    Im a designer and bought the 16" ProArt OLED as a reliable backup and portable surrogate to my custom-built desktop. For this purpose the machine is awesome and exactly what i wanted! Plenty of power which easily matches my 5yro desktop, it actually outperforms it. The touch screen is not a critical issue for me as i have either a StudioPro or Cintiq tablet to connect and work on plus i use a mouse (im left-handed so can work between mouse and stylus) but i opted for it because it does come in handy in times where i only carry the laptop and want to sketch. I give the actual laptop a big thumbs up! In regards to using the screen as a drawing tablet, i found it much easier if i turned off the touchscreen

  • @khoifoto
    @khoifoto ปีที่แล้ว +127

    The idea of having stylus to draw on the screen feels like an afterthought. It's nice to lay flat 180 degrees but when you need a drawing screen to make money, no laptop screens beat a dedicated drawing tablet.

      Samsung Galaxy Pro laptop easily beats all tabs (and cintiqs)
      Because first of all it IS wacom pen tech itself. But that gets added to the god tier samsung screens.
      Which results in 2ms overall latency. Which is much faster than both ipad pro pen and wacom products themselves, let alone surface pro whose pen is not great to begin with

    If I had to switch from a Macbook to a Windows laptop it would be an ASUS, I love their Pro Art monitors I have a 1440p and a mini-LED Pro Art Monitor right now and I have owned a couple of their premium machines. My only issue with a Widows machine is noise. After using the M1 Max Macbook Pro 16 and a M2 Max 14 inch I just can't go back to those Jet Engine Laptops. But it looks really nice and I would really consider one if I needed a PC.

Also since its pulling over 100W my guess is that the battery will suck. This is nice device but It also has drawbacks and I think it is important to include those.

    Great review.
    I got this laptop mainly because of the screen but I also like that it's user expandable. I always try to buy laptops that are easy to upgrade and Asus made it a point to write the words "user expandable" in the specs.
    I'll be getting another 32GB stick (the 2x48GB is not worth the extra cost right now) and a 4TB SSD for the second slot (already have a 2TB for the main one). SSD prices keep dropping so not having the SSD glued in or soldered on the motherboard is a huge pro.

    I really thank all of you reviewers for all the hard work that you all putting in to give us viewers the right information to make a decision.
    However, I request all of you reviewers to add one more parameter, Temperatures!
    I bought a fully loaded workstation class laptop, i9, 128GB RAM, 4080, 1 x 2TB, 2 x 8TB, NVMEs, all the bells and whistles and the cost was a good 8-9K USD, fully configured. The big problem, Temperatures! Unusable temperatures. At am ambient room temp of 25C (77F) the surface temperature on the keyboards touching 40-45C (104- 113F) and the hinges and the bottom lid touching 52C (125F)! You could get second degree burns on your 'lap' ! Thankfully after fighting with them for months, temperature readings using my FLIR and when they had nowhere to go, they accepted to refund me for the entire machine.
    I am going around pasting this same comment on all laptop reviews review videos. Please do not feel that I am trolling or pestering. I am just requesting you to add this to your reviews in the future.

    Honestly they should have made a DUO version of the Pro Art series or should have come up with a version with the eGPU integrated with Lenovo 9i's idea of two screens. That would make me get one of these. I currently use the Zenbook Pro Duo. The extra screen is a boon but I would have wanted the abilities of the Lenovo 9i.

