I usually fill the energy tanks in Armored Armadillo's stage. Just keep killing the enemies right at the start of the stage and they'll keep respawning. Even occasionally drop lives too.
Fun Fact: In math, Sigma is used to indicate summation, or adding everything in a series together. In that sense, Sigma kind of lives up to his name: you beat him using the summation of everything you've been doing the entire game.
I once derived a formula of something where I had a product symbol inside a summation symbol. That actually looked pretty amazing, I had never seen an equation like that before.

This does not work at all. Sigma frequently knocks you off with his other hand if you're standing there. It does it over and over for me I'm convinced he's glitched sigma into thinking he's not standing on his hand. This is all luck

The other comments about spending hours blowing up the little bugs to recharge the E tanks, was exactly what I did over a summer only to be defeated by the second head stage. It never occurred to me as a kid to jump on one of the hands as it floated down.
I would say a win is a win. I could never beat this game and doing a little research before I try myself to reclaim the glory I could not get as a child.... I will return and let you know how it goes.
The first time I beat the game. I only used the X-Buster. I was dashing, jumping, and holding the X-Buster throughout the whole game. Years later I only learned you can use the rolling shields to inflict more damage. I had no internet or TH-cam to figure it out. Lol

I actually find x-buster to deal more damage than the other weapons....
I did it on Sigma 2nd phase and still only got 1 hit damage.
Besides weaknesses, the X.Buster is (in my opinion) the best weapon.

To be honest, I didn’t even know you could use the buster on the final form. I assumed Rolling Shield was the only way to damage him.
only the max charge (pink) buster shot damages him. Everything else just bounces off

i just downloaded the x collection for xbox and im on this stage now. ha right now i'v tried 4 times and haven't made it pass sigmas first fight.
Pro tip: The electric attack thingy from Spark Mandrill works best on Sigma's first form.
Honestly, the x-buster fully charged or the roll shield from armored armadillo works best.

I have finished this game back in the day and can say that no Dark Souls boss took me as long and as many tries to beat as Sigma.

For maximum damage do the following: For the dog, use the Ice Gun. For Sigma, use the E Spark and for the final dragon, use Rolling Shield.
Star Wars Sigma does so much damage not because of the player is unskilled but because your fingers get tired to where you get hit by his basic jump.
