I have 1993 f150 will the F3 work with my truck
Do you do work for the public? I have 2 7.3’s and a 6.7 if so what part of the country are you in?
Contact me via Email if you’d like to discuss that. I’m in the north east part of the US.
At work we call T-442 fuji bond, will literally destroy the pan trying to separate it from the block -super strong stuff
Yeah, it’s amazing until it’s not. Haha. Seems the RTV holds excellent until it doesn’t and then it’s not doing anything. Crazy how there is not like, middle of the road for it.
I have a cab and chassis, and my torque converter keeps failing. Turns out it was the led brake lights I put in
That’s wild. Resistors are key for using LEDs in these trucks.
Can I swap an automatic dash over the another truck that's a manual and vice versa??
Absolutely. The dash is the same. However the wiring is the point of change. If you use your original harness. You’ll have zero issues.
Very informative.... I hope to never need to refer back to this video😭😅
Thanks! And yeah, I hope I never need to again also. Haha. Sadly it’s just one of those things that happens it seems.
Thanks!
Yep, my 97 f-superduty is still white with a flatbed. Got a long way to go 😂 that blue is super nice though, whats the name or color?
Haha. Yeah. But they all take time! It’s a factory color! Royal Blue Metallic. I believe this one was RC for a paint code.
Great job, Garrett. You saved a ton of money and got to make a cool video. Kinda makes me appreciate my obs. 👍
jic will screw onto AN right since both are 37 degree seal.
It’s a nice little bit of info to know. Helps you buy what you need easier haha.
This is a smart way to mount this pump and filter assembly!
Thank you!
I kinda want to make my own hardline setup. Irate diesel looks the best in appearance and likely durability but its also 1500+. I also would love to delete my rear tank because it is restrictive and far away from the pump however I like the capacity of both my rear 17-18 gallon and plastic 23 gallon front tank. I cant put a 38 gallon rear tank because of my 5" exhaust and that is a must over the extra fuel capacity 😂 Thankfully I have recently dropped both tanks to replace sending units and the tanks were clean however the plastic pickup cone had broken apart. I replace both and they should be good.
The rear tank really isn’t any more restrictive than the front. Technically speaking, the front tank is closer, but the pickup is deeper, meaning the pump has to pull from lower down in the tank making the front tank actually the more restrictive tank. As far as hard lines go, I’ve used the Irate setup and I do like it, but hard lines are kind of a pain because they are constantly in the way for service and you can’t really move them out of the way. Plus, they are more prone to leaking if you don’t get them seated properly, and they “can” crack. PTFE line is the absolute way to go for everything in my mind.
Could you use an f6 diesel panel in a 1996 F-150?
Not really. The fuel gauge says diesel on it and the tach is different. Diesel and gas clusters have always been different as a whole.
That KC harness is pathetic, they should be embarrassed to be shipping out a product like that. The paint and body issues are frustrating. Most guys/shops treat a job like this as a scratch and shoot affair instead of a moderate restoration. I prefer to do my own paint and body work, it's cheaper and I'm the one to blame for flaws that need to fix.
I was extremely displeased with their response to the harness also. There is no way that harness is going to last in any environment, and they feel that’s acceptable quality. As for the body work, it’s very disheartening, as he said he wanted a daily driver quality, and received what we would call a “maaco” job. I’ve seen nicer stuff from a maaco job even.
Great content
Thank you!
I appreciate your contents. I have an 05 excursion with front leaf springs. I'm looking at a 2004 f250 powerstroke for $3000 to swap the front coil spring to the 05 excursion. Will the 04 f250 swap to the 05 excursion? Thanks
2004 F250 and 2005 Excursion should both be leaf springs and should both be the same up front. You need to have 2005+ to have coil springs on a Pickup.
Thanks for your instant reply.
Does it have to be a 2005+ diesel truck or can it be a gasoline truck. Thanks
@ gas or diesel doesn’t matter. Gas trucks usually had 4;10, where diesel had 3;73. Later trucks that changed with the introduction of more gears in the transmissions.
Great video! Very helpful. And that blue ford in the background looks sweet!!
Thanks! There is a video going over that truck on my channel! I’m glad you found the video helpful!
@ very cool I’m building my crew cab 95 and doing a dash swap so very helpful
@@Justin_SzCustomsawesome! Keep these old trucks alive.
Hey. I recognize that truck lol.
It’s a small world! Haha
@GarrettsOBSGarage lol. My brother took it to prom way back when
@@Ohio_Hobbies_Guy that’s been a minute then!!!
I came way back for the 99-04 7.3 stuff and watch most of the OBS vids too. You keep posting and we'll keep watching.
great video
Thanks for watching!
