U.S. Soldiers Assault Taliban Compound After RPG Ambush In Afghanistan

- Helmet cam combat footage shows U.S. Soldiers assaulting alleged Taliban compund after being ambushed by a Taliban RPG gunner.
The soldiers are seen walking towards the compound when an RPG fired from close range suddenly zips past them leading to a short but intense engagement in which the soldiers assault the compound from where the RPG was shot under heavy supression fire.
Josh Smith th one who recorded this footage said the following about this video: "2012 Paratroopers in Ghazni Afghanistan. RPG initiated ambush by the Taliban. We pushed through the ambush and had rolling firefights until capturing an anti-aircraft ZPU. 82nd Airborne White Devils-Black Hearts."

@@daisick7953 Dude, that's a counter-fire. The more you allow them to shoot, the lower your chances of doing anything (beside being an easy target) in that situation - and what's more important, getting alive. Shoots been fired - you expect that they will start to yell "Hey! Don't shoot, we can talk about this!"? Even police officers do the same thing.
That's not a quiet operation, where you're trying to be unseen as much as you can. By the formation (with the cammer being more ahead as a spike/bait) I guess that's just a patrol team, not an assault team. Once they have been attacked (especially with the RPG) chances of their successful retreat has lowered, so their only reasonable option here is to overtake the control and eliminate the danger. They have a big-ass vehicle behind there and not even try to hide their presence. They are in the open, they must find their closest safety ASAP and provide support/help to the other soldiers (like the spike/bait). Counter-fire gives them time and chance to do that and even allows to engage the area.
Beside, any fight is a 90% psychological and only 10% physical fight. The enemies they deal with barely gets scared of anything - they can rush at you with bombs attached to their body with no regret. Only power will speak to them - and by power I mean firepower. By the logic, they won't peak their heads out, when they hear multiple gunshots or bullets flying everywhere around them, just to catch one.

i want to join usmc 03 and fight on the frontlines for my country but just thinking “in any situation if you don’t kill your enemy first, you will be killed” just scares me the most. you have to contain absolute resolve for killing and stay focused and lack even a little your life will be taken. Was never in the military, but I’ve been in similar situations to that, it’s not fun for sure, I can only imagine how terrifying it would be to go up against real killers like terrorists from hundreds of meters away and not know what the fuck is going on

The Americans should never have gotten rid of the Vietnam war gunner trucks. each truck was bigger than an f250 and had up to 4 machine guns on the back with 4 gunners. usually these gunner trucks would protect troop carrier and tank convoys. They stoped most rpg attacks that occured during their watch. They were effective at helping the troops because the RPGs would attack them instead of the troop carriers or tanks.
I agree my uncle was on these “gun trucks” as they called them. We’re hit several times by RPGs. He always told me that the mines did much more damage. The top gunner could lay fire while the incoming fire is assed. The doors had slots you’d slide your rifle or shotgun through. On one occasion he told me he was so overwhelmed he emptied his M14 through the slit and reached for the trucks shotgun while trying to see where the enemy was.
Newer armored vehicles handle explosives better

Well he’s not alone so, stick your head out if you want to think he is reloading.
An effective ambush would have required an IED to be placed near the compound so that when the occupying forces are ambushed and attempt to push to the only available cover, the compound, you will have them in your trap. This was an excellent setup with no follow through.
You're never supposed to initiate an ambush with shoulder fired rockets, open bolt small arms or grenade launchers.

If it was just one person, firing the RPG may have been better than pot shots with an AK as it would be a bigger threat and perhaps give the enemy a greater impetus to get into the cover of the compound than a few AK pot shots where they may just hit a berm.

@@PhilsMyFriend Where the hell did you hear that? Almost every ambush is initiated with an RPG nowadays pretty much wherever you're fighting in the world. It's a very effective shock and awe effect and can really do some damage before the enemy even knows your position.

I was deployed in Afghanistan and worked with the Afghanistan border patrol. As much as we trained them they were useless. I knew once we left the taliban would take over. You can't call this an ambush. The noise that they claim is an RPG happened AFTER the guy yells, "We're gonna hit it on the left side." So they had already decided to assault this home. Also, all of the fire that we see in the video is coming from BEHIND the camera man.
