- In a day of replace instead of repair, I decided to give a shot at the art of rebuilding single cylinder 2 stroke crankshafts. I filmed this video a while ago and never got around to actually posting any of it. I hope you found the process of rebuilding this YZ125 crankshaft entertaining!
I’ve never seen crank truing before. It really is an art. Enjoyed the video man 🤙
awesome, i'm gonna do it myself, since over at crankworks az they completely screwed me on my crankshaft service, pressed the wrong one together and just sent it back. i would never ever do busy with them, ever.
Good setup! Did you make that truing stand? Where did you get that set of dial indicators? I’m looking to do similar for my builds. Do you ever weld or stake the pin after?
you can make one easily out of a wheel truing stand. The Tusk one has uprights that you have to bolt down so what I did was drill a set of holes so I could move one upright close enough to hold a crank.
Do you offer this as a service? If so, where are you located?
Why in the end the comparator is no longer placed at the ends, but rather at the location of the bearings.
How many tons of pressure is your hydraulic press going at on the crank webbing?
Are you measuring shaft roundness at 3:50? Cant get runout just above bearings.
KTM makes a tool that holds the crank halves in alignment while you press them. Works really well
I haven't seen anybody do that, since I did them, back in the day, when my buddy seized-up his Suzuki RM 125, at full speed. The Rod was fused to the Crank, it
took a lot of pressure, in the press to get it apart, but I got it back together, less than .001, and it ran great. Now I'm looking to do my 1988 CR500 crank, that's been sitting around for years. Plus it helps when you worked in a machine shop your whole life.
where can i get a kit for indian minarelli p4 70cc rod
The visuals in this video are excellent. However, I don't understand the need to add a musical soundtrack. If I wanted to listen to music, I would go find music videos that I enjoy. Other than that, the refurbishing job on the crank is spot on.
Seriously, do you have any technical background like mechanic schooling? Your skill set and knowledge in the shop is so impressive 👍
No schooling or anything. Just me figuring stuff out through experience and research.
He has a press
I need my 1995 yz125 crank rebuilt. I need the connecting rod replaced and the crank balanced. Please help. I’ll pay for shipping.
Hi I’m rebuilding a yz250, I replaced the bearings along with the bearing cap/seals and the crank as well. When I went to put the casing back together, it didn’t want to fully seet down. I ended up getting it about a quarter inch away from being fully flush but it won’t go the rest of the way down. When i tried putting a few screws in the block and lightly torquing them down to see if it would help, it caused the crank to freeze up and also made no difference in the gap in the block. Any ideas?
(If parts were included) would you rebuild my 2011 yz125 crank if I sent it to you? I’m located in Oklahoma. Anyways nice video
Really it’s that easy and I have been sitting buying new cranks I’m about to save a lot of money
I see that you are very good at your job, have you ever seen the HOT RODS brand, do you know if it is good?
Is that a steel press plate, or aluminum?
What thickness steel plate did you use
Hi, i have a cuestion, it is posible to fit a crankshaft from 90's or earlys 2000 on my 1987 125cc two stroke??? My cuestion is because i cant find any crankshaft for my YZ 😑
You'll have to get measurements of each.
So what keeps the cranks trued after hitting with the hammer? They just stay in place?
The lower rod pin is REALLY tight. Normally you can't get a side to budge by holding it, you have to keep one side against a hard/stable surface.
So to true it, you just hit it with a brass hammer? You should show how you built that truing stand
Start with a Tusk Wheel Truing stand, drill 2 holes on the base and bolt down one of the uprights in the new holes so that the uprights are close enough together to hold a crank
Damn boy got skills
how did you balance it
Where did you get that stand? I want one!
I made it out of a castor fork
@@akmoto_ I'd love to see more of it, can you send me some pictures or do a video on it?
@@JRBean What I did was start with a Tusk Wheel Truing stand, drill 2 holes on the base and bolt down one of the uprights in the new holes so that the uprights are close enough together to hold a crank
@@therawlifefamily I was just looking at those yesterday, need to build a set of wheels sounds like a good excuse to pick one up. Thanks for the idea!
crank is bent
That was pretty dope never seen videos on crank rebuilds
Same question below, did you build your own truing stand? Can you please share what you use to build this?

3:50 😊
Yo that’s satisfying af😂
Shot out
How much does one cost
That was so satisfying
Pourquoi a la fin le comparateur n'est plus placé tout au bout du cône ? Plutôt que en face du roulement.
Bien vu, je me suis fait la même remarque ! A cet endroit la lecture sera d'office toujours à 0 !
Very impressive
Awesome video. You are very talented
thats impressed asf
Nicely done
Learned alot nice work
You do rebuild for them I’ll pay you😅
Awesome video!!!
your trueing stand idea,,,, if the pins that go through the bearing bores are not slightly larger than the bore the bearings will not be concentric and cause inaccurate reading ,,,, better to use cheap off shore vee blocks
An easy way to check this is to take a known good crank and see what your runout is.