Sorry to hear about all the paint issues. Hopefully, the painter stands behind his work. 🤞 im usually not a fan of aftermarket front bumpers on these trucks. I just like the all original obs look, but that front bumper is really nice. Probably looks even better with the top plate on. The one thing that I have learned from giving my obs a refresh is that all the small details at the end take more time to clean up than doing the bulk of the project. Frustrating, challenging, and rewarding. Thanks for the update. 👍
I don’t know what’s going to happen yet. Hopefully it’s all good news! That bumper is my favorite, enough that it’s the same bumper that’s on my 95! Every little detail counts, and some people overlook the details completely :/.
Inside bumper looks good!
Yeah. It turned out nice! Had some help. Lol
Thank you, Garrett, for taking the time to make these videos. I research and watch alot of obs videos. Honestly, i think you have the best, most informative, and most accurate channel and information on TH-cam for obs trucks. Your knowledge of these trucks is far greater than any "officially trained" person that i have ever met. You have helped me out tremendously. You don't come across as uncomfortable. There is always room for improvement with everything in life. Whether it's content presentation, editing, organization, work ethics, family, friends, health, etc... you're doing a great job! Looking forward to your future content and wishing you and your family a happy, healthy, and productive new year! I posted a short video of my d60 swap and front frame cleanup. About a minute and a half long. It's called happy new rear! Lol 🍻✌️
Thanks! I’m glad it’s helping people, keep up the great work on your project! Thank you for the encouragement and I love the title! Hahaha Hopefully this year goes well for you as well!
@GarrettsOBSGarage thanks for the well wishes. Im several years behind on my videos. Lol. It's ok. I'm not looking to be a big channel, promote a business, or teach. Im not comfortable in front of the camera either. I just want to share with the obs community. Hopefully, I will inspire people to keep, purchase, and fix these old, beautiful, awesome trucks up. That's why I keep the videos short and sweet. Plus, I get to put some jams, my friend and I made back in 2010 to the videos.
Thank you for your videos just change the dash in my 1996 Ford F250 your video really help me out
You’re welcome! I’m glad it helped!
Let’s redo those headlights!
They are showing age for sure.
What’s up with the old f100???
It’s going to a new home (:
Thanks for all the info. You are doing great. Keep it up!
Thank you!!
Thank you for doing the channel.
Same process for a 2wd?
It should be very similar, yes.
@ thank you!
Same process for a 2wd?
"They don't make reproductions so make sure you save it" I wish I saw that an hour ago. Mine was pretty rotted and I just chopped tf out of it to remove because I assumed spares were in the bed with the other 20 body parts. I should still be able to weld it back with some extra reinforcements in order to reuse it
Oh that sucks! Crew cab guys really get the shaft from the aftermarket. No support for them :/
Wanting to do this to my 01 turbo 7.3 excursion. Any information on parts needed would be very helpful.
All of the info is in the video if I recall correctly. I also have other videos on doing extra modifications or additions as well.
Working on vans sucks, at least the Econoline is body on frame, allowing you to lift off the body, GM and older Dodge vans were unibody construction. I've seen 7.3 vans at the wrecker, seems one battery is under the hood and the other on the right side frame rail.
Unibody vans would suck so bad. We used to have a 460 van with two batteries. Both were under the hood. I haven’t gotten my eyes on a 7.3 van yet so I’ll take your word for it. This thing hasn’t been bad to work on over the years, but you can’t cut corners or rush yourself. That’s for sure.
Looking forward to this series, for the exact reasons you mention. Thanks for posting info on the E series ford van, you are correct, not much out there, which is kinda surprising, given how may have been made over the years.
I think they just fly under the radar as strictly work vehicles that are disposable. There are thousands of them out there, and no one wants them because no one cared for them. They are extremely handy and useful though!
This is going to be a great series. Even though i dont own a van or a 6.0, im looking forward to watching it.
"There's a lot of things you can do with the body off" -- and most things you'll wish you had removed the body. That being said I wish I had that rear engine hatch access in my old F250 (7.3) when I was doing turbo/y-pipe/down-pipe work.
Agreed. The body coming off will slow many things to happen! And while you can access the rear easily, accessing anything else is a chore.
How did you create the brake lines for it. i am doing this on my 97 crew cab long bed 7.3 that had all the lines removed when i got it. ( it was someone's parts truck) and i am not sure what i need to hook it back up. it did not have the rear abs valve on the frame either. what should i be looking to buy so i can create a full brake setup. i plan om running a hydro boost as well. one last thing is on the t case will a automatic transmission transfer case bolt to a 5 speed manual just so i know before i buy one and cant bring it back. Any help is greatly appreciated!!
The lines will be 3/16”. I used copper nickel and bought an assortment of tube nuts and just started matching it all up, and flaring the lines. The ZF5 and E4OD use the same output shaft size and spline so the transfer cases are the same.
