Interested to see what you do on the porting. You can definitely go from mild to wild. Ported +3 crank is way to roll. 32 mm carb lightened flywheel and counter balancer. Toroidal head,+4 timing, v force reeds and you'll awaken a beast
That's pretty much my Blaster lol I added TRX 450R fron shocks and an Elka rear with remote res. Shaved half the counter balancer off, same for the flywheel. Every person who rides my Blaster can;t believe it's making this kind of power on the stock bore x stroke.

that’s what my blaster was then I went just port and polished, had stage 3 legacy Elkas all around and it was as wide as a 450
Stock Blaster keeps up with a Warrior in 1-2-3 which are shorter gears and then when you shift to 4th the Warrior pulls away. I rode with a buddy a lot on my Blaster and his warrior. Good times!
This is true, top speed on my brand new 1995 in 1995 was 54-56 mph depending on tire pressure, wind resistance, and terrain.
I remember they had an awesome power-band and thought it was 75mph top speed. But my memory could be wrong!?!
Hey mike, I owned a 2005 Yamaha blaster for around 5 months this year, I bought it in May, did a complete restoration on it, powder coated frame, swingarm, painted control arms, and of course the $90 eBay too end kit. About the top end kit, from the rebuild I put around 25 hours on it and it treated me well, and yes I did in fact beat the hell out of it, I did wheelies, pushed rev limiter a couple times and after all that, before I sold it to get my 1997 Yz125, the thing treated me well, they are indestructible little motors. One more thing my friend had the chap carb on his blaster and it did not run good, I recommend trying to source a OEM mikuni and do a rebuild on it.

That’s cool he stayed true to his word & held it til you got there. I’ve def had that happen before. Was gonna look at a Raptor last yr, & told him we will be in the area on a camping trip I’d be there Sat morning. I looked at the ad on Fri when we got in town & it said SOLD.

The blaster is a an iconic quad, for most people me included it was the 1st sport quad i ever rode, and as small and young as i was it felt like a rocket, this is going to be an epic video series, cant wait for the net video.

I am 42 and still ride my blaster. It's my #1 quad ever it's so much fun. I'm not a little guy either 245 and it goes just fine. Can't wait to see what you do with this one!

It's about time! Been waiting for a Blaster build! First four wheeler I ever bought brand new. Put about 2 grand into it and that thing was a little ripper!! Shout out to Trenga racing! I have a feeling this is going to be a great nostalgic video.
Feeling nostalgic watching this. My Blaster was my gateway quad. Technically had a moto 4 Yamaha 80 as a child but the Blaster was my first that I made my own! Awesome quads and this makes me want to get one just for the hell of it. lol Looking forward to this resto.

@@chrismoore1063 My cousin had a blue moto4 and I had a red one! My Blaster was a blue 01. It actually was stolen a few years into owning it and was recovered almost a year later with a blown top end and missing a rear tire/rim/hub. Got it back dirt cheap, tore it down and powder coated everything

Lol. Same here. But the blaster was the one my parents wouldn’t get me when I was 11 or 12. So I got one a little later when I was a teenager with my own money. Ended up buying an 04 blaster now that I’m older and have a kid. Maybe he will get into it when he’s older. I may have to pick up a 200sx or Moto4 one of these days when one shows up near me. They were great beginner quads when I was a kid. You couldn’t kill them. Trying to get my nephew (10) into dirt bikes and quads next year and I think one of those would be perfect.
Nice! My pops did a full refurb on a 1st gen blaster for me when I was 13-14. It was sick. Black and white with metallic powder coating. I rode it until I was 16 and needed more power! We had a 94 Suzuki 250r that I couldn’t get enough of. Completely stock. So much fun. He recently sold them all and I wish I would have grabbed them up. Watching your videos really makes me regret my decision of not getting them. 😫 92 blaster. 94 quad racer and an 87 quadzilla on methanol. Love the content. I’ve been hooked for weeks now 🤘🏼.

