French Foreign Legion & Army In Heavy Combat With Taliban In Afghanistan

- Video footage from the War in Afghanistan shows fighters of the French Legion and army in heavy combat with Taliban in Afghanistan.
The scenes show the elite units of the French Foregin Legion & army in several intense firefights and engagements with Taliban fighters.
The French Foreign Legion (Légion étrangère) is a military branch of the French Army.
Legionnaires are considered highly trained elite infantry soldiers.
What makes the Legion unique is that it is open to foreign recruits willing to serve in the French Armed Forces. French citizenship may be applied for after three years' service.
After joining the French Foregin Legion every recruit will recive a new name and nationality by the Legion. The selection process is notoriously harsh, and only one in nine candidates will be allowed to serve in the French Foregin Legion.
Consequently, training is often described as not only physically challenging, but also very stressful psychologically.
Applicants must be between 17 and 40 years old.
They must be foreign, though this rule is often glossed over. About 16 percent are French nationals who join posing as citizens of other French-speaking countries, such as Belgium or Canada.
The world’s most cosmopolitan military force comprises soldiers from about 140 countries. Recruits tend to come in waves - Germans in the 1940s and ’50s and English-speakers in the 1980s. After the Cold War ended, many volunteers came from Russia and Eastern Europe. They have now been replaced by a surge of applicants from Latin American and Asian nations such as Nepal.
Unlike France’s regular armed forces, the Foreign Legion is a male-only unit. And during the first five years of service, a legionnaire is banned from marrying.

The Foreign Legion is the only unit of the French Army open to people of any nationality.
Most legionnaires still come from European countries but a growing percentage comes from Latin America.

Many Poles fight in The Foreign Legion, i know 9 of them.
They are not paid very much and most of em barely speak French. Pretty close to being a militia.
Are they mixing the nationalities of the soldiers, or divided into platoons based on nationality?
I think it would be interesting to see if they mixed everyone up and had a language barrier during combat. 😅

The bullpup design is terrible when it comes to rapid mag changes. The full-auto option is really a giant waste of brass when put in the hands of an infantryman who has to hump his ammo load. 1 shot, 1 kill. Not 30 rounds, 1 kill. This is one of the many reasons the French followed in the footsteps of many other allied nations and ditched the FAMAS in 2016 for a variant of the HK416 which is a far superior AR-style platform.

The FAMAS uses a delayed blowback operating system that functions best with French-specified steel-casing 5.56×45mm ammunition. Using standard brass-casing 5.56×45mm NATO ammunition employed by other armies can create over-pressure and case ruptures in the FAMAS during extraction, which can lead to severe malfunction....
Problem is that the production of ammunition in france stopped in 1999... so the french army runs with NATO ammo.
We bought from USA Germany Italia Brasil Swiss etc etc all to favorise international trading that's why the famas malfunction alot.
We lost our own weapon / ammo production in the name of globalism, that's fucked up if you ask me.
Is that why the one guy had to chamber a new round over and over?
@@grassshadow1 yeah + the famas stopped being produced in 1992 so all the model are just old ,only maintenance keep the guns running. somewhat . that's why we're making the switch to hk 416
And the biggest downside, except for ammo, is that bulpup design when it comes to reloading. It's harder then standard rifles to reload faster and it looks like mags sometimes get stuck to west.
Yes, we are loosing the production of our weapons
@@fritefrie That's what they did to Serbia after all. That's why our military is still fucked up. We had to destroy almost everything and military industry has been stoped. Luckily now we have different people leading country and military is growing slowly. But decade of destroying it needs at least twice that time to make it good again. I see that's what's happening with France too, just without any war in there ...

@@MarkT-ci6cr French people are one of the most patriotic people inside, outside they do seem like bitches.
@@MarkT-ci6cr ok true. Well I see it both ways - I think it’s a sign of a highly developed society to be self-critical for important sectors like the military, to ensure that the moral use of modern forces is fair. But when that self criticism turns into a detracting aspect that has affected every NATO army, I do agree that people realize that it takes the insurance of a modern military like France’s to ensure that this highly developed society of self criticism can even exist in the first place. That's not a Africa. They can only fight against African. How was the surprise for USA and Europe in afghanistan. They just waste ammo
