i still see trucks like these running around 20 to 30 years later. it's the "nobody care work harder" phrase in truck form.

That dashboard was new in the 1992 facelift. Go up one more weight class from this one and you were in a full-flegded medium-duty truck with a wide straight front axle, the same nose as the school bus, and those used the original dash from 1980 until they finally went to the new-for-'98 Super Duty cab sometime in the early '00s.

Now this is a truck. It doesn't coddle its occupants, its occupants have to adjust to it. This is in excellent condition for being a work truck and the engine is barely broken in. It has many more years of service left.
The intro was worth the suffering. I don't think Doug DeMuro or even Jay Leno have been lifted by a crane for a video.

Always loved the OBS Fords. My dad and my maternal grandpa both owned 1988 F150 4x4s back in the 1990s. My dad had an XLT Lariat with the 4.9 I-6 and a 4 -speed manual with a granny low gear, and Grandpa's was the Custom with a 5.0 V8 and an automatic. Wish I could find those trucks today. They were the last of the real trucks, before they all became too car-like.

I had no idea this model existed. I guess the modern equivalent would be the F600/F550

I daily drive a manual 7.3 just like this. At least my OBS f250 seems like a rather good daily driver, comfortable captains chairs and air conditioning (minus the heavy clutch of course, but you get used to it!)

I wouldnt say the 6.4 started the death of the diesel, it certainly knocked ford down to third place, with Dmax and Cummins being second and first respectively

    F-SUPERDUTY
Enough gearing to pull anything you need.
Not enough power from any of the engines to hurt the rest of the powertrain.
A frame so flexible it's impossible to break or permanently bend.

Back when trucks were trucks. I think men are now allowing their wives to dictate what a truck should be, and they keep getting softer and softer. I like locking hubs solid axles and a 4x4 shifter coming out of the floor. I once owned a 1992 F350 plow truck and what a great truck it was. 460, 4 .10 axles Pulled and hauled like a bitch. you could sit a skid of rock salt in it and it hardly went down even a little bit. When you raised that 8 ft Western it did not go down at all the plow just came up.

I drove a 93 f350 crew cab, long box, 4x4, 351 gasser with this same 5 speed manual in it. Zach you aren't a wimp when you say that truck needs some muscle to drive it!! The company work truck would have been even harder then this to drive because it's only got the 351 in it, and it was underpowered as hell, so I had to work that clutch like a fucking man! I drove it all over the okanagan valley and then for three weeks I drove the whole crew out to revelstoke for a job on the Roger's pass and our commute was two hours each way! That truck was made to work! Little hint though, it's easier to work the clutch with your steel toed boots on then it is with any other shoes! The weight of the boot helps you out lol!

My dad had a brand new 1997 Ford E-350 long wheelbase XLT passenger van with the 7.3TD and a normal automatic trans... That was a beast and quite a pleasure to drive. Except of course in the corners and sharp bends... It had all the electrics to it, had a very different radio unit than this and it just rocked... This thing? It looks like a cheapo fleet truck that is a nightmare for the poor driver who has to drive it around... And this "no-bs" approach of bare-boned vehicles sucked because it tortured the drivers and the owners at the end... And good riddance to it...