My 1st off road toy was a Blaster in the mid-early 90's! I had so much fun on it! Great memories for sure. Nostalgic for sure!!
I built an 02 , found yellow 97 plastic .. since I owned a 97 before my kids were born wanted to build a similar to enjoy with them! Had the motor built by CT 240 kit with his pipe changed the front end to disk as well as the rear disk + 3 wide +1 forward a arms + 4 wider axle , aluminum air box 34mm carb nerf bars bumpers are aftermarket . Tore down blasted and painted everything myself runs 50/50 av gas mix love the machine

My dream quad when I was younger is the same to this day, a 2006 Yamaha Banshee Special Edition. I remember seeing one on the showroom floor when I was out with my Dad picking up our utility quad from service. I was about 9-10 years old. The black with purple flames is just a badass configuration.

Can't wait to watch this series. I'd have to agree with you. The scariest parts are the carb and wristpin bearing/piston. You should be able to find oem carb and a wiseco wristpin fairly cheap. It'd be cool to see you go real wild with this thing after top quad. They are relatively cheap to build compared to most other quads.

By far the funnest bike I have ever rode . They are so light and small you can throw them around corners so nice . I think I need another one myself.
amazing content man!! i recently got a teal and light grey 1989 yamaha blaster special edition. paid 700 bucks!!! in pretty decent shape just needed a wash and a TORS delete. plastics are perfect! reminded me of the guy u bought your blaster from. honest and straightforward and held his word. good shit man and worth throwing him the extra 50 bucks for sure!
My very first quad was a Blaster. I was 14 and had never ridden anything with a clutch. I was so frustrated at first trying to learn how to take off but once i learned it i loved that thing. Still have a big love for them till this day at 38 years old
the quad is not pretty bad its a good base for a nice project cant wait to see more about it !!
Michael, honestly, do you prefer two or fourstroke? I have and have had both. My Outlaw is a 570 now, but I also have a Polaris Sport 400. My Outlaw is badass, but I would trade it for a nice banshee in a heartbeat. The twostrokes are just so simple. I had a couple of banshees years ago.

I am 40. When I was kid my dream quad was the early 90 blue and white honda 250x. I told my self I would one day buy myself one when I got my own money. The 250 was long gone by then, but with my first job after graduating I bought the brand new 400ex. This gonna be a fun series can't wait, 300lb men on a blaster 😂🤣
Just bought my first blaster today! 2005 model, missing a few minor things but it runs, I'm excited to re watch this series, maybe take some ideas from your build for my own restoration! Love the channel man.
As a kid..I remember seeing a zilla rippin up the trails. Fell in love with it instantly. Had no clue what it was until I talked to the guy. This was '94. Fast forward to 2008. I bought one and have had it ever since. Will never sell it.
Market place is full of tire kicker's and low ballers.. I'm stoked to see a Blaster build and Top Quad with them!!! I had 1990 from age 9-16yrs old, Built it when I was 14, Wiesco piston, Boysen reeds, DG pipe and silencer, changed the sprockets to gear up, put 18"X11" HOLESHOTS on it.. It ran strong up to 55mph! Loved that Quad!

I have an 2006 blaster as well and up until February of last year it had its stock motor. Me and my dad did nothing to it except change the oil whenever it needed it but now it has a fully rebuilt motor and it runs clean. Great video love the channel

My dad bought me a brand new 1995 purple and yellow blaster when I was 12. It was a great kids quad that I beat on for many many years. Over the years of abuse it got 2 top end rebuilds and a complete clutch, not bad means I rode it constantly and sometimes long distance.
The Blaster was my dream quad at 14 and I bought my friends 89. My dad and I fixed it up and a year later, sold it to a friend to buy an 85 250R from another friend. 4 months later my dad made me sell the R. He was mad I sold the Blaster so cheap after we put all that time into it and the R was too fast and dangerous lol. 25yrs later I got another 85 R but he can’t make me sell this one!
I always wanted a Blaster, of course I wanted every ATV back in the '90s. Thankfully, my father was smarter than me, which is why I am typing this now! Outside of that, I remember thumbing through all the ATV magazines back in the day and looking at all the adds with power adders and their claimed increase said part would give the Blaster.

My first big boy quad was a 97 Yamaha Blaster. I loved that quad so much.
Funny part about watching this video was I tired to give you a lt250s with no response. It ran ,drove and full of new and old stock parts. I just wanted someone with knowledge to show the body conversion to the lt450r plastics so other people could have hope for their own lt250s. They are super rare so can't buy new plastics so conversion was only hope. But great buy on the blaster and can't wait for the restored.

