Thank you for this. My outer bearing ring actually broke in the case so I couldn't separate with a bearing separator. Couldn't get behind bearing without beveled edge of outer ring. Had to do this exact procedure to get it off (just the small center section). However, if bearing is still good and intact, should always use a bearing separator tool. Makes life way easier. Either way, good vid if you're in a jam like I was.

Skip a step and grind a couple notches in the outer race and pull from there.

Why not just pull from behind it once bearings and cage is off

I did try that but my puller jaws were to thick.

The bearings are not supposed to remain in the case halves. They are an interference fit on the crankshaft and shouldn't slide right off. They make a tool for removing bearings from the crankshaft. Its called a "bearing removal tool". Things get along quite easily when the correct tools are used with a bit of knowledge. Who wouldve thought?? 👌

Always at least one know it all. I make these videos to pass on any knowledge I have to help that Guy with zero knowledge and not all the proper tools. I never claim my way is the right way or only way. Try adding a comment like " hey they have this style bearing removal tool that makes the process easier this guys way will work but go to harbor freight and get this style and it will make your life easier ". Share knowledge don't be a wise ass.

@@AdamzGarage I'm a smart wise ass and obviously I do share my knowledge. I let your viewer's know the correct way of removing a crankshaft and the bearings. I didn't pretend to know what I was doing and show someone the incorrect way of doing it so that they stand the chance of ruining their cases or the crankshaft. It isn't my fault that you done that and I'm sure you wouldn't have reimbursed them for the purchase of new parts which were damaged due to someone on YT playing mechanic and giving incorrect information. If I wanted to teach someone something I'd at least know how to do it myself beforehand. I'm a motorcycle technician by trade. I'm 54 yrs old and I've been doing it most of my life. Spreading bad information for a like isn't what I do. If you want to get mad because I corrected you, that's on you.

Understanding how he improvised is useful. I’ve developed my mechanical skills by watching resourceful procedures like this, and creating my own. It adds to the mental tool box, and may be helpful in some other future challenge. Yes, having all the perfect tools and knowing how to use them is best. But that’s just not everyone’s situation.