    • @thng670
      @thng670 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I used the original pro duo and back then (2019), it had everything you would want in a laptop dedicated to content creation. It was kind of considered part of the pro art series. Also, it was pretty much the only laptop with an 4K Oled screen. The pro duo series was supposed to be the ultimate content creator's laptop line, then they released the studiobook with quadro cards in it to make it clear that the studiobook is made for professionals/creators.
      Since then, the pro duo has been pushed to the side a bit and catered to an enthusiasts oriented niche market, but is no longer the content creators' flagship. I was surprised to see how the latest iterations of the pro duo were ''worse'' than the earlier versions and it was clear to me that they gimped it in certain aspects (such as the 4k Oled screen) in order to not outshine the studiobook (which also started to have regular rtx cards). Currently (2023-2024), if you want the 4070 card, you need to go with the studiobook pro art because the pro duo only goes up to 4060 in Canada. Also, the pro duo no longer has a 15.6in oled 4k screen (14.5in with 2.8k res).
      I understand why they had to do this from a business perspective but it kind of sucks for the consumers. The pro duo with the 12th gen and 3070ti outshined its studiobook counterpart in nearly every aspects and has superior tech/innovation so they had to gimp it in order to avoid market cannibalization as it is much easier to market ''pro art studiobook for content creators'' product lineup.

      @@thng670 Thanks for the time to write about this. Yes definitely sucks when business minds take over rational thinking in terms of consumer friendly product categorization. Samsung is guilty of this as well. Such as shame. Asus can be amazing but does make poor decisions quite often. The thinness of the Zephyrus series is also missed for the new iterations. Sometimes they take several steps back for each step forward.

    • @thng670
      @thng670 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@babyblu5590 yea it's pretty sad unfortunately. Yes Samsung is definitely guilty of this as well. The note series and the Z fold series are good examples. The Note series used to be the ultimate phone . It was Samsung's real flagship phone (even better than the official Flagship S series). It had all the best tech Samsung had to offer in one device. It came with a premium price of course but you used to get what you paid for. Nowadays, they seem to favour diversification of their products and sometimes have borderline "sus" pricing ladder strategies. You can't have one ultimate device anymore like you used to get with the note series (for example the note 9 or note 10+). I've owned a couple of Z fold series phones and recently the s23 ultra and it is clear to me that they do not wish the Z fold series to outshine the S Ultra (noticeably worse camera on the Z fold).
      Again, I understand why they do this from a business perspective but I it does suck for the consumers. Samsung even made fun of Apple on social media because they didn't offer chargers anymore. Guess what? A year or two later, samsung stopped including chargers with the phone too. The note series had all the bells and whistles and was 1-2 generations ahead of the competition. They even used to include extras such as USB adapters and VIP service/perks with their most premium phones. The Z fold 2 even came with a free meal at a Michelin star restaurant, golf club, 1 free screen repairs , dedicated 24/7 phone/concierge service). The phone cost around 2200$-2400$ in 2020 which was ridiculous but they did their best to make sure that you get what you paid for.

      I don't get the point with duo, just buy an extra portable monitor? I have two of those babies in my workbag all the time for whenever I need them. The problem with duo is that you cant use it in your lap because of the placement of the keyboard. It does not deserve to be called a laptop. Its literally a portable desktop with an attached screen....

    • @thng670
      @thng670 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Having extra monitors means more wires/plugs. Although this can be practical, it is too clunky and not an elegant setup for some. Not everyone wants to carry multiple monitors in their bag... Sometimes you just need a small secondary that gives you a quick boost in your workflow. The amount of time you save by not having to search or minimize multiple windows is often ignored. The Duo is great for this.

    you call it an apple silicon "killer" yet when you unplug it from power it loses 70% of its performance and that battery life is less than 1/2 of a 16" mbp, plus the trackpadis nowhere near as good
    on top of that the display doenst get bright enough for real hdr editing. yes its got more raw performance, but once you get to a certain point wither performance, it stops being a limiting factor and things like battery, brightness, trackpad, not having a giant chunk on the back, etc affect your experience much more than the performance difference.
    Performance is the only thing that matters in a desktop, but in a laptop theres a much larger picture to look at.
    If you use premiere as well, LTT said that they used a macbook pro 14 for a lot of server storage premiere tests because the macos version of premiere crashes much less and any performance gains provided by a more powerful computer are cancelled out by the sheer number of crashes.
    And as mkbhd said, "can it run final cut?"