Back in 1991 when I was looking for my first quad, my choices were, Blaster 200, Suzuki 230, Warrior 350, and the Honda 250X.
Yes, I went with the Honda 250X, but the reasons are this, the Warrior 350, was more money, and I just did not like the Suzuki for some reason, and the Blaster 200 was 2 stroke, and I knew with it being my first quad, I would be Idling a lot, and I was told that 2 strokes foul out when idled long times, and also, the blaster had drum brakes, and steel wheels.
Great to see how to do the color Rendering ! takes quite a bit of time.
Was Great To see the interaction between seller, and the buyer, and extra COOL that you did not haggle on the Price.

The majority of my years of riding was a 2001 Blaster with little to no brakes! You really learn to ride when you don't have brakes! lol
Quick point though, the first generation Blaster did have a rear disc brake, but it was a mechanical disc, not hydraulic. The brakes were supposedly decent from the factory but as soon as they wore out they never worked again. I replaced pads, caliper, and cable and never got them to work again. The front brakes only ever barely worked even with new parts. And by barely I mean you always just grabbed them fully and steered around obstacles. You could hold the brakes and go down a hill and it would still be too fast. No concern of stoppies! If I got straight on a reliable quad after the Blaster I would probably have gone over the bars!

The color scheme you went with looks really good. I've built well over 100 Blasters in my day and some were pretty quick. The small chassis makes them a blast and perfect for kids under 120lbs. Looking forward to what you do with it. Big-bore????

I owned a 06 special addition, learned how to use clutch dad got it for me for my 9th birthday brought back a lot of memories thank you can’t wait to see it finished
Fireball a-arms, 1st gen YFZ Shocks, +2 swing arm, durablue axle, Airsal 225 big bore cylinder, get head milled at Ken O’Conner Racing for the Airsal cylinder, Air Striker carb, 450R rear shock (Ken O’Conner makes bushings your use 450r rear shock), Dynoport right bend high volume pipe, a good ol Mike Sabo port job and that thing will RIP!!!! Trust me bro, people make upper 40hp to mid 50hp range more often than you think. Have Ron do the YFZ front and 450R rear shock and it will be crazy!! If you have any specific questions let me know and I have a couple guys that I can point you towards that are legitimate pros and “big timers” in the Blaster game. I’ve been dealing with blasters for 25 years.

The blaster is one of the best all around wheeler from mountain trails to sand dunes love mine just replaced all the bearings and hopefully for you the 06 carrier bearings are supposed to be easier to change I was unable to get the sprocket off axle ended up buying a banshee axel and new carrier been interesting need to go out and ride test it out

In the 1990s I always wanted a Scrambler 400. We were always pushing or pulling the 2wd quads out of the mud but those quads were always the best on fire roads and dunes.
I had a blaster when I was 15 till 21. Went from stock to the big block kit and man..... she hauled ass.

I've actually had good luck with chinese ebay kits with my blaster. the key for me was chamfering the ports because they are really rough from the factory and can catch a ring. other than that they have held up pretty well surprisingly!
I've owned a blaster and I'm currently doing a 06 one right now. I've also owned a stock blaster, lakota, and 300ex all stock all at the same time. The 300ex pulled them all every time even switching riders.
Ya that just happened to me on my last deal. I was going to get a raptor 660, and I told the guy I was on my way. I got there, he said his brother took it, and he was even gone from his shop. I talked to his friend. Just wasn't too happy about that lol 😂. And very upset was 45 minutes away too. Always love your videos bro!! Keep'm up 🤙🏽😁

Only thing I’d change is white front fenders, I love the idea of the red hood, tank and seat. Either way, can’t wait to see it done!
Arisal 225, Vito’s 3mm stroker rod, 34mm carb, lightened flywheel, counter balance shaft and a right bend pipe and these things absolutely rip the airsal with the 3mm rod will walk a Vito’s 240 kit out of the box.

