    While I think the NZ stages in DR2 are great (some of the best in the game), and some of the stages may have a similar layout/route to the real stages, DR2 completely fails to capture the true essence of NZ. Truthfully it seems much more like Australia, than NZ. I do agree with the other guy that says the road color is a pretty big deal, and in DR2 it's completely wrong, not even close in fact. The much bigger issue is the DR2 stages are far too flat, both in the vertical rise, and fall of the road, but more importantly, it doesn't have the camber that the NZ stages are legendary for having. While there are many things that I don't like about the WRC series, they did an amazing job capturing the true essence of the NZ stages. I love that the WRC 10 NZ stage has so much rhythm, and flow. The back, and forth, left, and right from one apex to the next, hardly needing to brake, while controlling the car with the modulation of the throttle, it's just so much fun to drive.

    • @SimsRacingDesign
      @SimsRacingDesign  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Certain things such as the elevation changes aren't always there due to the limitations of the game engine (so I've been told). Because of that the cambered corners aren't as noticeable. However, when you drive and flow from one corner in the next, especially in the tight and narrow sections, you really do have that camber to a large degree.
      The colour of the road surface is indeed different, I'll grant you that. The environment is also not as lush but that could well be because of the moment they visited the location for references. It looks like they visited when it was very hot and it hadn't rained for a while. At this moment in New Zealand, the weather has been rather bad and in such a climate, plants and trees suddenly blossom and become far denser.

      @@SimsRacingDesign New Zealand geology is a hard rock called greywacke (Gray Wack e), and it is grey :)
      That red orange is sandy stuff much more like Australian dirt. Because of the bed rock being so hard and durable, these gravel roads have a very nice surface and grip (mostly), so the rutted and puddled surface in DR2 is really just wrong. @Stburr91 describes our roads perfectly, they are quite unique in many ways and give a wonderful confidence.
      Having said that, this is an amazing video, I love it :)
      I'm building a new system and am looking to get WRC bundled with DR2, so I ended up here in my game research.

    • @Utube2Itube

    • @SimsRacingDesign
      @SimsRacingDesign  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Utube2Itube well, the DR3 is basically scrapped then. I believe there are certain elements they will most likely re-use/redesign in their WRC game but it's not just going to be the same game repackaged. At least that's what makes the most sense to me. We don't even know they will use the same game engine. It's pretty much certain that they'll be using the Unreal Engine for the WRC game. We don't know if that was the case for DR3. However, having those best bits from DR3 put in WRC does sound very promising.

  • @ondraspendlik9759

    Seems like the game has a lot less camber, elevation, crests and in some parts, less banks on the inside of corners (that make these corners blind in real life).
    Overall, it seems like Codemasters really dumbed it down and made it a lot less challenging. i hope the next game has more accurate stages, longer stages, and most importantly, more of them.
    Either way, thanks for showing the comparison like that, it really showed me how similar (and dissimilar) the stage is in real life.
    Also a side note, in real life, the stage actually continues for a short bit after the end (maybe 1 or 2km?), after which you're at the start of DR 2.0's other long NZ stage, the Ocean Beach stage. Yes, in real life, those 2 stages (plus the bit at the start and the bit between the two of them) are a one long stage, almost 30km long. Now that's the kind of thing I want in the next game! Surely, that would feel super rewarding just to get through the whole thing.

    • @SimsRacingDesign
      @SimsRacingDesign  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the compliment. It is always appreciated.
      It does indeed have that. I'd love to have those crests, blind corners and camber as well but what we got in the end, isn't all that bad.
      I do indeed know that Ocean Beach (DR2.0) is most of the next section of Whaanga Coast. And I'd love to have the full 27km stage in a game one day but that's not an easy thing due to the limitations of the game engine they've used in the past. However, they are moving on to the Unreal Engine people say so that'll be interesting to see if there are opportunities there.

      The surface colour is indeed different but the rest is pretty spot on. Certain things, such as elevation changes, might not be as noticeable due to the game engine's limitations (can't say that with certainty but...).
      It also depends on when they visited the location for references. The vegetation might not be as lush as it is right now but that could be down to a different season. I pretty much only watch Irish Tarmac Rallying after discovering it nearly ten years ago. The first day I discovered the Irie rallying I also watched this video with a co-driver whose personality filled the car. The way he was screaming at the driver "drive it fer me brudder, go, go punch it.." two minutes later "200 flat, slowing at the flag into hairpin right, brake early" flying past the yellow flag "brake for me brother, hairpin right" the driver comes screaming into the corner, sliding it left and right washing off the speed perfectly. Accelerates out of the corner, smoke peeling off the rear tires, the driver is laughing so hard he's almost squeaking. The co-driver "jahzus Frank ya mad khunt, come back to me three right slippy... Kelly come back brudder"
      Frank Kelly and his then co-driver Liam Brennan in that GRP4 MK2 Escort "Baby Blue" 340bhp 260nm of torque 6 speed sequential dog box. If anyone likes watching a highly skilled driver bouncing along those glorious Irish lanes at times pushing past 200km/h and the name Frank Kelly doesn't ring a bell, just watch his uploads. He is now driving with his daughter Lauren as co-driver and the man can drive. He drove his 70's MK2 Escort quicker through Moll's Gap in the wet than Ken Block in his AWD WRC prepared Escort Cossie that had easily another 100 bhp and 200nm more than the RWD MK2.
      Oh, excellent comparison video, it's incredible how much the traction levels change throughout the stage. I mean I'm stating the obvious but it is so abrupt, I can't wait for the time when rally games are able to accurately simulate that to varying degrees across a special stage.

    it's disappointing to see how much more fun and challenging the irl stage is compared to dirt's stage. baffled as to why they would chang the gravel's color, and why they would remove the harsh camber and blind crests that define new zealend in real life. it could have been handled much better

    • @SimsRacingDesign
      @SimsRacingDesign  ปีที่แล้ว

      The colour might be because of the time of year they visited for reference material. The dark grey colour is also just on the very top. Underneath it's more brown. However, they did go somewhat too far away from the original colour indeed.
      The cambered corners might be due to limitations of the game engine.
      All in all, I think it's a pretty decent representation of the real stage. We don't have anything as close to the real road in rally games. All other games have somewhat decent representative visuals but don't recreate a 1:1 version of a real life stage.

      No, the main point of the video is to showcase how close the stage in DR2.0 is to the real life stage when it comes to its layout. We don't have that in any other modern rally game such as those of the WRC franchise (95% fictional).
      Sure, in reality there's a thin layer on top that is dark grey but underneath is a far more lighter brown gravel. Something everyone seems to forget frankly. You can clearly see that if you look online for images or footage. When it's wet, the surface obviously seems far darker in colour because of water mixing with gravel.
      However, not the whole surface is made up from that dark grey coloured gravel.
      We don't see that thin layer of dark grey gravel in DR2.0 and the lighter brown layer underneath might be a bit too orangy, yes.