    i have a question please, my best friend just reveived his own, and i tested it few hours to be sure this is the one i need, ok, it's built like a tank, may be the most solid laptop i ever seen, BUT the screen is soooo disapointing! i'm not talking about colors or brightness, i'm juste talking about PIXELS ! did you notice that pixels are NOT really SQUARE like a normal display ? i don't know how to explain that, but sharpness was not "normal" becose of the shape of pixels, at it disturbed my eyes, there is few artefacts that it's very noticable in white pages, it feels like you have a grid layer over the display, i taked a picture with macro lens to be sure, and the pictures was very strange, i never seen pixel shapes like this before ! so know i'm not really sure anymore that this is the laptop i need :( can you tell me if this disturbed you ? thank you

    10:25 false, you can get 96gb of ram from a macbook m2 max and its unified which feels like half of the needed on a standard windows device doing heavy workloads bc of the efficiency. And even running out of memory and swapping in ssd is not gonna be a worry due to the ssd swapping durability guarantee for years without any damage that professionals in computing affirms and doesn't happens in an standard ddr5 memory from the rest of the hardware manufacturers.
    That unified ram is also the VRAM of the gpu, you aren't limited to a sad amount of 8 gb of vram in literally 2023 bc nvidia wants it.
    And you aren't gonna get lower results every time you run a 10 minutes benchmark bc of x86 overheating issues that happens in a laptop

    Also the 2nd screen is creators playground for having additional apps reference material or putting video time line controls leaving main display for bigger playback window. In my opinion so much more creator creating then this laptop. And either just as powerful cpu,gpu and 120hz Oled screen to boot. So yes this is a great creators tablet. Just may not be the only one or even the top pick among creators.

      @@karthikeyan53 I’m not specifically talking about battery life. I know x86 won’t be as good as ARM but I’m just curious on how it will perform while unplug.
      Usually high performance laptop with discrete graphics will perform extremely terribly on battery which defeat the whole purpose of portability.
      As for now only Apple can deliver such a high performance while on battery with their M-series chip. Performance will not cripple a tiny bit while unplug.

    • @karthikeyan53

Even Intel uses 60w on battery then laptop will die within 1.5hrs if laptop has 100wh battery. That's why power usage is limited in Intel laptops on battery and it deliveres bad performance.
      MacBook is different. Max power consumption of M2 pro is just 30W. MacBooks comes with 100Wh battery. So 30W usage will keep laptop upto 3hours. That's why MacBook perform same even in battery.

    As much as I love other people opinions and as much as I respect Windows laptops for they're purpose you cannot say that it is an M1 killer. Because I9 + 4070 = Plugged in! Which kills the idea of laptop. Also battery will not be pretty good if you try compiling some code or doing some video editing (which you can't really do because you don't have enough power from battery to sustain the components). With all that said I love this laptop for what it is and what it achieves, but it's far from an M1 killer.

Can you advise me on which card would be better for me. I've talked with some techs at Nvidia and they seem to think for professional editing I would want the ada card. Although I don't like the idea of a GeForce gaming type card perhaps I'm mistaken. Any light you could shed on the topic would be greatly appreciated. Also if you might recommend a laptop. Not so much the ROLLS ROYCE but something as good without all the fancy 3D bells and whistles that is maybe a cheaper but does the same job when it comes to editing video. For me I just want and need a laptop that will do the editing job well with a proper screen with pro color for grading. I use mostly adobe premiere but sometimes resolve. Thank you.

    It's barely better than an M2 Ultra. What will make the Mac stand out even more is the power efficiency and battery life. Seriously. Like I am able to handle a intensive workload and it will still give a 5 hour or more battery life. This, like with all other PC laptops, will give me like 1-2 hours of battery, and the system will be automatically slower without being plugged in. The performance plugged in, I'm sure, runs circles around a lot of other things, just not this, mate. This might be the Rolls Royce of creator laptops, but I'd rather have the Honda Sport Hybrid that gets me 50MPG, with a 3% performance different, and not 23MPG...