Had my blaster over 20 years. Been through all types of builds on it. Now it’s just a drag bike to play around with. It’s pretty quick for sure. Stock no way!

lol.. “If this were me and this were my quad.. *pauses*”. It’s wild you can’t find a running blaster for under $1k in PA these days. I remember growing up in NE and SE PA the going rate for a solid, running, complete blaster was $600-$800. IIRC they were $2800-$3200 brand new from the dealer. Paid close to $2k for a nice, non basket case 2004 in spring 2021 from a guy in Bucks County. Yes, they are practically antiques at this point but the sheer number of blasters that are out there 😑. Can’t wait to see how this one turns out!
My dream quad growing up was the Kawasaki Mojave they were cool when I was young. Can't wait to see the build you always knock them out of the park. Love the color scheme!!

Awesome stuff as always Mike. The Blaster I had was a beat up heap my father was nice enough to get me as my first sport quad. He got it from a guy he knew that used to own a small engine shop and what customers would do is they'd trade him their machines toward paying for work or toward a better machine he had for sale. If it was in decent enough shape to fix he'd then fix the problems and resell it.
Mine was a machine he just got in and was never worked on. So when we got it the piston and cylinder was so wore out that it literally lost compression within a week or two. While it was down we replaced all a-arm bushings, the swing-arm bearings and all of the front bearings in the hubs. The axle bearings funny enough were still good. We put on new sprockets and chain and because the engine lost compression we put a Vito's 240 kit in it. I also put in a set of Boysen Power Reeds which helped it out a little more.
While it was apart we stripped down the frame and repainted it yellow. Of course it wasn't a professional paint job but for using yellow tractor paint and working on it down in the basement over winter time it looked better than what it did when we got it. I had a set of those classic square profile knobby tires on the back that pro ice racers always put ice studs in. I don't know where I got it from but I also put in a back shock that came from some big Yamaha dual sport bike.
The thing was so stiff I remember watching my younger brother doing wheelies in 3rd gear with him and another person on it. I didn't care it was fun. The only thing we never fixed was the gear return spring for the kick starter. The original was toast so we just took the broken chunks out and called it a day. So when it came to starting the bike I had to kick it really hard to get the starter gear to engage.
Also, quick tip when it comes to the key switch. My Blaster was a much older model, one from the 80's I think so I don't know if Yamaha kept the same key switch on the later units. But if they did and if you have a problem starting the bike because the key switch is crap or if you're like me and didn't have a key at all just unplug it and leave it unplugged. My Blaster never came with a key so we just unplugged the key switch and ran it that way. I think all we did was plug the wires into themselves and just shut the bike off with the kill switch on the handle bars.
Don't mind my vague memory. I am trying to remember what I did 20 years ago when I still had mine. :)
I had a 91 blaster when i was 17. Blew it up 3 times before i sold it! lol didn't know what i was doing than... Im 40 now and do things way differently than i used to! I have been thinking of getting another blaster and doing a budget build on if for my nephew that will be ready to ride something like this in a year or two! So this top end kit i would take a chance on! what the heck! lol
I worked on a couple of blasters and I’m so excited for this build. You can’t adjust jetting on the Chinese carbs, and they just suck it’s not even worth it haha. I just pick up a oem carb off parted Yamaha blasters on Facebook marketplace for cheap and they always clean up nice !!
I sure hope the jetting is adjustable lmao, otherwise I'm not running it lol. I'd prefer OEM too but I will test this one out and see what happens.
Bro ive got a 99 Yamaha Blaster and it is meant condition, I have ran 3 different exhaust systems including FMF and DG as well but if you want the best possible sound out of it, it's gonna cost you a pretty penny but the sound is well worth the money plus the added HP is always a plus too, you have got to go with the B1- Toomey full racing exhaust! It will blow you're mind how raw it will make you're Blaster sound, Im so so stoked for this build, as the Yamaha Blaster is definitely in my top 5 quads of all time, grew up riding them and still can't go without one in my fleet, there just so nostalgic for me and many others as well. Definitely true. It’s rare you can trust anyone on market place. I recently bought a yz125 off marketplace. Turns out it was stolen and the cops came and got it from me. So I’m out the money I paid for it and I had already ordered $1000 worth of parts for it.