Hey I have question I have 1996 extended cab f250 the firewall flexes really bad went you hit the brakes Can you do video how to fix it or talk about problems like this Garrett
I’ve never encountered that issue on a 90s Ford. The 80s Ford pickups had firewall flex but that was supposedly resolved with the firewall redesign in 1992. I’d love to do a video on it, but I haven’t encountered that or even heard of it until now.
@ hey if you would like I can do a video and send it to you and it’s a automatic truck I know the manual truck farewell did it and they made a insert to help it but there is nothing for automatic trucks
@ that insert was for 87-91 trucks. Which had a different firewall than the 92-96/7 trucks. Find my email in the about me section and email me a link or video.
retaining compound? on what surface? what type of compound?
Retaining compound is just that. Green loctite. I believe it’s 618? It’s in the directions for the rear main. I’d have to go and check what I used in the tool box. You put the compound on the wear ring so that it doesn’t come off the crank.
I have a 1994 f150, will a F5 cluster work or does it specifically need to be F4
The F4 and F5 will work in your 1994. It would be better to have the F4 just because it would be exactly the same, but the F5 would cause you no issues.
It's about time you got a 2 poster. So handy and safer for lifting cabs. Only thing I don't like about yours is while you don't have and overhead obstruction, that crossover with the hydraulic line and equalization cables is a speed bump whenever you're moving around things. I only POR over blasted steel, following their prep procedure over existing rust produces mediocre results. I'm surprised it is gone from the radius arms you blasted. I agree on the powder coating, it makes parts pretty, but really does nothing for longevity. With the CorrosionX, anything having an aviation approval instantly skyrockets the price tag.
I opted for the speed bump due to the height advantages, and that out weighs the speed bump for me. This was also cheaper than the alternative comparing lift, and easier to put up. It’s already become very useful for the next project that’s on the block, you’ll see videos for it coming up next week. I really like the 4 post more than the 2 post, but they both have their strong points and having both really is a must for anyone working on anything serious. I was completely unsatisfied with all of the POR product line when I’ve used it. Which is sad. Yes, the aviation approval makes it expensive, but it works better than anything I’ve ever used. “You get what you pay for”
how about rust converters then undercoat paint?
Rust converters are 50/50. It really depends on how rusty the part is you’re applying it to, and how thick it is. Any type of “undercoating” paint is useless. Especially rubberized. An encapsulation paint is your best solution like chassis saver, something that doesn’t get “hard” enough to peel. But is hard enough to resist damage. And soft enough to “flex” with movement and not shrink down.
We live in the far north salt zone. The nearest car wash is 30 miles away. So, I hooked our house water supply hot/cold to the outside hose. There is minimal rust on our 06/07 autos. Works great!
Washing helps for sure, but it doesn’t help in the areas you can’t get to sadly :/
@GarrettsOBSGarage I lay on the ground and spray everything, twice. My wife was driving my 07 truck and a lady asked when she got her new truck. I was it twice a year and do all the maintenance. I just undercoated and painted the entire frame. The truck looks brand new.
So. Did you have to have the extended ribbon cable? Or can I use the one they sent with mine?
I believe I mentioned in the video I used the extended cable. But yes you need the longer one.
@ ok. Thanks. Just trying to do my buddies for him thank you
The beard is back!!!! 🥵
For now. Ha!
Happy holidays my friend! Wishing you and your family another year of health and happiness. 🍻✌️
Thank you so much! You too!
Congratulations on your new outdoor lift. Awesome addition for all the stuff you don't want to do in your shop. Plus now you won't have to juggle vehicles around as much. I am in 100% agreement with your comments about por15 and powdercoat. I have had the same exact experience and results here on long Island. I think por15 used to be good over 20+ years ago but someone told me the environmental laws made them change it. Either way it's expensive useless junk. I have also followed por15s detailed instructions exactly on several different projects with terrible short term results. Again I'm going to suggest that if anyone is thinking about painting or rust encapsulating their frame, check out repair geeks video called,"friends don't let friends use por15." He does an excellent, thorough, comprehensive comparison of many of today's rust encapsulating products. There were 2 products that were clearly much better than the rest. Definitely worth the time to watch. So far I have had great results with the winner. It has only been a few years but it has already outlasted the parts that i used por15 on. It's sad that we put our trust in some of these products to preserve our trucks, invest lots of money and many hours of time, and they fail miserably. Sometimes, it's even worse than if we did nothing. I posted another video showing how much rust I had on my 97 obs. Eventually I will get to showing my cleaned up frame. I put a plug for your channel on my channels description page. I didn't have enough room left for a link tho. Excellent video and thanks for making it. Looking forward to the 6.0 van project.
Exactly what I’ve heard. And thank you for that! I appreciate it! Nothing is as good as it’s ever portrayed sadly.
