperDuty built today, which is over 20000 lbs. The OBS F-250s are only around 8800 GVWR, so even though I can find something with a diesel (I have the 7.5L 460ci), the GVWR doesn't gain me anything, it loses me in fact.🙄 I've always though my truck would be nicer if it was a bobtail. Mainly because 8'x12' bed is a problem driving around town. EDIT: FWIW, I only get 8 MPG on my truck also... Have you had to replace the steering column? That's a major job in itself...in fact the entire ignition system was designed by a moron.

    • @GarrettsOBSGarage
      @GarrettsOBSGarage  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A new F250 has a GVWR of around 10,000. Give or take whatever suspension package it’s got.
      Steering columns are easy, it’s explained in the dash removal video I have posted.
      460 trucks get between 8-10 as typical fuel mileage.
      4x4 swapping one of these old F-Superduties is always a lot of work depending on which route you want to go. And either one you take isn’t cheap sadly.

      @konoctiswigwam8130 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GarrettsOBSGarage Yes, GVWR includes both the vehicle weight and the payload. How much payload do you get on an OBS F-250 HD ? End of story. My GVWR on my F-SuperDuty is almost twice what the 250 is. Mine has power brakes front and back with an 11,000 lbs. rear axle. I can comfortably haul 7,000 lbs. And to think that an old OBS 250, even the HD, can hold it's own against even a 10,000 lb. trailer is absurd. A lot has improved. Having a diesel and 4WD would be ideal, but I have a lot of machines to haul and I can't afford a diesel that can do that.

    • @GarrettsOBSGarage
      @GarrettsOBSGarage  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@konoctiswigwam8130 F-Superduty GVWR is 15,000. A 95 F250 with a 7.3 is 8800. A 2017 F250 with a 6.7 is 10,000 GVWR. Which is weight of vehicle plus payload. A 2024 F350 can be 14,000 GVWR, a 2024 F550 can be 19,500 GVWR depending on options and a 2024 F600 is 22,000 GVWR. Those are specs straight from Fords website.
      Each of those trucks weigh differently depending on options and upfitted equipment. So, what they can put in the bed is different for each truck. Either way. Only one of those trucks is over 20,000 and it’s the F600.
      Towing, all of the 1995 HD trucks have a 10,000 pound tow rating for bumper pull. I don’t know what the new trucks can tow. But it’s obviously more.