Awesome Mike... the blaster is such an amazing quad so excited your doing a blaster build really wish they would do a modern version I'm certain you'll do the blaster justice as you do with all your builds you rock mike
It needs some love but that rear bumper and dual throttle is sick, and the fmf is a bonus, I have put alot of work into mine, the frame, hubs, handlebars and brackets are powder coated, I bolted in a 87 Dt200 motor with the harness and working ypvs, magnetron ignition, vf4 reeds, dynoport pipe, etc etc, Rm125 rads mounted, it has taller gears then the Blaster but its more fun to drive, it does about 70mph with 18s and 13/43 gearing, Those China needle bearings are garbage, I learned the hard way, awesome videos bud

My childhood dream was a bkaster and a Bombadeir 660. I got the blastet in my late 20's though. I want another one SO bad. They are so much fun!!!!
I had a coating on one of those carbs start to bubble off and I got stuck full throttle😂. Would love to see this thing wider and longer with a nice ported 240 and some good suspension
Dude that sounds terrifying lol. The 240 kit is confirmed but it will be after the stock bore build. I am debating on whether I want to stretch it or make it wider.

I’ve rebuilt sooo many blasters. They all come with “piston slap” every single build lol, you can tell the cheap cylinders from a mile away, since the sound of the piston slap sounds different. The actual bore is usually really straight and true, and coated very well, but the fins and all the rest of the aluminum castings is lighter and sucks!
Just got home from the shop, and boom got alert from Sabo..new freaking video..awesome made my night..Merry Christmas to the Sabo family from the Bye family in Pennsville nj.

3mm Vito’s stroker crank, 240 big bore kit, ported cylinder, vforce reeds, 34mm carb.
Blaster looks like a fun 2stroke to ride.
Shift star mod, head milled, stroke it and port it to match, big carb, +2 +1 fronts, +3 swinger, +4 axle, drw case saver. Then compare the data.

I literally just completed a 2004 (Red Frame/White Plastics) last week. It was completely stock except for stickers. Lol. I have to disclaim Mike I have a severe case of OCD Build Syndrome. Yes, worse than you bro. These are fun to do because of the simplicity of the entire machine. Here are to major problems from buying one used.... High idle all day long for 2 reasons, TOR and always missing an intake gasket at the reed boot. These were designed to use only one on the cylinder side. Anyway, 3 must do's.... TOR delete and correctly meaning wire jump at the bars not down by frame using new throttle cable and drilling and tapping new air screw hole into carb body. Oil Injection delete and correctly by removing actual pump and gear and shaft with block off going mix 32:1. E Brake from perch completely wires and all..... Have fun because they are actually fun to work on as they are to ride.

That blaster is going to look sweet! But I think the rims would look awesome in gold. Just my opinion but keep doing the amazing work!
When I bought my 95 blaster I fixed the front brakes so they somewhat worked and built a custom bracket to run banshee rear hydraulic brakes. Worked perfectly
when you go all out dont go vitos go airsal 225 it has aggressive porting and when put with a kehin 32mm and a 3mil crank and a right bend ct pipe and that thing will make 35-40hp. extend the a arms and a extended swing arm add good suspension and that will be a dream on the track and dunes

Honda 250r was my childhood dream quad… finally bought one back in 2010 that was already built and about 8 months later was offered $1500 more than I paid soooo 🤷🏻♂️
I was so sad when I sold my blaster, but i had no way of getting out to somewhere to ride. One of the easiest quads to work on and with a little work could really rip!
Cant wait to see this series. Ive wanted to restore one for awhile. Would love to see it widened with good suspension
For the initial restoration it will be stock width but after that I'll be doing a 240 kit and it's either going to be a stretched quad or a widened quad 😂

You know I’ve said this a lot and really can’t wait till you build one. I use to have one 2003 cannondale 440 miss it so much only got to have it couple years. Definitely one of the best four wheelers I’ve owned
I've been looking at one of these long before he talked about making a video I've owned four or five in the past. I've been searching marketplace and you're right all I've been getting a jerks and a lot of people want way too much for a junk I got guys and it '2,500 and they're not even sure if it's going to start. I don't really have the cash they're asking for these junkers. I've talked to you several times in the past I'm the guy that's been fighting cancer I had to sell my 450R and my Yamaha warrior the help pay for cancer meds. I'm hoping I can find one within my budget I would love to have another blaster
