This video was what I needed to switch to Modern. I've been killing myself over Ken's combos. It's a memorization nightmare and getting his Shoryuken out consistently isn't happening. I get it out about 85% of the time. That's unacceptable. I've been talking myself into and out of Modern(it's more consistent but it feels cheap and dirty). Some vets who exclusively used classic(like me since I'm from SF2 Arcade&SNES days) think Modern is cheating. I didn't understand everything about Modern Pros/cons until now. Thanks for the video. I need my head space for MK1 combos when it comes out. I'm just gonna learn Modern for this game.

i do. i'm a decades long casual that stopped buying fighting games because i learned over time that i was wasting a lot of money to actually only have time to get good enough to have fun with like two or three characters. on top of that, theres always character types that i would outright avoid the further their mechanics leaned from shoto, which from a consumer standpoint, just ends up as wasted content.
not even including all the hours you can sink into World Tour, by the fact alone that you can use and have fun with every character in the game, this is the greatest return on value i've ever gotten from a tradtional fighting game, and it's important that it's from the same series that introduced the world to the genre along with a monotonous control scheme that was only intended for really specifc outdated hardware that was literally designed to get you to put another quarter in it as soon as possible.
and again, speakiing as a 20-year long casual, the motion inputs have never been a problem; being able to do raw specials is what makes Street Fighter more fun than Mortal Kombat where special moves are only at the end of a cryptic combo you have to take time away form the main game in order to memorize. this is why modern controls are my new bar from a full price fighting game. the story and fatalities in the new MK1 look, in every sense of the word, sick. but if they don't have some kind of similar auto combo, i'm waiting for a heavy sale

I have played SF ever since it became SF2. I have never tried "Modern". Until SF6. Man, I appreciate this input method so much now. It just basically makes the game more fun as I can use more characters at a level I would consider appropiate in regards to my skill level. No more only playing ranked exclusively as Ryu, Ken, or Cammy ! SF6 is AMAZING. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

At around 3:08 you say you only get one type of Sandblast, but when I tried the demo's tutorial last night, it indicated you can still use the 'Classic Control' inputs to do a light, medium and heavy Sandblast.

I noticed with modern that the 20% damage cut only happens if you use the simplified version.
If you do do the actual input of the move you'll still get the full damage of the special despite being using modern controls.
This also applies during combos if the combo scaling has reached far enough in the combo
For example I tested one of jp trial combos and it does the same amount with or without the full input.
As for some of the moves you lose, the assisted combos may have some of these moves at the start of the combo
I.e.: Dhalsim's crouching MP is found in assist combo 1
JP's standing MK in assist combo 2
So you can still access these moves by holding the assist button down and pressing the button you're looking for.
That being the case you still miss out on some good normals.
Jp's crouching mp being one example.
You also will lose variations of some specials.
I.e. you only get the easy input version jp's striborg, since the input for the move is used by trobolan
So in exchange for some optimal combos depending on the character and some moves I honestly think you can still do pretty well.

I've done the regular inputs since SF2 on the SNES. But I can't do them 100% of the time, particularly when it needs to be quick, and I'd rather just play Modern than get frustrated over missinputs. The cool thing about Modern is that you can still do the basic motion for the full damage, and you also do still get multiple versions of some specials. But at the same time I use the quick specials for inputs that I drop more often on Classic, like SPD and Supers. The only thing I'm missing out on with Lily is some command grab damage and some Super damage (since I use other specials with regular inputs), but in return those moves come out super quickly and 100% of the time. The game's so much more fun when you can rely on those tools like that.

    EDIT: changed exploding to explaining
Ok, so I’m gonna try my best at explaining this. This is how Tekken and Street fighter do their numeral system.
    789
    456
    123
You see those numbers? That 5 means your stick is in neutral. If 5 is neutral than 8 is up, 4 is left, 6 is right, and 2 is down.
So instead of saying, down, downright, right, you’d say 236 P 236 HP
LP MP HP stands for light punch, medium punch, heavy punch. with this you’ll already know what LK MK and HK mean.
Now there’s cases where like Mortal Kombat and Injustice use a diffrent system.
    Where there’s only 1234
    1 X/square, 2 Y/triangle ,3 A/X, 4 B/O
So for mortal Kombat you’d say like back forward 2 for mileena to throw her sais or back down 4 for Mileena to do her ball roll.
Both these systems are universal systems that the FGC has created to help players from all consoles understand one another.
Hope this helped teach some people how to read the numeral system. Cause I know some of my friends who I’m helping to understand it. It’ll help everyone read the combo guides and tutorials of characters that fighting game veterans make.

No one i know plays this kind of game even my friends. I feel too tired about combos, i do not know how to make myself better with this. And now i have modern control from sf6, i love it and it makes the game easier. Maybe im feeling myself is a loser but that’s ok because now i can play this game with the smile on my face. Didn't see this in the top comments so here I go:
You can still manually input l/m/h specials in the usual way to do a special for full damage. Eg qcf + attack for a fireball
With some characters this is the only way to access some specials.

As someone who played some fighting games in his life but has never touched an SF game, what exactly is the point of locking moves behind overly complicated input strings? The skill should lie in reactions, combos, and knowing what to do and when, how mix- ups, frame data etc, not being able do some 12 button string to even get the attack out in the first place.

    • @onestep
      @onestep  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Ya I totally agree funny enough lol that’s exactly where MOST the skill comes from, in the reaction, the neutral game, how and when to punish your opponent. A lot of classic players think that because they did a complicated special move into a complicated super move that that makes them “better”, but the fail to react and punish their opponents anyways. So I agree 😎

Maybe this‘ll help me to get into fighting games. I have been playing UFC 4 for a while now and it‘s just less frustrating than other fighting games, because the inputs are very simple. Like I respect how much of a learing curve is needed for some of these games because of the inputs, but it just always demotivated me to play when I lose and it feels like I lost because I couldn’t press a series of buttons in quick succession instead of losing because I made the wrong decision/the opponent made better decisions. I mean even the wins didn’t feel very rewarding to me. I guess I don‘t like it as much when difficulty in games is because of the tools themselves that are hard to use. I like it when the challenge arises from whats in front of me instead of whats in my hands. Me being a big dark souls fan is probably a testament to that, but anyways: I think these controls will help me ease the game and that input barrier will maybe start to disappear after I put some effort into it.

Never really played fighting games, but I tried SF6 at a friend using modern controls. What made me buy SF6 however was that you have both the regular move back to block and the parry. I love that SF6 actually has a good balance between offence and defence, with several tools that can be used defensively. Modern controll allowed me to try the game and actually get into it, but since then I have switched to classic control and I enjoy learning that and the extra skill it requires. SF6 is the first fighting game ever I have really gotten into. Tried Tekken 8 as well, but it just dosen’t feel as good to play… plus the floaty juggles where the characters just lie horizontal look absolutely like shit 😂 But also the balance between offence and defence in Tekken does not feel great. All Morden controls are is like playing dnf duel or granblue fantasy versus controls. The 20% damage lose is not a big deal because it’s only in supers and most of the time all your damage comes from counter hits and throws.

Well it’s super and specials but ya you can still do some pretty nasty stuff on modern!

Street fighter 6 is my first fighting game and I play it on modern. And it's so much fun. Now I actually think what moves to use instead of just mashing shit... Realy like it. Could by my game of the year. And I'm also just a casual player to. And I also don't want to play muktiplayer anyway. Only arcade story mode and other singel player modes.

Are some moves missing from characters on modern controls?

A couple yea, so you’d have to make due with the kit your given from the character😅
